About Mrs. Plaid

Sniff Sniff

August 14th, 2010 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Plaid

I’ve been DIY-ing my butt off lately. (Well not literally. I want my sizable ass to say sizable, thank you very much. Haha!) Anyway, wanna see my most recent project??? Do ya?? Do ya??

Little “Tears of Joy” tissue packets!

Aren’t they adorable? I love how they turned out. And they were relatively easy. Lots of steps (which I will momentarily be sharing with you), but easy nonetheless. So without further ado, I present you the steps for making these cute tissue packets.

1. Measure the tissue. Then, using the ruler, figure out your envelope flaps. (This part probably took the longest. Lots of trials before I got it right.)

2. Once you get the envelope drawn out, use a copier to copy the design onto sheets of vellum paper.

3. Now the fun part. Cutting all of the envelopes out. Uggh…enter callus on scissor finger. Oh yeah, and one very large paper cut. :(

4. OK, now fold all flaps over and crease. I tried using the creaser that came on my paper cutter, but the paper was too thin and it actually cut through the vellum. So I just creased them all by hand.

5. Bear with me, we’re almost done. Now you’re going to stuff the envelope with the tissue, then glue the side flaps together, and then glue the bottom flap to the sides.

6. Last, you’re going to print out circle labels. (I got some Post-It brand labels from Office Max. Bonus: the labels are removable, so guests won’t have to rip the envelope or sticker to get the tissue out!) I typed “For Your Tears of Joy” on mine.

I’m not done with these yet. These little envelopes are not going to stand alone. They’re part of a bigger project. Y’all will just have to wait to see what’s to come.

What little DIY projects are you proud of? Are any of y’all providing your guests with tissues for the ceremony?

***PS…Mama Plaid has already requested several of these, as she will be bawling her eyes out on my wedding day. :)

I think it’s strange to assume (and place the expectation) that all your guests will cry at your wedding. I find these little packages kind of awkward, actually.

Those are so awesome. I’ve been having a hard time finding the glassin evelopes, so having a how to on making them is fabulous. My family is full of criers. . .so these are a must.

@Guest: I’m actually not assuming or expecting anyone to cry at my wedding. I’m not even a big crier. But again, I thought they were cute and on occasion people do in fact cry at weddings. If they do, there will be a tissue at the ready. They’re cute. I don’t think they shout, “Cry, dammit!” You don’t have to have them at your wedding.

@SuperBrook: Thanks! My family is also full of criers so I know they’ll appreciate them. And those that don’t cry can just ignore them! Glad I could help. :)

I don’t know how many people will cry at my wedding, but I will probably cry enough for everyone! I’m making these, too… partly because they are just so darn cute and partly because I’ll probably need to borrow them from some of the guests! As DIY-ers, sometimes we just can’t resist the urge to do something because it’s adorable!

I think these are super cute whether or not people cry! It’s the kind of nice little gesture that I would think “aww” when I saw it & would want to keep as a favor!

I actually think this is a great idea. Not only do people cry at weddings, your guests can use them for other stuff like spills or if they get something on their hands. In Japan, advertisers pass out tissue packets like candy and I can’t get enough of ‘em. Thanks for the how-to!

i got my envelopes on e bay from a guy in canada. i ordered them on a wednesday night and had them by saturday morning! i paid 6 bucks for 100 envelopes, 2 bucks for all the tissue and then like 5 bucks for the ribbon. we are putting ours in baskets at the start of the aisle so the cryers can grab what they need on the way in. i already know who all is going to cry lol

I think these are a great idea, but let’s face it, a lot of people cry at weddings.

You are the DIY queen! I swear every time I open weddingbee, you have a new tutorial up. Love it! And I also love the tears of joy packets - I think they’re adorable, and completely useful. If my mom and sister will cry when they see me in my dress, it’s reasonable to expect it will happen again. :)

Too cute!! And if I didn’t use up all of my tissues, they’d certainly go into my purse for those occasions I do need a tissue, and then I’d be reminded of how wonderful your wedding was!! It’s perfect!

They look very cute! We could have used these at our ceremony–after it was over, all our guests kept saying how there was not a dry eye in the house (probably because Mr PC and I had the water works going).

I think these are ultra cute too! I’m going 1 step easier and buying glassine envelopes! After cutting 150 envelope liner with scissors I do not believe I can take anymore cutting :)

can’t wait to see the overall project
…..waiting
