Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.

My First Etsy Purchase

August 16th, 2010 @ 3:38 pm by Mrs. Knitting

Until very recently I was pretty scared of buying anything off the Internet. I basically thought if I bought anything off the Internet my identity would be immediately stolen, I’d have to pay exorbitant shipping fees, and whatever I bought would arrive in terrible condition. Anyway, after reading about everyone else in the universe having really positive experiences with Etsy, I figured I needed to see what I was missing.

I have now made my first Etsy purchase and I could not be more thrilled with it.

However, before I actually show you what it is Mr. Knitting needs to stop reading. This one is not for you. Go away please.

Okay, now that that’s taken care of I can tell you all about it. As you may recall, at our wedding I’ll be wearing a locket Mr. K gave me many years ago. Here’s a refresher picture:

What you don’t know is that my dress has a pretty low back (no, I haven’t show it to you yet) and that I am a huge fan of back jewellery. I’ve loved back jewelry ever since I saw those Nicole Kidman Chanel No.5 ads a number of years ago, but I’ve never actually owned any.

My inspiration:

That’s where Etsy came in. Here’s what I ordered from Cathy5591.

It’s called a Graduated Rhinestone Ball Backdrop Add-On (try saying that 10 times fast!) and it’s basically a strand of a necklace that I can attach to the clasp of my locket. I tried it on with my dress and my locket and it’s kind of perfect. I love it a ridiculous amount and now want to buy a huge amount of backless dresses so I can wear back jewellery all the time.

Oh, and in case I’m not the only one who’s still a bit scared on Internet shopping, I can report that so far my identity has not been stolen, shipping charges were reasonable, and my back necklace arrived in perfect condition!

How has Etsy been a part of your wedding?

LOVE ETSY!!!! I ordered my bridesmaids gifts from there (custom clutches and pearl necklaces), I plan to order my hair accessories from there (organza hair flower, oh so gorgeous), and I have a whole bunch of non wedding stuff that was just too darling to pass up.

Etsy is a drug to me, seriously. It is so fantastic.

Ah, yes, welcome to your new addiction!
A lovely choice, too.

I’ve ordered a personalized stamp with our names and address and two birds on a vine. It will be my return address stamp for invites. I also plan to order some owl cookies in our colors as gifties (our theme is nature with a bird twist).

I love Etsy. So far wedding related I’ve ordered my brother’s cufflinks, my headband, clutch, bracelet, a hanger with my future name, and my favorite purchase a custom penguin cake topper.

Love the inspiration photo and I love the back jewelry! I am buying a dress that has a jeweled back strap, so I understand your obsession.
Can’t wait to see the post-wedding photos!

Oh the discovery of Etsy (and ebay and Amazon) were my downfall even before (and during and after) our wedding. I relied heavily on etsy for wedding purchases. The necklace thing-y is gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it with the gown! I pretty much have trained myself to buy nearly everything on-line! I hate going to brick & mortar stores. I ain’t gonna lie -I had one problem with an Amazon marketplace vendor leaking my credit card info and someone using my handle on ebay to sell…a city in Sweden. Weird, huh? Overall, my husband & I have had nothing but positive experiences on-line.
