Paper Products - To Hell and Back

August 19th, 2010 @ 8:14 am by Mrs. Lobster

My days have lately been consumed by paper products, paper problems, and paper parties! I consider what I’ve gone through a tour of paper hell. Let me recap…

Menus: A Mini-win for Lobster

Last time on Lobsters Shouldn’t DIY, I had major fails with the printer when working on the menus. After taking the hive’s advice, I cleaned the print heads and did some printer maintenance. It didn’t find fix the problem. But by some miracle, the menus turned out 98% perfect. How not-so-perfect with the 2%?

The dreaded dashed line was still there. Before you think I’m crazy, I know that the dashed line isn’t noticeable. And so I carried on.

this is one of the better ones

In order to keep the dashed lines to a minimum, I had to print only a few menus at a time, turn off the printer to rest, do the happy printer dance, and hope it would print good menus again.

The final product:

Yay! I was so ecstatic and proud of myself when these menus were done.

Next challenge?

Stupid Freakin’ Escort Cards

The dreaded escort and place cards. Cue scary music. I *could* have written a whole post on just that but I didn’t take any pictures because printing these suckers was SO frustrating. Lesson here? Use a big printer or the one at work. ’Nuff said.

Next!

The Guestbook

Here was an easy project inspired by one Mrs. Pug who so eloquently put it “Sign My Butt” No, Mrs. Pug, YOU sign MY butt. I got through this project in 3 hours using our engagement shoot pics. I’d recommend super high resolution for this puppy for the book to turn out pretty. I submitted my project on a Thursday night (or rather 3 AM on a Friday morning) via MyPublisher and got it by Wednesday.

It arrives in cute packaging and makes your photos real. I’d recommend MyPublisher. It even has a “check price” button so you know when you’re going overboard with the pics!

So there you have it. Two heart-wrenching paper projects balanced with one positive one.

How did you conquer all your paper projects before the wedding?

Ummm, yeah. There has been a lot of deep breathing, not-so-deep cursing and a 4th quarter player substitution (I HAD to buy a new printer… it was that, or lose the last vestiges of sanity).

I still have some pretty major projects to finish, but there are exactly 17 week ends left before the wedding. Wow, when you put it that way, it seems really close! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

Lobster, these posts give me flashbacks of terror. We used our free-with-laptop crap printer for every printed project we made, and there were many expletives, runs for OMG ANOTHER FREAKING INK CARTRIDGE, and repetitions of our mantra, “I will not give this inanimate object power over my emotions and sanity.”

Congrats on making it through other side of printing hell.

I know they probably caused you a lot of stress and anguish but they are lovely! Especially your menu!

I loove the menu’s!! Do you mind sharing what fonts you used?

I feel your printerpain. FI bought me a new printer/fax/copier/scanner a few months ago and it’s been quite a “challenge” figuring out how to simply print what I want.. Seriously who needs 4 feeding options when I cant get one to work??

I’m not dissin’ on the printer, it’s probably User Error for me because it does everything else easily… I’ve scanned hundreds of photos!

Guestbook looks beautiful.. I’m not doing a photo-guestbook for fears of people drawing mustaches on our faces! (we have a few prankster friends.. keep sharpies out of their hands!)

@Mrs. Snow: @Jennifer5642: @misschristinec@hotmail.com: Ah, yes the common cursing at the printer. I’m glad I’m not the only one but feel sorry for all of you too.
@nina: @Yvonne110511: books start at $29.80 for 20 pages and add on after that. MyPublisher also has a lot of promotions (free 2nd book, % off) and I used a $20 off coupon.

Well, it looks great despite the hassles. And can I say, I have heeded your advice since the beginning - I use my office printer. The one and only thing we did at home (invitation addresses) was nightmare-ish enough to make me want to stay late and do every project at work.
