This past weekend I had my first hair trial with stylist Zhallena, and it was awesome! I found her via a Craigslist post I had set up searching for an affordable stylist in the area. (With budget cuts looming, I didn’t want to spend tons of money for a one day ‘do.)

When I first met Zhallena a couple of weeks ago, I had gone in thinking I wanted a half-up, half-down ‘do, but after skimming through a People magazine featuring Carrie Underwood’s wedding while I waited, I began to change my mind. [(Unfortunately, I think People must have rights to the photos because I haven’t been able to find any non-People related images of Mrs. Carrie’s gorgeous, big, romantic hair. If you haven’t seen the photos and want to check out her hair, you can find the story over here. (I didn’t want to post these photos because it didn’t seem legit).]
When we met for our trial, I wasn’t 100% sure of what I wanted, and I still had images of half-up ‘dos in my head. Despite my uncertainty, Zhallena went to work and curled her little heart out. It may not look like it, but this Locket has A LOT of hair!

First we tried the half-up ‘do, and it did nothing for me, I disliked it enough that I don’t even want to show you. So we decided on something with more pizazz: a look inspired by Carrie’s wedding ‘do. Big, curly, pretty, and romantic with some loose, falling curls. Zhallena had to use her imagination a bit because we didn’t have the magazine at our disposal, but I think she did a great job.

And just for fun, when I got home we took a few shots with my possible borrowed veil. (Thanks, Mrs. Cola!)

We plan on having another trial run where we act like it’s the real day, and Zhallena is going to do her best to pin, spray, and secure my hair so it holds up. Since she had never worked with my hair before, she had not taken into account the weight and thickness and wasn’t fully prepared. Also, because it was a trial run and we played with different styles, the tugging and pulling caused the curls to fall out by the time we got to the final look. Overall, I consider it a success and can’t wait for the next go!
What do you think? How did your hair trial go? Did you end up going in a different direction than you had initially envisioned?
