The Hermit Crabs Take NYC

August 12th, 2010 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Hermit Crab

Or, our last minute engagement photo session!

One of the difficult parts of planning a wedding in NYC from Syracuse was scheduling. We had at first suggested doing wintery e-pics, but our photographer was worried that we wouldn’t get great shots in the cold, and the weather being iffy. Next, we scheduled for April. Wouldn’t you know, Mr. HC went to Italy and got stuck there due to the volcanos (!!) and we had to reschedule. I really wanted to work with our photographer before the wedding so we scheduled them for the Wednesday a week and a half before the wedding.

Tuesday night, we met some friends at the Mets game. About halfway through the game, I started feeling really achy, and had trouble standing. The subway ride home was miserable for me.

I woke up Wednesday morning feeling a little bit like I had been run over by a bus. This was, of course, the day we planned to get our marriage license and take e-pics. Not knowing when I was going to feel better, I said we should go on with our day as planned. (This turned out to be a good idea because I had strep throat and was about to worse before I got better!) We headed out early to get the marriage license (in and out 20 minutes!), although Mr. HC asked me why I looked so miserable—wasn’t I excited? I told him of course I was, I just couldn’t show it!

Then we took our e-photos. While I do like many of them, I can tell in some just how terrible I was feeling - I hadn’t had the energy to do my hair, I had totally forgotten about a manicure, and there are so many pictures where I can just tell I’m struggling to smile! In any case, here are some of the good ones (and you should be forewarned, there are some kissy pics!).

You would not usually find me sitting on Mr. HC’s lap - can you tell it was a leeetle bit awkward?

I am pretty sure he is telling me it will be okay, and I have just told him, oh my gosh I feel like I am going to pass out.

I got caught sitting in between shots because I was so achy. We went with it.

And then the Brooklyn Bridge. I was so done by this point, I could barely walk, let alone pose, but I am happy that we got these.

Even though I was feeling terrible, I am happy that we did these - we definitely walked away with a couple great keepers, and I was very happy to meet Joel before the wedding so we knew what to expect.

Just in case you’re wondering, I went home, changed into PJs, and slept on the couch all afternoon. I took it easy through the weekend, eventually went to urgent care for some antibiotics and finally started feeling better by the following Wednesday. Don’t get sick the week before the wedding, my friends. It is not fun. That being said, all’s well that end’s well, and I was feeling great by the time the wedding weekend fun began!

How did your engagement pictures come out? What are your tips for taking care of yourself before the wedding? And please, take care of yourself before the wedding!

They’re cute! And you really can’t tell you’re sick at all, and it’ll be a fun story to tell your grandkids in 60 years. (That’s the litmus test of everything, really.)

Our wedding is already next Saturday! I have a friend who came to my house last week and saw the table numbers and wants to hijack them for her future wedding, so they’ve already got plans for a new home after us. :)

I can totally sympathize . . . it took 3 months to figure out a date to take our engagement pics with our photographer. Then the week before I started to feel sick and shrugged it off as a cold. The morning we were supposed to take our e-pics I ended up at the doctor with a fever, sinus infection and possibly the beginning of strep throat. I slept that afternoon and was able to get ready for our pics but by the end I was starting to feel bad again and I can tell that I just wasn’t as into it.

You poor thing! What a bummer to get sick so soon before the wedding. For what it’s worth, I think you pulled it off well - you look happy, in love, and not on the verge of passing out!

The best is kissing + the bridge! Good job hanging in there, you’re a trooper and if you hadn’t said anything I wouldnt’ have been able to tell.

Aww that stinks but hey, at least you were a trooper! I went into our e-pics session with my hair done & new clothes but kind of with the attitude that this was the only thing we could do so early (we got them done in Oct 2009 when our wedding wouldn’t be until July 2011) but overall I am happy with them!

Wow, you look absolutely gorgeous! I can’t really tell you are sick, you still look just glowing in some of the pics! Very happy bride. It’s a shame you felt so crappy. I guess it will be a story for the kids, eh?

Your guys’ coordinating glasses are sooo adorable btw. :)
