A Whole New Veil

August 20th, 2010 @ 1:52 pm by Mrs. Plaid

I realize I haven’t shown y’all my sad attempt at making my own veil, so here it is. Look real fast and then move on ’cause it’s uuuggggggllllyyyy!

Yeah that was one of my first DIY projects—my veil. Well after finishing it, I promptly decided that I hated it. Welcome to my indecisive world!

And thus began the search for the perfect veil. I decided to steer clear of the DIY veil again and just spring for an already assembled veil instead.

I still wanted a birdcage-style veil. At least I haven’t changed my mind on that matter. So I headed over to the ever-faithful Etsy. I almost immediately found this veil and fell in love.

It’s freakin’ perfect! It’s the same material as the bottom part of my dress, and it really goes with the 1940s feel of my dress. The only thing I struggled with was the price.

Luckily I had already tried my hand at the DIY veil and knew it wasn’t good, so I took the plunge and added it to my shopping cart. And here’s where the fun begins!

I waited anxiously for my veil to arrive, and after two weeks it still hadn’t arrived. Sad face. I sent the shop owner an e-mail to see what was going on, and she said the veil got returned to her the day before. The box had been marked undeliverable. What?!

We verified my address, and she sent it again. Another two weeks later and still no veil. So I e-mailed again, and again it had been returned. What the heck?!

Thankfully (and randomly) the shop owner lives in Austin and offered to allow me to come to her house to pick it up. Yay!!! So without further ado, here’s my awesome, perfect, wonderful veil on me:

Are you wearing a veil on your wedding day? Where did you go for veil inspiration?

(RANDOM SIDE NOTE: The seller’s neighbors had about ten peacocks living in their front yard…only in Austin.)

I went birdcage! I couldn’t deal with a huge flowy veil and I knew I loved the vintagey thing.

Beautiful birdcage! Your “only in Austin” comment made me think of the “Keep Austin Weird” bumper stickers. I have a coworker who recently moved here (CO) from Texas, and she has a bumper sticker that says “Keep Wimberly Weirder” - I know that’s random, but it cracked me up and thought you might get a kick out of it too :)

I opted for no veil, but I was VERY close to choosing a birdcage.

How fortunate that she lived so close! Looks good!

Can you talk to someone at USPS/couriers/whoever about WHY your veil kept being returned? I’d be worried about that - you really want wedding stuff to arrive on time!

Veil is lovely, by the way!

Thanks for the compliments. I’m obsessed with my veil.

@aunt pol: I did talk to USPS. It all seems to be resolved now. It was totally random and weird. But it seems to be over, thank god!
