Too Bad People are Slobs…

August 15th, 2010 @ 11:40 am by Mrs. Knitting

I’ve had a big disappointment. I’m quite sad. It turns out my venue is not on board with DIY cupcakes because they suspect people who have been drinking + icing + exciting toppings = big mess for them. It probably would have been a good idea for me to have checked that before getting all excited.

The new plan is my sister will just make and decorate the cupcakes herself and our (apparently drunk and slobby) guests will just have to manage to not toss them around the room.

I’m still a bit sad at not being able to go the DIY cupcake bar route, but either way I’ll get to eat yummy cupcakes, so it’s all good. I suspect that DIY cupcakes will show up at a lot of my future parties.

Anyway, since there will still be cupcakes, we still need to do cupcake trials. Yay! More sugar for me. For our most recent cupcake trial my little sister made a batch of maple cupcakes with sugared walnuts. They were highly delicious and will definitely be included in the dessert table.

Here’s a bit of food porn for you. We experimented with two different maple icing recipes and my sister, my mama, Mr. K, and myself all agreed that the whiter icing is the one we will be going with:

Mr. Knitting enjoying one of the tasty treats (If you speak Polish please ignore his t-shirt):

I have to say letting go of the DIY cupcake bar was pretty easy for me to do. Since I know my guests will be served these incredible cupcakes it’s hard to be too upset about the fact that they won’t get to assemble the cupcakes themselves. I also suspect my little sister is thrilled with this turn of events because it means she get complete creative control over what the cupcakes will look like. I’m not the only perfectionist in the family…

Have you gotten attached to an idea for your wedding before checking if it was doable?

I don’t speak Polish, but I speak some Czech so I understand what I can see of the shirt. What does the rest of it say?

We are going the cupcake route as well. While a cupcake bar would’ve been fun, cupcakes are just fun in general, right? We are going to be taste-testing cupcakes in October but ummm, I’m glad you are doing some research for me. Thanks K!

would your venue allow it if you had some helpers who created the cupcakes for the guests? so the guests can still picking their toppings, but someone is there to make it for them.

just a side note, maybe have your sister try piping on the icing? it’s an easy way to make the cupcakes look professional!

oh ya! there are tons of ideas I just love, that I’m not sure if our venue will allow!! But that’s pretty much what I have done my whole life-get excited about things before I know if they will become a reality!

Your sister’s creations look delicious! That’s lame that you couldn’t have your cupcake bar. Oh well…

@aimlesstraveler: It goes on to say 8 Piwo/Gleba. It’s not my favourite shirt.
@jcl: That would be a great compromise, but I suspect by that time of the night people aren’t going to feel like waiting in a slow line for food. That is a great suggestion though! As for the piping, I actually prefer a pretty homespun look.

@Miss Knitting: Haha, that’s about what I was expecting. Like the One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor t-shirts I’ve seen here. I think it’s funny, as long as it’s not worn to any inappropriate places.

I have a few different ideas I am thinking about but unsure if they will be okay’ed at the venue (I’m delaying asking because I don’t want to be told no!) I want a DIY sundae bar or fondue fountain an probably a few different things I can’t remember or haven’t come up with yet hehe

Sorry about the cupcakes - I think that the ones your sister makes will turn out great though! I love the way that white icing looks :)

Ugh–darn venue! Thumbs up for a cute idea thought, I’ve never heard of a DIY cupcake bar!

Sooo um— in my mind Baby Barrettes is being led down the aisle with the rings on his back. Haven’t told the venue about that yet. Just not gonna ask and do it and see how it goes…eep!

@jlp2w71611: DIY sundae bar would be amazing. Just saying.

Can you do it at the rehearsal dinner? We wanted an ice cream sundae bar at the wedding, but its too expensive for all of our guest. Its a lot cheaper at the rehearsal, so we’re just going to do it then!

Now I want to know what the shirt says! I guess I can google a Polish translation. But on another note, yay cupcakes! I think it will be great even without the DIY cupcake bar.
