Dress Fitting Take 2

August 16th, 2010 @ 2:55 pm by Mrs. Hot Wings

Dress Fitting Take 2 : wedding san diego wedding dress 16

Thanks for all your kind words after my first fitting. I felt a ton better after my second fitting. Just putting the dress on again felt better. The new bra made such a difference. Without the bustier, my seamstress instantly wanted to take it in at the waist. Can you say, “happy Hot Wings?” I think the shape of the dress is really much more flattering now. If you look closely at the pictures below, you can see that she pinned the sides of the skirt and the back of the dress at the waistline. YAY!

If you recall, I previously challenged myself to speak my mind at this fitting. It turns out that speaking up not only got me the result I wanted, but it also felt really good. I felt like my seamstress felt better, as well. My failure to speak up at my first fitting meant that she didn’t have a sense of what look I was trying to achieve and how best to make me happy. In other words, she can’t make me happy if she doesn’t know what I want. So take that as permission and encouragement to speak your mind!

One thing I really appreciated on this trip was the way that my seamstress explained the reason for taking in the dress at different points. For example, she took in the sides of the skirt instead of the back of it because of the detailed buttons. However, she is taking in the waist at the back of the dress instead of the sides. To take in the waist at the sides would mean many more hours of work and beading. The more hours she spends on my dress, the more I would have to pay. If your seamstress isn’t telling you or asking you about these types of things, I highly recommend that you ask about it.

My last fitting is in a couple days. I’ll let you all wait to see me in it on the big day. It’s right around the corner!

What other advice can you pass on about having your dress altered?

I think there is a definite improvement with this fitting! The dress just fits your body better, and it’s obvious you feel more comfortable in it and thus you look even better in it!

It’s a beautiful gown!

It looks great!! I get shy sometimes when I ask for things too. I think the seamstress wanted to make you aware that you’re changing the whole silhouette of your dress- but I know that’s what you want, and it’s an easy adjustment to an A-line. So happy you’re getting what you want!

Your dress looks great! I definitely found that speaking up helped my fittings immensely. Especially when the seamstress wanted to hem my dress to be about an inch off the ground. I put the kabosh on that!

Awesome! Glad you spoke up. And like you said, unless you articulated what you wanted, she couldn’t deliver it.

Can’t wait for the pictures from the final fitting!
