Mrs. Husky, Denver Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off Engagement Date: August 14, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Rancho San Carlos About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
About Mrs. Husky

Tone-Deaf (Or Dumb)

August 12th, 2010 @ 1:30 pm by Mrs. Husky

My goal has not been to lose weight for the wedding; generally, I’m happy with my size. Add to that our marathon-training regimen, and I’m not too worried about gaining. But I still want to look good in my dress.

Right now, I’m what you might call skinny-soft. I’m thin, but with little muscular definition anywhere except my legs—which will be hidden beneath the dress. My arms will be exposed, and the dress is very fitted, so arms and abs are really where I want the definition. In short? I want Jennifer Aniston arms:

Is that really so much to ask? So here’s my plan A:

Try to do more activities that I already enjoy (what I like to call “non-exercise” exercise) that will help to tone my muscles. For arms, this will be more bouldering, volleyball, and gardening (pulling weeds, turning soil, etc.). For core-firming, this means more slacklining and posture awareness.

And of course I have a plan B:

Workout videos! Surely to the amusement of Mr. Husky… if my arms and abs aren’t where I want them by mid-August, then I think I’ll be checking out one of these:

I hear this one’s good - and it fits within my timeframe! We also have Netflix Instant, so thanks to Miss Octopus, I might be checking out one of these:

(source)

Tone-Deaf (Or Dumb) : wedding denver fitness 4 4

(source)

Tone-Deaf (Or Dumb) : wedding denver fitness 5 5

Has anyone tried one of these videos? Are they worth anything? Do you have any other videos, or “non-exercise” exercise recommendations?

I am working on trying the shred too….I hear it’s a buttkicker….I was doing really well when I was training for a race, but as soon as it was done I got lazy and slacked with the running…my motivation needs to be adding another race I am hoping to complete a 10k which is a big deal for non runner me!

I’m in the same boat. My honey grabs the back of my arms and it makes me feel blah. I wanna tone up before my wedding too. Please do another post and let us know what worked best for you!

I hear you. My arms weren’t big, but they were soft/flabby with zero muscle definition and my dress is strapless. I started some pilates DVD’s 3-4 weeks ago, followed by Jackie Warner’s One-on-One DVD (I just do the arms segment), and I already see a difference. It’s an awesome arm workout, and takes less than 30 mins. I do low weights (because there are a lot of reps) and I am getting more and more toned everyday, with minimal effort. By the time my wedding gets here in a few weeks, I think I will be pleased with my results. (I already am!) Definitely check it out! :)

I highly recommend Denise Austin Target Toners. Each workout is only 5 minutes but they really work you out! I did these work outs for my arms and they toned up A LOT. I noticed a difference very quickly! Also, pilates will do wonders for your arms!

I started the shred and really like it. It’s a quick total body tone that doesn’t require a big time commitment. So far good results. You can download it from amazon to your pc for less than buying the dvd’s. Then you just watch it on your computer or hook your laptop to the tv.

I used the shred to tone up for our wedding. I saw the biggest difference in my arms, and tummy. It was a great little workout.

I liked the 30 Day Shred, but for my arms, I spent more and more time at the rock-climbing gym. Honestly, I think that did more for my upper body muscle definition than the Shred. You mentioned bouldering, so I’m sure you’ve seen climbers’ arms and backs - amazing! Plus it’s fun. :)

I really wanted to make sure my arms and back were good so I did the arms/back work out in the p90x dvd’s…did that twice a week and made sure to drink protein shakes after to help in the recovery process…did this for 3 months and I was very happy with the way my arms and back looked.

Check out PureBarre.com, their dvds (and classes if you live near a studio) are the BEST muscle toning workouts I’ve ever done. Hands down. I’ve done the GM Shred, and it’s not even close to the toning I got from the Pure Barre dvds.

This is encouraging- I’m on day 2 of the Shred. Jillian is kicking my butt!! I just got it this past week at Target- it was on sale for less than $9.00.

I have the Julian Michaels’ one! You will be sweating buckets when you’re doing it!! A good ab one is the Self Abs video. There are four different segments you do, I think it lasts about 20 minutes. I used to do it everyday and had a flat stomach with slight definition (I probably would have had more if I did more cardio, but sounds like you won’t have a problem with that!). Hope it helps!

My neighbor has incredible arms - she jogs to a stadium close to our house and runs the stairs. At the top of each set she does 10 sit-ups; at the bottom, 10 push-ups. She rocks - and I’m planning to steal her workout and get started this weekend!
