The morning of our wedding, I woke up at 5:00 AM. True story. No matter that I had just fallen asleep around 1:00 AM after my late-night convo with Mr. French Fries, my eyes popped open and I looked at the clock. ‘OMG, MUST GET MORE SLEEP,’ was the first thought that ran through my head. But, as everyone knows, forcing yourself and stressing about getting more sleep is the fastest way to achieve… staying awake.
So, I laid in bed until around 7:00 AM, when I simply couldn’t lay there any longer! Remember that Disney commercial where the little boy says he’s too excited to sleep? Yup, that was me.
I jumped out of bed, anxious to get a look at the sky and a read on the weather. Was it raining? Were there tornadoes? Downed trees? A foot of snow? (You never know in Wisconsin…) I opened the blinds and was greeted with a bright blue cloudless sky. SUCCESS! Well, for now at least. Confident that the weather was cooperating for the time being, I grabbed the room service tray that I ordered night before and logged on the ‘Bee to browse around a bit.

Yes, I ate Raisin Bran the day of my wedding. Why? Because it’s my favorite breakfast cereal. No joke… I really am that much of a grandma. Eventually it was time to begin the getting ready process — my hair and makeup team was slotted to arrive at 10:00! I showered, blew dry my hair (yup, no 2nd day hair for this girl… my hair gets a mean case of the greasies if I don’t wash it every day) and took a deep breath. Soon, there was a knock on the door – my hair and makeup stylists had arrived and it was time to get pretty!

I had originally done two separate hair trials with my fabulous stylist Angie of BLovely: one with my hair curled and pulled back on the sides (as seen in our e-pics) and one where it was all pulled back and curled. I decided that between the two, I liked the half up/half down style the best. Except… heat/humidity/rain don’t really mix with my hair. The morning of the wedding it was around 80 degrees at 9 AM, and the forecast was for a high of around 90 degrees (and still, at this point, a 30% chance of rain despite the blue sky outside). Visions of limp curls danced in my head. I made a game time decision. I was switching up the plan for a 3rd time, and I wanted a low side ponytail. No matter that I hadn’t done a trial — I knew that Angie would work her magic and it would look great. Once she arrived, I told her about the new game plan, and she laughed (and probably thought I was a little bit nutty) but said that my hair was perfect for it and that it would work really well with the weather. Phew…hair decision made.
My bridesmaids started to arrive, and there was an excitement in the air. The girls were chatting, reading magazines, drinking blackberry Izze (my fave!) and eating lunch. What did I have for lunch that day? Well, I pulled a play out of Mrs. Pencils playbook, and got Chipotle! (There aren’t any pictures of me eating, thankfully.)

Catching up on their celebrity gossip.
When my turn arrived for hair and makeup, I sat back in the chair and Angie set to work.

I debated leaving my hair in pin-curls.
I hear they’re making a comeback.
Around this time, my awesome photographer Molly showed up and started getting detail shots and getting ready shots. Molly grabbed my gown and my accessories and headed to our hotel lobby to get a few glamour shots:

My lovely Cossette, in all her glory. Also, I found that hanger in the dollar section of our hardware store, and prettied it up to make it my own. $1.00, people.

My pearls, my ”grandma slippers”, and the J.Crew flip-flops I ended up wearing later in the day. What? Don’t judge. I told you already that I was a grandma. Besides, the slippers were really comfortable.
Back up in my bridal suite, Angie was getting my side-ponytail started, and as you can see… I was pretty stoked about wearing a banana clip in my hair.

I was seriously getting so excited about what was to come! Before I knew it, my hair and makeup were done. I checked out the final product, and we got my veil placed just so.

And with that, it was time to head to the church to get dressed and to get this show on the road!
Miss a chapter?
