Stylin’ and Profilin’

Hair and makeup! Who doesn’t love gettin’ all prettified? Especially when you get to follow it up with putting on a pretty white dress too!

Let’s start with my hair inspiration. I want a retro look. My dress channels a bit of the 1940s, so I want that to carry through with my ’do.

It’s a lot of waves and curls. How cute would it be if all my girls went with this theme, too?

OK, and again I want the retro theme to carry through to my makeup. Here are a couple inspiration photos.

It’s pretty much a dark eye and a bold lip. But do I go red or pink on the lips?

Where did you get your hair and makeup inspiration?

I did the 1940s retro look too. You should look up my recaps. What I learned about the make-up is that back then you either did heavy on the eyes or heavy on the lips but not both. So if you do the bright red lipstick then you want very natural subtle on the eyes. I used the picture of Faith Hill as Grace Kelly for my inspiration for hair and make-up. I went to the local Mac counter with picture in hand and had her do my make-up to look like the photo.

How I wish I could pull the red lip off! My lips are much to pouty and big for any bold colors, but I really love the look!

The reason red lipstick was so big in the first place was because it showed up so well on black and white photos/videos so well. Now, rarely ever is it used because it is so harsh on the camera (unless the pin up look is what you’re going for).

I think youd look great in either one! But I think a soft pink, perhaps even coral would be more flattering with your coloring and lovely eyes :)

I love the idea of doing vintage hair and makeup! You can’t possibly go wrong with classic red lips and a structured updo :) One thing that really helped me was looking up online makeup tutorials: I know that sounds odd, but it truly works (well, especially for me because I did my own makeup). One artist that was extremely helpful in my decision was named Marlena, and her website is http://www.makeupgeek.com, or you can youtube “Makeup Geek TV” and see some of her videos. She does all sorts of styles of makeup and it might expose you to some various styles of vintage makeup.
Please tell me you’re doing a birdcage veil?…It would look fabulous with this type of hair and makeup. :) Best wishes!

You and your girls are going to look amazing! I think I’m going to look into magazines & trust in whoever ends up doing my makeup!

For vintage eyes I was taught to do a very neutral (think skin tone, but smoother) eye shadow, with a very black eyeliner with a tiny wing at the edge. No lower liner and lots of mascara. And definitely red lips.
