I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. For the Love of Cheesecake

August 20th, 2010 @ 11:46 am by Mrs. Earrings

Choosing the desserts for our reception was something both Mr E and I looked forward to with anticipation. You might already know that we will be serving cupcakes as part of our “English Tea and Cupcakes” hour directly after the ceremony and before dinner. For dessert after dinner we figure people will have had enough of cupcakes and/or cake so we want to have something a little different.

We thought of various options; some of our favourites including getting the local ice cream truck to pay a visit or serving gelato in pretty little cups. But in the end, we both couldn’t resist the call of cheesecake.

And not just any cheesecakes.

We decided to save ourselves the time and energy and splurge on ordering them from one of the yummiest places in town: Chocolate Velvet. Doesn’t the name alone convince you that desserts from there will be mouth-wateringly delicious? Anyway, Chocolate Velvet specialises in beautiful wedding and birthday cakes, but their cheesecakes are also gorgeous and (bonus) within our budget.

Yesterday Mr E and I were dropped off in town to visit Chocolate Velvet and place our order. Unfortunately we didn’t realise until too late that we were dropped off in the wrong area which meant a very very very long walk for us until some kind old lady finally pointed us in the right direction. I think we were looking desperate by that point.

But when we got there, was it worth it? You betcha! The woman who helped us decide on cheesecake flavours and place our order was very easy and enjoyable to work with, and the range of flavors was overwhelming.

Eventually we did make up our minds, though. We chose to have six cheesecakes, each a different flavour, so as to take full advantage of Chocolate Velvet’s range.

  • Mixed Berry
  • White Chocolate Raspberry Swirl (Gluten Free)
  • Cookies ‘n’ Cream
  • Raspberry
  • Dark and White Chocolate Marbled
  • Chocolate Kahlua (Gluten Free)

Gosh, I’m drooling now as I write them down. We were even given a 5% discount for ordering so many which makes the deal even sweeter. I don’t know how I will choose which one I want to eat on the wedding day.

Did you decide to forgo cake for dessert at your reception and go for something different?

That’s the benefit of having multiple flavors to choose from, you can try more than one!

Hurray for cheesecake! We had plain cheesecake at our wedding in June and guests could choose chocolate, carmel, or berries for their topping. Everyone kept saying how fun it was to have something other than regular wedding cake!

Sounds amazing, I’m sure it will be a hit! We had a beautiful traditional cake at our wedding, but we complemented it with some delicious gelato from one of the most popular gelato joints in the city. The cake was chocolate with raspberry filling, and the gelato was raspberry. It was awesome, and provided something for our celiac best man to eat, as well as anyone who didn’t like cake or chocolate (if we had any guests like that, not that I was aware of them.)

Ooh we’re doing some of the same flavors (white chocolate raspberry, chocolate kahlua)! I’m so excited. It was a lot of fun picking out seven different kinds of cake. :)

Cheesecakes sound awesome! Hmmm, I may have to keep this idea in mind. Though I would demand a key lime cheesecake if we do that.

We had cheesecake buffet at our wedding!!! Thanks to my lovely sister who did it all! I think we had like 8 flavors and she hooked it up!!! It looked really pretty and people were drooling as they await for their chance to eat some. As we said our thank yous after we cut one of the cheesecakes, people literally attacked the cheesecake buffet! Good thing we had a short program.
I was worried that it might melt, but it wasn’t that much of a problem. One thing I learned from it, is bring to-go boxes. We had leftover and the only box we had was the original box it was in. Some folks only wanted few slices and couldn’t bring any.
Another thing is I wished I tasted them all.
