Mrs. Locket's Picture
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law Engagement Date: June 15, 2009 Wedding Date: September 2010 Venue: Heron Hill Winery About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
About Mrs. Locket

Oh Honey, Honey…

August 20th, 2010 @ 11:22 am by Mrs. Locket

HONEYMOON! How I can’t wait for you to get here! Last week we made the final payment on our honeymoon package, and I couldn’t be more excited! In less than 40 days we will be newlyweds, chillaxing on the beaches of the Riviera Maya in Mexico and sipping yummy frozen drinks. As you can imagine, with all the wedding planning stress and family drama, this honeymoon is going to be much needed (as will those drinks!).

In the four-plus years that we have been together, we have yet to take any big trips or vacations. We knew when it came to planning our honeymoon we wanted to go somewhere that didn’t require multiple layers of clothes; but where could we go that was warm, sunny, with blue waters, and affordable?

Our first thought was a Caribbean cruise. And way back in February, we were really set on booking a cruise; so set in fact that we had the money on the card and were just a few clicks away from reserving our cabin, until we decided maybe we should wait and talk to a rep. So we waited until the next day, and would you know what happened then? Mr. L was laid off. :( Which meant our honeymoon fund was now our emergency fund, and planning our honeymoon would have to wait.

Fast forward to a couple months ago…I had put the idea of a sunny honeymoon to rest, but Mr. L wasn’t so complacent. Despite setbacks we were still able to feed our honey-fund and had managed to put away 1.5K, which wasn’t quite enough to pay for a cruise. Fortunately for us, Mr. L wasn’t ready to roll over and give up. He put himself to work and set up an appointment with a local travel agent, giving her the details of what we wanted and how much we were willing to pay. Surprisingly, she sent us over a few all-inclusive options that fit into our under-2K budget, and we began to realize we could actually afford a decent honeymoon.

After brief deliberation and hours spent ogling photos of the blue waters of Mexico, it was decided. We would be spending our honeymoon at the Dreams Resort Puerto Aventuras! The best part is that the trip is all inclusive (including flights, food, non-motorized watersports, etc.) and under $2K; plus we get a $200 resort credit to be used however we wish.

Our room will (hopefully) look something like this:

And, we will stuff our faces in one of the many restaurants:

EEEE!!! I am super excited! Can you tell?

Are you excited for your honeymoon? What are you planning?

We stayed there back when it was Sunscape. Really nice resort with great balconies. I think that was my favorite part.

All-inclusive resorts are definitely the best way to go when you’re looking at a small budget. We went to Sandals in Antigua for 5 days and it was AMAZING! The best part has got to be the free drinks and food…oh! and of course the beach! I know that you and your husband will definitely appreciate this much needed trip. Happy traveling and be sure to ask if the resort filters their water. Don’t risk getting sick on your honeymoon! :)

That sounds like a great place. We are still trynig to decide between a cruise or an all-inclusive resort.

I was there in 2006 with my family. The resort is great with lots to do and really nice staff. Venture off the resort and into Puerto Adventuras Theres bars, restaurants and swim with dolphins. Its also a 10min cab ride to Playa de Carmen which has great shopping and restaurants like senor frogs. We had some minor stomach issues just pack a variety of stomach meds just in case.
