Mrs. Plaid, Austin Age and Occupation: 26, Pastry Chef Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Cabinetry Carpenter Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Kindred Oaks, Georgetown About Me: I am a Jersey girl born and raised but have since migrated to Texas and embraced its twang and Tex-Mex. I could probably eat chips and queso every day but instead I eat popcorn. I use the word “awesome” way too much but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I am addicted to all things DIY and am planning what I call a Texas-Chic wedding. I love snuggling with my two adorable dogs and of course, my adorable fiance. I can’t wait 'til I can call him my husband some day! October 2010, here we come!
About Mrs. Plaid

Sorry, Pretty in Pink was on TV over the weekend, and it inspired the title of this blog entry! (PS…don’t you just love Ducky!) OK, as promised, here is the first of many DIY posts. And can I just tell you, I have been B-U-S-Y!!! So first up are our arbor decorations!

Do you remember the bouquets I made for myself and my ladies? If not, check ’em out! (Although actually, they look a bit different now—another post is necessary. But same concept!) Well, when I finished with the bouquets I had a bunch—and by bunch I mean hundreds (I think Co-MOH S and I got a little carried away) of tissue paper circles left over. I knew I’d find some use for them, so I slipped them into an envelope and saved them for later.

Well then a couple weeks ago, my sister and I headed out to my venue to take some measurements and photographs of some specific areas of the site, one of them being the arbor. They have a metal arbor already set up with fake ivy and twinkle lights wrapped around it. When we got there, flowers were still up from a wedding over the weekend. It immediately gave me an idea of what I wanted.

Enter leftover paper flowers. In addition to the yellow and white flowers I originally made, I also added some blue flowers in (made with security envelopes)! I headed to my favorite store, JoAnn Fabrics, for two styrofoam half-balls and one rectangular styrofoam piece. I think it was about 1.5 feet long.

First, I inserted a couple pieces of long wire through the Styrofoam pieces so that I will be able to attach them to the metal frame of the arbor. Then I just started inserting the individual flowers until the entire surface was covered. It was very easy and didn’t take much time at all. (Keep in mind that the flowers were already made.)

Here’s my question now, though. Do you think I should add ribbon to make it look a bit more interesting or simply leave it with just the flowers?

Pretty in Blue and Yellow (Not Pink!) : wedding austin decor diy Arbord01 Please excuse my crappy ribbons. I promise the real thing will look much better if I decide to use ribbon.

How did you decorate you ceremony space? What inspired your ideas?

I think some ribbon would be very pretty there. Looks great as is though, so I certainly wouldn’t stress about it!

I love the ribbons. Plus, if there is any breeze, they will float around, and I think that looks really romantic (and will make for great photos!).

I love it with the ribbons. I feel like they tie in the three flower groupings very nicely, so I say go for it!

Wow, those look amazing!! I may be a bit biased since my own wedding colors were blue and yellow but still…And I think the ribbon will look super-cute on the arbor!

On a random side note, did you know that the original plot of Pretty In Pink had Molly Ringwald ditching the rich boy for Ducky at the end but Molly didn’t want to do that so they changed the whole end of the movie! I think she and Ducky should have ended up together, would’ve been a much better story!

@Mrs. Trail Mix: That movie would’ve been way better if she ended up with Ducky. I love Ducky!
