About Mrs. Octopus

Ridiculous Things I Want

August 20th, 2010 @ 12:11 pm by Mrs. Octopus

While there aren’t any formal plans in place for it yet, I’m fairly sure that when our wedding reception ends at 11 PM, there will be an after-party at a nearby bar. My thinking is that Mr. O and I would definitely like to attend the after-party and keep the good times rolling with our friends and family (we have the rest of our lives to gaze dreamily into each other’s eyes in private, right?).

My wedding dress is reasonably comfortable, by which I mean it probably won’t have killed me by the end of the night. I plan to wear it throughout the reception, but for the after-party? Hells nah. I will want that sucker OFF by then. So, now I have become enamored of the idea of having an after-party dress. This after-party dress.

You guys. This dress is ivory. Being an ivory-colored person, I never wear ivory. It is also completely covered in sequins. I do not ever wear anything covered in sequins. It is a totally over-the-top, one-wear, fancy, ridiculous, not-really-me, 138-dollar dress. And I WANNTTTTT ITTTTT. Because, look, I’m going to be wearing fake eyelashes and a very large hair accessory made of feathers and crystals and netting, and it’s my wedding day. WHEN ELSE in my entire life can I sport a crazy, sparkly, sequined white dress and feel good about it? It’s my wedding day, and I will dress like a showgirl if I want to.

I will probably not buy this dress. Probably. It’s silly to buy another dress for my wedding day that I will never wear again. I mean, right? … Oooooh, sequins. But probably not.

While we’re playing the Veruca Salt “I want, I want, give it to me nowwwww” game, though, you know what else occurred to me would be fun to have?

A really silly and decadent bathrobe to wear while getting my hair and makeup done in the morning. If I could be more specific, a SATIN KIMONO! (Just typing the words “satin kimono” made me laugh out loud. It sounds so aging-diva.)

Or maybe a really plushy white bathrobe that says BRIDE on the back in RHINESTONES! This is a fun game. For the record, I also want a photo booth, chivari chairs, upgraded linens, a gigantic dessert table, ginormous floral centerpieces, and a late-night snack of Primanti Bros sandwiches brought into the reception. And that honeymoon to Japan and Thailand I originally envisioned. And a second honeymoon to France and Italy. Also, another French bulldog, although that’s not wedding-related.

LOOK HOW CUTE SHE IS! Now imagine how cute it would be if I had TWO of these!

Now it’s your turn. What ridiculous, impractical, won’t-happen-but-wouldn’t-it-be-fun items do YOU have on your mind?

i am also an ivory colored person.
GO FOR THE DRESS.
and don’t underestimate the weight of your wedding dress - mine was a long, slightly formal bridesmaid dress and all the weight of it really weighed on me by the end of the night. your body just isn’t used to that extra heft.

ROFL.

However, I think you should get the sequined dress. You can wear it again in Vegas. And, it is adorable and you can’t wear your superswank wedding dress to a bar (I said so.). Sequined ivory minidress? Go!

(And I was totally buying the “You’ll be *EXHAUSTED* after the wedding” rhetoric, but I wasn’t. I stayed up with folks until 3AM!)

I LOVE that sequin number! Perhaps we should be brainstorming how you could get another use out of it… Flapper for Halloween. Fancy schmancy New Year’s Party. I don’t know, Octo. That dress has some serious potential!

I wish sequins were more acceptable for everything. I’m such a magpie. I want all shiny things.

LOL - You’re too funny!
And as another ivory-skinned person, (oh, heck, who am I kidding - I’m a ghost!) - I wear ivory, creams and whites all the time. It makes me happy. And I actually think we can pull it off! :-)
Buy the dress. It’s simply fabulous. And you will wear it - on cruises, amazing vacations, and NEW YEARS! I wore a dress just like that for last New Years… and I felt like magic in it.
Go get it!

Maybe after the after-party the Primanti’s sandwich is do-able and is definitely budget-friendly :) :) Uplighting and chair covers are the two things off the top of my head that I already know are just plain old NOT in the budget. *sigh* Oh well…. it does seem so silly to me to spend money like that when I can use it elsewhere. The one ridiculous thing I’d want is my favorite musician (big-name) to show up and sing our first dance song. Perfection!!

I love the dress! I have actually bought two after reception dresses and now have no idea which to wear.

That brings my count up to:
2 wedding dresses
1 reception dress
2 after party dresses

I really can’t control my purchasing of white dresses… I’m thinking about seeking help.

i love this dress! who makes it? because i want it!!

as for things i would love, would be to dance all night long, have those fabulous lights, or over the top flowers that you see on platinum brides.
but the one thing that IF i could have is….. purple Manolo Blahnik style: Something purple satin pumps

OMG! I want that dress now too! I hadn’t thought about an after party dress, but now that you mention it, it is a must! And I say go for it with the robe, either one.. I’m a fan of the bride one! I think I will be ordering mine later this week.

I totally want a satin/SILK bathrobe too! I already told my best friend and am now working hard to convince him that no, it would /not/ be a silly, useless bridal gift AT ALL ;)

VERY cute dress. If your budget won’t break- get it. I’m confident you can pull it off.
As for your “what do I want” question- a photobooth, a videographer (actually, 2- one that does a music video type video a la Mrs. Scissors, and another to do a more traditional, documentary type video), chivari chairs, a honeymoon (Maui, pls!), more hors d’oeuvres, more time at our venue, fancy lighting, a full-time wedding coordinator, a late-night snack brought in (taco truck, In N Out, an ice cream bar, cookies & milk, I don’t care…)oh– and if we’re talking truly anything- I’d like a way to guarantee that I’ll lose the 30lbs I want to lose by the wedding day. Is that all really too much to ask? :P

First, I LOVE your dog! She is such a little cutie! Second, I feel like this post ALL the time. Luckily, I am able to talk myself out of most of the crazy stuff I think up.

You can definitely re-wear that dress for New Years! Of course I wore a sequined top to work yesterday so my opinion might be skewed (my boss told me I looked like I was going to a party - and I don’t see that as a bad thing). :)

Go for it! You’re only getting married once (err hopefully) and you might as well play it up! You’re comfort is all that matters.

As for the dog. ahem. i have a Rottweiler you could have! Yes thats right! German and French! I smell perfection. . . .

Seriously, that dress is adorable. If I could I would donate to this cause. Ms. Octopus needs a new dress, can I get an amen people??
