Mrs. Trail Mix, New York Age and Occupation: 26, PE Teacher Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, MBA Student Engagement Date: March 2009 Wedding Date: June 2010 Venue: Tannery Pond at the Darrow School About Me: I'm a country girl who somehow found herself living in the Big Apple and loving every minute of it. I'm planning a rustic, country-chic wedding in my hometown in upstate New York and it's going to be a Party with a capital P. White wine, flea markets and running keep me happy and my friends, family and fiance are my world. I'm a little bit crafty, a little bit crazy but mostly just crazy in love.
About Mrs. Trail Mix

OK, friends, I need your help with this one. First of all, here’s quick rundown of the situation. Mr Trail Mix and I are attending a wedding in September on Cape Cod and the reception is going to be in a tent. Since I was on such a dress-buying binge before my own wedding this past June, I made myself promise not to buy a new dress for the rest of the year (I will totally admit, I have quite the dress collection.).

Shoes, however, are another whooooole ballgame. Yesterday, I went to consign some clothing, which is a great way to streamline your closet and make a few bucks! Peeps in the Northeast, check out Second Time Around, which has branches all over New England, New York and DC, it’s my favorite!

Anyways, while I was dropping of my clothes, I noticed a certain pair of shoes. They happened to be wedges, which would be perfect for an outdoor wedding. Oh yeah, and they were Jimmy Choo. (I’m a label-whore, I totally admit it!)

So there they were, this beautiful pair of wedge Jimmys that happened to be in my size and that happened to be on sale…

You know where this story is going. Of course, I bought the dang shoes…

Squeeeeeeal!!! Aren’t they divine?

A Wedding Dilemma of Another Sort : wedding albany shoes Blogst01 Blog+St01

So so so SO pretty, right? And since it was a consignment shop, this was technically recycling. So (through my twisted logic) by purchasing them, not only was I improving my wardrobe but helping the environment. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Alright, so you’re probably wondering what my freakin’ question is by now, right?

Here’s the deal: I was planning on wearing them with a dark blue dress. Perfect for a fall wedding, doncha think? But this morning (after I bought them and they’re non-returnable) I realized with a sinking heart that back in July the bride had told me that the wedding colors are… Yup, you guessed it, navy and orange. Oh, crap.

So here’s my conundrum: Is it weird to wear an outfit that coordinates with the wedding colors?

I swear it was completely unintentional, I just got so excited by the idea of this beautiful pair of shoes that were miraculously in my size for such a good price! My dress is more of a royal blue, not navy, but still… ergh.

Weigh in on this one, folks. What do you think? Will anyone notice? Will anyone (like the bride) care? Should I swap the dress for another? I’m reluctant to do this because I haven’t worn the dress yet either. Tell me your opinion before I commit some major wedding faux pas!

I can assure you that at my wedding I would never have noticed a guest’s shoes. As long as your dress looks different from the bridesmaid dresses, you are completely in the clear.

I would wear the shoes. I really don’t think it’s a big deal - and they are soooooo cite! The bridesmaids WISH they got to wear those shoes…!

hmm.. this is a tough call!

I would still wear the dress. My colors are navy, silver, and lightblue - and with a winter wedding I’m expecting folks to be wearing darker blues…

PLUS those shoes are tooo stinkin’ amazing to NOT wear -and the only other colored dresses that would go with the shoes would be a light blue dress (not a good september color for the Cape) or white (faux pas). soo you are stuck with wearing a darker blue and those heavenly pieces of foot candy! :)

My bridesmaids are wearing navy, and I wouldn’t be upset if one of our guests wore their own navy dress….unless is was super similar to my bridesmaids’ dresses. Any way you can figure out their dress style??

I totally understand your dilemna…I always worry that the dresses I wear to weddings will match the bridesmaids, too. (so I usually end up wearing black with a funky purse or shoes!)

There is no way the BMs would be wearing those same shoes (just TOO much coincidence!) and if your dress is even slightly a different hue from the BMs dresses (and it sounds like it is) then you are totally fine! Agreed with jaclyn, the bride and groom will totally not even notice your shoes.

Go for it! I have always thought it was kind of silly to care if people happen to match your colors - the only thing I would ever care about is if someone wore all white! Beyond that, I don’t care what the guests wear!

i wouldn’t worry about it. It’s not like you’re going to be in a ton of pictures with the bridesmaids or standing up near the alter with them. And it sounds like your dress is a different shade anyway. I say, go for it!

Do you have an aqua dress and an orange or navy sweater or bolero that you could wear with it?
Those shoes are great!

If your dress is similar to the BM dresses (like a short J.Crew dress), I would not wear it. But if your dress is short and spaghetti straps and the bridesmaids are in long strapless dresses, I don’t think it’s a big deal at ALL.

If anything, the bride will probably compliment your great taste! The shoes are great!

Thanks, you guys!!
I’m not positive about this but I think the bridesmaids are wearing the JCrew cotton cady dress in navy…My dress is a silk, royal blue, so different from the dresses but not toooootally different, ya kno?
I also don’t think they’re wearing orange shoes but I believe the bouquets will be orange…Ugh, tough call!

WEAR THEM. I promise you no one will notice your shoes, least of all the bride. It’s not like you’re wearing a navy dress with an orange bow and trying to look like a bridesmaid. Just think… can you describe the shoes of any one of the guests from your own wedding? Probs not. And if so, they must have been some damn good shoes! Either way, I say go for it. Those shoes are too good to stay home in the closet.

Yeah I think once you’re sure that it’s not identical to their dress you’re sound. Maybe bring a cardigan as well. You might be glad of it anyway, if it gets cool in the evening?

eh - I thought it was customary for guest to try to coordinate with the wedding colors? Many of my female guest have asked what the wedding colors are so that they can wear clothes in the colors!

what is the dress made out of? I would think you could do it as long as it isn’t some fancy fabric that would be similar to the bridesmaid dresses. ie. if your dress was a dark blue satin I think that would probably be too similar to the bridesmaids. But if yours was cotton or something more casual then I say go ahead and wear it!

Could you wear a sweater or shrug to differentiate?

I think it doesn’t matter if you are wearing the same colors as long as the dress is different from the BM’s. LIke a different shade of blue, different fabric and I doubt the BM’s would be wearing navy and orange Jimmy Choo shoes.

Wear them! No one’s going to notice, and if you hadn’t just planned your own wedding, you wouldn’t give it a second thought. Neither will anyone else.
