Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.

Kiwi brides will recognize the guys in the above pic. Meet New Zealand’s pride and joy: our All Blacks rugby team, one of the most recognized symbols of our country. In my family supporting these guys is deadly serious. We are so passionate about the All Blacks that we would go through hell and high water to watch their games (the one and only reason we had satellite TV in Indonesia). Once we were so loud in expressing our enthusiasm that a concerned neighbour dropped by, thinking that there was a domestic dispute at our house. Nope. The All Blacks were just thrashing the South African Springboks silly. Very satisfying.

What has this got to do with our wedding and marriage?

Well, Mr E knows all about my family’s love for this game and this team. I have slowly been “educating” him (i.e. brainwashing) about the merits of the All Blacks. Part and parcel of marrying me is becoming an ardent All Blacks supporter. Good thing Mr E has no complaints about that! (Sorry, but the USA rugby team is pretty low ranked so there wasn’t much competition for his attention.)

As a symbol of his new allegiance I went out and bought four pairs of All Blacks socks for him and the groomsmen to wear on the wedding day. They look kinda like this:

Mwahahaha… I have dragged him to the dark side! Don’t worry, this deal isn’t all one-sided. Apparently after marriage I will be supporting the Oakland Raiders in football (whose colours, incidentally, correspond to the All Blacks’ ones. Cool).

Before I go, I cant resist posting a pic of the All Blacks in action defeating some poor Aussies. All in a day’s work. Yes, I am obsessed.

Anyone else incorporating a bit of your favourite team (for whatever sport) in your wedding day? Ooh, and hands up for any other All Blacks fans out there!

Ahh! LOVE the Haka. I dated a Kiwi for a while so I learned to love rugby, too. I totally understand your passion. Go the All Blacks!

hahhahaha, accidently hit enter!

we are HUGE florida gator fans. we met on campus, got engaged on campus and will get married on campus.

our colors are the team colors (but with a less vivid orange) and we are definitely finding little ways to incorporate the school/team into our whole day.

DH is a major rugby supporter - specifically Leinster and Ireland although he would gladly watch the All Blacks, Springboks, etc… all weekend. One of the recent rugby highlights here in Ireland was when the All Blacks came to play Munster - there are some NZ natives on the Munster squad and after the All Blacks Haka the Munster players from NZ did a haka too - it. was. awesome.

For our bridal party entrance song we used Chelsea Dagger by the Fratellis - it’s the song played at Leinster matches when they score.

I’m a HUGE sports fan - my whole family is really into the New York Yankees and the New York Jets (which I’d imagine is like being into New Zealand for rugby and Australia for soccer). My fiance is not nearly so into baseball as me, but he did grow up a Yankees fan, so mostly I’m working on raising his enthusiasm so he watches the games with me rather than making me change the channel.

Football, though, is a problem. He grew up in NY but didn’t start liking football until college, when he was in Boston. So he roots for the rival Patriots. I’ve told him he’s a bandwagon-jumper and is rooting for the wrong team - after all I’ve been a football fan longer than him, but he won’t cross over. I am making green one of our wedding colors, though. Partly because it’s my favorite color and the color of my engagement ring, but MOSTLY because it’s a JETS color. I kind of want to have navy blue be our other color, for the Yankees, but I’m not sure they match.

We will be playing the Michigan Fight Song later in the evening. My fiance took a pass on his school’s fight song, he is not into “American sports” as he calls them. I guess it’s fair. Also, Go Blue!

Go AB’s! Great game this weekend thrashing the Aussies! American girl (hailing from Oakland, CA) married to a Kiwi boy from Taranaki. It was pretty much mandatory that I become an AB’s fan which wasn’t hard considering how hot many of them are and what an exciting sport it is. Was awesome to open up WB and see this post today.

Also and American girl marrying an All Blacks supporting Kiwi from Gisborne. I wouldn’t dream of supporting any other rugby team! I personally have no interest in sports, but watching a game that gets him so excited makes it that much more fun for me. :)

My FH is a HUGE Red Sox fan… I will be wearing a Red Sox garter and incorporating the Red Sox in where I can. Although our colors are Horizon (Royal) Blue and Silver. :)

It’s no mistake our wedding weekend is a New England Patriot’s bye week ;) I’m marrying a New Yorker though, and there’s too much New York-Boston sports angst, so we’re leaving sports representation out of the wedding lol

Love love love seeing kiwi content on your blog posts and I think it’s a super cute idea that the groomsmen are wearing all blacks socks… I’ve just realised that the last wedding I was in, the wedding colours were red, white and black and the groom was a Counties fan… coincidence?

I wish I could figure out how to incorporate Mr. G’s love of the football (he supports Arsenal) and my die-hard love for the Los Angeles Dodgers!

I’m giving my fiance a rugby groom’s cake with his college team mascot/colors on it! I’m just hoping they don’t wear their rugby shorts to the rehearsal…okay I’m kinda hoping they do wear them ;-)

Yes, us Aussies have not been going so well lately!!!
We agree on our Super 14 team - Waratahs!! But we arent as passionate about our Rugby League team - he supports the Cronulla Sharks and I support the Manly SeaEagles!
Love the socks!!!

Part and parcel of marrying my fella meant becoming a Collingwood supporter… growing up our family didn’t follow AFL (or any other sport for that matter!) so I had to learn the whole freakin’ game! The fella’s great grandfather played for Collingwood, so his WHOLE family is into it so I figured I’d better get on board! Luckily it turns out it’s way fun to follow a team!
