Well, hello there, hive! It’s me… Miss Hippo! I can’t begin to tell you how absolutely thrilled/shocked/nervous/excited I am to be here! I was literally in the dentist chair waiting for the novocaïne to kick in when I got the e-mail from Mrs. Penguin saying I’d be “a great addition to the Weddingbee team!” IT WAS THE BEST DENTIST VISIT EVER!!! I can’t wait to share our wedding story with you, and I hope that I can live up to the amazing bees who have come before me and blogged their way into your hearts. No pressure!
So, a little bit about the Hippos… We are Texans at heart pretending to be New Yorkers while planning a March 2011 wedding in the Lone Star State.
Me & Mr. Hippo
We met back in 2007 when we were working for the same company in Dallas and quickly started an office romance (scandalous!) just months before Mr. Hippo was transferred to the company’s New York headquarters. We decided to do the long distance thing and traveled between Dallas and NYC to see each other for about a year before I made the move to join Mr. Hippo in the greatest city on the planet. I’m an event planner for a non-profit, so even though this is my first wedding, it’s not my first big event I’ve planned, so I have the advantage of knowing the ins and outs of dealing with vendors, timelines and budgets, but the disadvantage of expecting every microscopic detail to be perfect. I am Type A to the core, and I would have it no other way!
So, why would I voluntarily choose to be called a Hippo on a daily basis, you ask? Well, when I showed the Safari Animals generation to Mr. Hippo and asked for his help in choosing a moniker, he said, “Hmmm… that’s difficult. I think you are graceful like a gazelle, fierce like the lioness, thoughtful like the elephant, and hungry like the hippo!!” Huh. I do love me some food. So, Miss Hippo it is! Not to mention that the hippo icon is just precious and that I loved the game Hungry Hungry Hippos as a kid. And for those of you who don’t know, the version in the ’80s ruled!
Speaking of Mr. Hippo, he has asked to be known as King Hippo from here on out as a tribute to one of his favorite video games as a kid. King Hippo? Seriously, honey??? We’ll see…

We are planning a celebration for 120 or so of our nearest and dearest that we hope will be traditional enough to make people feel like they’re at a wedding, but still infused with plenty of uniqueness and character to make it feel like us. I can’t wait to take you along on the ride!
