Mrs. Argyle's Picture
Mrs. Argyle, St. Louis Age and Occupation: 24, Project Coordinator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Pilot Engagement Date: February 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on Washington About Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
About Mrs. Argyle

Mr. A’s family is not from St. Louis. And, even for those of our guests who are from St. Louis, not everyone can navigate to the Jewel Box or Windows on Washington without a little help from Google Maps. This was exactly why we wanted to include a map with our written out directions. But I wasn’t up for trying to create a map myself. I have some artistic ability, but I’m sticking to my stick figure drawings. I knew there was really only one person I wanted to do our map: Amanda from Swoonoverit. Her hand drawn maps have great character and flair. Plus, they’re just good fun.

After she sent me a worksheet, I filled it out and sent it back along with my deposit. She had a few questions along the way - just to make sure all was well, and, she sent me a few drafts to review. With the final sign-off, she drew a final copy, and dropped it in the mail.

Because everything in our invitation suite was either red or white, I had to do a little Photoshop magic. I wanted to make everything on the map appear in red, rather than the black - but wanted it to be the exact red from our invites. With a little Photoshop quality time, the map went from black and white to red and white.

For the back, we included written out directions, along with details about the hotel blocks we set up, and our wedding website so guests could find out more details.

It was the perfect little invitation insert.

How did you help your guests to navigate for your wedding day?

I LOVE the Jewel Box, I planned a wedding there for a couple a few years ago. It is such a beautiful venue. I wish Chicago had something as affordable and gorgeous!

The map looks great! We DIY’d this- it looks amateur of course but I HAD to have a “hand drawn” map.

Well, most of our guests are coming from KC so I gave them directions from I-70 to the Westport Sheraton and then there’s a shuttle that goes from the Sheraton to the Larimore so it worked out pretty well, I didn’t have to do a map, although I tried at first and failed miserably :)

I’m from St. Louis and I must say you’re a lucky lady to be able to have your wedding at such beautiful venues! The maps are adorable. :)

@Miss Thimble: I tried to do it myself, and it just wasn’t working. I had to bring in the pros.

@Miss Husky: Thanks pretty lady!

@Maneki Neko: Thanks!

How cute! I think LA, being a fairly modern city, is well-planned out enough that I didn’t need to get our guests a special map.

Argyl, I think it looks fantastic!
@Miss Glasses: If you gave guests a map of LA, it would have to be a jumbo foldout map to be useful!

We provided a lot of text directions on the wedding website—that’d at least get them to the right town—but we knew getting them to the actual site would take a little more than that.

Fortunately, the FILs planned a welcome party at an absolutely unmissable location. Like, if you can’t find the welcome party, you probably couldn’t find your car in your own garage to drive there to begin with. So we had little handouts there, with wedding-specific maps (traced from Google), emergency phone numbers, and ideas on what to do in the area.
