Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

But He Likes It Short…

August 18th, 2010 @ 9:40 am by Mrs. Barrettes

I found these hair-spiration images and immediately saved them to remind me why I’m growing my hair out. Whenever I start to have a little bit of growth past my shoulders, I suddenly have the urge to go back to my angled bob. The grass is always greener, isn’t it?

After I had washed and dried and flat-ironed my locks, and felt really happy with the end result (seriously, alcohol-free is good for the hair), Ryan says, “I really like when your hair is short. It’s pretty that way.” Ugghhhhhhhhh. I have been growing it out for the wedding because there is so much more you can do with more length, but how can I argue with that!? He never tells me he likes my hair! (Well, I suppose he just did—and the winner is short.)

So therein lies the problem. I know ultimately the decision of how I want my hair to look on my wedding day is mine (and MOH’s). I thought that years from now, when I’m looking at photos, I’d want to see long and healthy tresses shining back at me. But let’s be honest. I wouldn’t wear my hair DOWN for the wedding. There would be some form of up-do. And we could use extensions for that. The only time I like wearing my hair down is when it’s short and framing my face.

Short or long? Bangs or no bangs? Does every bride lament this decision?

I want to cut my hair short but I am waiting till after the wedding. I agree, there is so much more you can do with long hair and it looks so pretty in pictures!

My suggestion would be to keep growing it until closer to the wedding. According to my hair dresser, hair grows at an average of 1/2 an inch a month - and you really only have 2ish months left, right? If you decide on an up-do you will have more to work with, if you decide on wearing it down you’ll have a look you’re craving; and you can always cut it right before or do a post-wedding chop (PWC).

You’re hair is beautiful and I’m betting you’ll look gorgeous either way!

I love your hair in the photo! You can totally do an updo at that length.

I think you should wear your hair however your happiest with it. I always wear my hair right around shoulder length and wanted to look like myself at my wedding. Yeah I could have grown it out and worn an elaborate updo but that’s not me.

I’d say if there’s an awesome up-do you’ve been wanting and imagining for your wedding then keep growing. But if not… I think short with bangs would be cute and very You for your wedding if that’s how you usually wear it. But Mr. B will think you’re beautiful no matter what when he sees you on your wedding day.

This post is so perfect for me today bc I’ve been growing my hair out too, and now that it’s finally getting long, I have the urge to go back to the bob too!!

I think the bob (shorter) look is great for everyday, it’s cleaner and the hair looks healthier, it’s easier to manage… but… I keep thinking I’ll want the locks to be able to do whatever hairstyle I want for the wedding.

Some days I think I’m totally lame for growing it out when I know I like it better short. I should go with what I like. You made a good point too that it’s not like it’s going to be down! uuughhhh. I’m in the same boat. I feel ya!!!!

My hair is shorter than that and I’m doing an updo. Don’t worry about it.

I’m having a tough time with this, too. I really wanted to wear my hair up, but FI really doesn’t like it like that. Since I want him to see me as the most beautiful ever, I’m doing half up/down. It’s important to me that I look good for me, but it’s also for him.

I love your angled bob! I debate a haircut all the time, but my FI is the opposite of yours…he likes it long.

Yeah long hair is definitely great and i guess its kind of the norm to grow it out for a wedding but i must say you are stunningly beautiful with long or short hair you look like a model. So whatever you decide you can definitely work it lol

Love the angled bob and you look great with those bangs…it’s very chic and could def work for a wedding, but if you are looking at a particular style that requires long hair I would wait it out and do the PWC and start married life as a hottie patottie!

Figures he would comment on your hair NOW right? haha. Just yesterday I was getting a haircut (get rid of the dead stuff trim) & mentioned I was growing my hair out for my wedding but that it was already starting to annoy me & I’d probably just chop it off afterwards! The hairdresser told me that just past the shoulders is really all you need & *gasp* who knew but BEST for updos! Now I have to admit I’m rethinking my plans.. although kind of going in the direction that I might want long curly tresses (mostly down) after all. Hmm.

Don’t cut! save it for a wicked PWC ala Mrs. Pencils.

Since that cut, my hair is 1 1/2 inches past my shoulders. Hair and nails grow quickly on Guam! It looks like it will be plenty to do an up-do :)

@Roux: I think I’m going to save my PWC until we move back to the States. That change will do me good!

I love the angled bob look on you, it frames your face perfectly. You’ve come this far though, keep it long for the wedding so it is more versatile and then chop it all off afterwards!

I’ve always loved my long hair but my husband begs me to cut it short but he will never win that argument, hehe. The most I’ve done to make it look shorter without losing too much length is having it layered.
