My Somethings

August 16th, 2010 @ 9:15 am by Mrs. Plaid

Everyone knows the saying, “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue,” right? Am I taking part in that tradition, you ask? Of course. I don’t really know why, but I just feel like I should.

My Something New. (There are lots—but I’ll pick one.)

My beautiful, wonderful dress…how I love thee!

My Something Blue(s). (It’s one of my colors, so there are lots of these, too!

Let’s see…there’s my ring, my shoes (both pairs), my dress sash, my wedding jewelry (earrings and necklace), and my cake stand. That’s kinda a lot. What can I say? I love me some blue!

My Something Borrowed. (It’s also blue; surprise, surprise!)

My Somethings : wedding austin traditions Garter

Tradition says the “something borrowed” should come from a happily married woman. I immediately thought of my aunt. She and my uncle have been married for over ten years and are very happy. I also wanted to borrow something from her because she will not be able to make it to our wedding. I’m happy that she had a garter for me to borrow because, a) It’s beautiful, and b) I wanted a garter. I just didn’t have the energy to make one. Now I can check that off the list. Easy peasy!

My Something Old (or four).

I don’t have this yet. I’ve asked each of my grandparents to contribute a something old for my wedding. I don’t think any of them are going to be able to make it down here to Texas, so I want to have something of each of theirs with me on my big day. I’m not sure what they’ll come up with, but I’ll be happy with anything.

Are y’all following this tradition? If so, what are your somethings?

Oh so cool! I actually tried to discourage people from giving me things but still ended up with a handbag and two handkerchiefs.

I’m just happy the “somethings” are allowing me to incorporate things from people who will only be at my wedding in spirit. I hate that they can’t make it down here.

I love the idea of having each of your grandparents provide a something old! What a sweet idea!

I love your somethings! My old is my Grandmother’s necklace that all of us cousins have worn on our wedding day. My new is my shoes (LOVE my shoes!). My borrowed is a bracelet of my (other) grandmother’s. And my blue is undecided as of yet.

Any ideas for “blue”? I could include a little gem in my bouquet or wear blue underwear ….

@MadtownBride: You could even just wear those bride underwear that are still white but with blue writing. I admit, it’s a lot easier to incorporate blue when it’s one of the colors.

Ohh…and my “somethings.”
