Mrs. Jellyfish, Pleasanton, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Law Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Air Force Pilot Engagement Date: February 21, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Casa Real at Ruby Hill Winery About Me: In a nutshell, I’m the most optimistic worrywart you’ll ever meet. My family emigrated from Romania to San Jose, CA when I was 8, and I've been a Nor Cal girl ever since! My fiancé is also a Bay Area native, so it’s funny that we met at UCLA, as college freshmen living on the same floor (go Bruins!). Between his career as an Air Force pilot and my path to becoming a lawyer, our relationship has been anything but typical. We currently live together in Berkeley with our puppy Stinson. In addition to spending time with the loves of my life, I enjoy crafting, attempting complicated recipes, environmental law and non-law school reading (Us Weekly, anyone?). Follow along as I plan an elegant 200-person winery wedding, graduate law school, take the Bar exam, get married and get used to the always unpredictable but never boring life of a military spouse!

There’s No Minute Like the Last Minute : wedding pleasanton Procrastination procrastination

Source

We’ve had a very long engagement—by the time we get married, we will have been engaged for 19 months. I’ve mentioned this before, but if I could do it over again, I would opt for a shorter engagement. The problem with such a long engagement is that at some point, it seems way too early to do certain things (like make escort cards, programs and menus).

Then, in the blink of an eye, time catches up with you and you find yourself less than 3 weeks away from the wedding with a massive to-do list staring back at you.

Yes, we’re 19 days away from the big day—can you believe it? (You probably can. You’re probably thinking, you’ve been around forever, Jellyfish. I don’t blame you—-it’s true.)

We have 19 days to go and I am kicking myself for not having checked more things off the massive to-do list earlier.

I’m not entirely surprised that I’ve put off so much until the last minute. It’s kind of my modus operandi, and it’s worked well enough for the past 27 years. I like to think of it as “working well under pressure”. I just hope I can get everything done and maintain a sense of calmness leading up to the big day. We’ll just have to see.

Anyone else foolishly leave lots of things until the last minute? How are you coping?

Hi Miss Jellyfish! I am too a life long procrastinator with a really long engagement! By the time we get married we will have been engaged for 20 months…OMG, I’m just realizing that! 20 MONTHS!!! (engaged 6/27/09, wedding 2/05/11!) Anyway, I’m sure I’ll be in the same boat that you are, although I made a promise to myself that I will get the ball rolling in September. I’ll let you know how that turns out.

I’m also in the same boat! We have a 18 mo. engagement [engaged 03/04/10 Wedding date 09/10/11] And between going to school and preparing for my school trip to Africa….I have a feeling it is going to be some serious procrastination involved!!!

I feel like that - I have 11 months to go and don’t necessarily need to do much now…it’s too early! But then I think once school is added onto a full-time job it will all of a sudden be Christmas! And then next summer….and then what do I do?!

Thank you for reminding me that a lot of time is actually not a lot of time when it comes down to it. I hope this kicks me into gear to get some stuff done in the next few weeks!

I probably don’t need to remind you that you were super busy with school, no? and… the Bar, right? It’s forgivable to have put off some wedding tasks. I too procrastinate and work best under pressure, so I’ll probably be in the same boat! And I don’t have an excuse

We chose to have a longer engagement (19 months) but it also needed to work that way so we could have a warm weather wedding. I like to plan so I got my wish!

19 months? When we get married it will have been 2 years & 3 weeks.. crazy! In the first year we got all the essentials done: church, venue, photographer, photo booth, DJ & ever since we hit the 1 year mark I have been reading WeddingBee like it’s my job & in constant wedding planning mode. However, I am definitely feeling that “it’s too far away” feeling in certain areas but I’m trying to just nail down one thing at a time. Right now we’re in the midst of getting our Save the Dates out & tackling the centerpieces!

Good luck in the next couple weeks & an early Congrats!

*wry grin* We’ve been engaged for 16 months already and still don’t have a date… we expect it to be in about two years, which will make it over a 3-year engagement. There are financial reasons for that.

But on procrastination… ohhhh yes, it is a familiar thing. And I’ve found I do work better under some crunch. I expect that when it finally comes down to it, I’ll be doing last minute DIY stuff. Happily FI is well aware of this habit of mine and has already started nixing certain ideas because he doesn’t want me taking on the stress of them in the last few days.

Even with a short engagement there are plenty of things it seems “too early” to do! Good luck sista!

We majorly procrastinated on our invites and STDs. If we would have done them sooner they wouldn’t have coincided so much with Mr. G’s visa process. Planning a wedding makes me feel like I’m in college all over again.

I was the same way! It seems like everything was so far off, then wham! Emergency ACK-why-didn’t-we-do-this-sooner status.

You’ll get there, one way or another. Don’t worry about cutting stuff either. 2 am on our wedding day? I was still finishing projects and abandoning others.

Here is my attempt to “one-up” everyone:

We have been engaged almost 18 months and we still dont even have a date set. Having just bought a house (and spent the last year and a half saving up), we dont see a wedding happening any time in the near future.

Heartbreaking? Yes. Worth the wait? I hope so!
