Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

The Save the Dates Are in the States : wedding guam save the dates stationery Stds stds

With our monogram complete, it was time to start putting together our save the dates. I knew I was going to spend a pretty penny on our invitations, so I wanted to make the STDs myself. Postcards are sooo IN these days! I created all my graphics on my MacBook using iWorks 09 Pages.

As you can see, I just printed the monogram on the front of the cardstock and the following on the back:

I have been known to get carried away with fonts. There are just so many beautiful free fonts available! I decided to stick with Snell Roundhand for our names, Baskerville (italic) for the date and location, and Champignon for sentences. I stretched out the fonts to fit by using the “character” slide, located in the Inspector.

They were printed on the heaviest cardstock the printer had at the time (hey, I live on Guam, I have to take what I can get), which was not as thick as I had hoped for. Actually, they were a bit flimsy, but I kept reminding myself that my invitations were going to be really pretty. Anyway, they were also given a UV coating to keep the ink from running/fading/smearing. I highly recommend this; the gloss effect was a nice touch.

What I forgot to account for was my stamp. I didn’t realize when I ordered them from Stamps.com that they would be so big! Wait until you affix your stamp to address the cards!!! I had to scrap about 60 cards and re-do them because the stamp covered the names of my guests.

I sent those babies out in the mail and am happy that they are stuck on refrigerators across the country!

How do you feel about postcards vs. magnets?

Very cool! We did magnets for our save the dates, but will be using the postcard idea for the RSVPs for the invites.

Cute postcards! I prefer postcards now just because I don’t have any more room on my fridge. LOL I don’t want to get rid of any. You could always make your thank you card as magnet. That’s something different.

We went with magnets because we are sending them out *almost* a year in advance.. although I do like the postcard & think we’ll do that for the RSVP’s like llc2011 said!

We didn’t waste too much time on our STDs because we figured we’d just make our invites pretty too. Actually you can see Our STD post 2 down from this one! We had some bumps in the road too. The stamps look really great on yours and the monogram turned out really pretty!

I like the idea of a postcard and thought about if we should use them for our STDs or RSVPs, in the end we went with magnets for our STD’s but your postcards are great!!

Awesome job Miss Barrettes! I used to live in the Bay Area and frequented V. Sattui often - it is my absolute favorite winery in Napa! Congratulations!

I printed post card save the dates for my wedding too. I’m curious how you did the UV coating… DIY or did you go to a printer?

Also, I mailed one to myself to see what it would look like after a trip through the mail. It arrived with a barcode printed on the bottom and a blurry stamp printed across the top. Does anyone know if this is standard, or if I went to the post office they could stamp it without the barcode, etc? It seems to have ruined the look of the postcards. help!!

@Mrs. Turtle: Hi name twin!

@merlr: Good foresight in sending one to yourself! I missed that. Don’t think you can argue with the post office it’s in the system.
