Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

Faux Fitting

Faux Fitting : wedding guam wedding dress Barrettes15 barrettes1

The morning of my mom’s flight out of Guam, we met the girls at Iridescent for our “Faux Fitting.” I wanted my mom to have the experience of dress shopping because my wedding dress experience has been a bit different. We will be modifying her wedding dress for me to wear during the ceremony, and I will then wear a fabulous little white number for the reception. So…no true “Say Yes to the Dress” moment for us.

Knowing that I wouldn’t actually be falling in love with a dress, I jumped right in to try a few different styles, just so we could get some idea of what we did like. At the time of this fitting, we had plenty of time to play with the details. I already have a pretty good idea of how I would like her dress to be manipulated, so the seamstress has her work cut out for her.

After a few dresses, I was getting bored with their selection and decided to try a veil, since I truly don’t know what I’m doing in that area yet. I freaked out a little once it was on my head! Ahhh! A veil!! It’s real!!!

Friend Barrettes played dress-up as well, and she tried on one dress that I actually really liked. Well, I say that loosely. I liked it better than most of the dresses there. I’m sure had there been a better selection and more dresses in my size, it wouldn’t have been my favorite…but we worked with what we had. I really did feel like a BRIDE in it. It fit me well and flattered my semi-curveless body…

Pretty, right?! This just makes me that much more excited for my real dress! Can’t wait until my mom and I have that true moment when we know it’s perfect…♥

What was your “Say Yes to the Dress” moment? How did you know it was THE ONE?

So many pretty options! First off, I love that you’ll be modifying your mother’s dress, keeping it classic but true to you at the same time. Second, it’s great how you bevel in almost every photo - a true dancer!! =D

I REALLY want to try out dresses here but of course I won’t be buying. I am too scared to go into a dress shop; do I lie and pretend I’m looking to buy? Do I tell them straight out that I’m not going to buy and (probably) get really crappy customer service? How did you do it B?

Beautiful dresses! Can’t wait to see you in your Mom’s dress, that’s wonderful that you’ll be wearing it!

I knew mine was the one when I put it on and started giggling uncontrollably. I felt freakin GIDDY in it, and never wanted to take it off!

I didn’t have a “Say Yes to The Dress” moment either. My dress was the first one I tired on… ever.

I didn’t “know” it was the one until I had tried it on 3 times after trying on several others at two different salons. And even then it wasn’t until they put clips on the sleeves to show me what they would look like as cap sleeves and pulled the neckline into a sweetheart.

So basically I’m clipped and pinned everywhere and I’m thinking “Yeah… this will be it… eventually.” I love my dress and all… it just isn’t MY dress yet. So I know how you feel. I was crying the night before shopping just watching Say Yes To The Dress… but as it turns out, not everybody has that moment.

I’ve had one dress shopping experience so far & after trying on several dresses I may or may not have found “the one.” People tell me if I find something I REALLY like to just buy it & stop looking but I know I need to have more appointments, at different places to get the full experience I want!

So sweet that you and your mom were at least able to have some of the dress shopping experience together! I can’t wait to see the final dress!

@Miss Glasses: Don’t tell them you aren’t going to buy. Just go in there, do your thing, have fun, and then say, “Thank You! I’m going to keep looking, but I will keep you in mind!”

Can’t wait to show you guys Mom’s dress. It will be coming up in a post soon. I’m sort of stressed out about it!!!
