Butting In

August 23rd, 2010 @ 12:58 pm by Mrs. Starfish

After planning the wedding for so long, I’ve found so many amazing ideas. There are so many fun ideas that we just can’t use because they don’t go with our theme.

Since getting engaged ourselves, a few friends and family members have decided to tie the knot as well, and I can’t help but butt in. It’s a problem. My aunt was telling me about my cousin’s venue and she mentioned that they were sold when the venue mentioned having fire pits at the reception. As soon as I heard “fire pit”, I thought about S’mores and all the cute weddings I’ve seen with S’mores stations and kits.

I wanted to hold back, but I couldn’t help myself. As soon as my aunt said it, I said “they should do a S’mores station!”

Their wedding will be in late October or early November and all I could think about were cute little S’mores kits, S’mores favors packaged up, or a S’mores bar, like the one below.

Then, I started thinking of a shawl basket. I love when they have tags like “a warm thanks for sharing our special day” or “take a shawl and snuggle”. They’re so perfect to have waiting for guests by the fire.

But, I held back with the shawls. I worry that all these ideas will seem annoying to other brides who are newly excited about planning their own wedding, but if it’s a really great idea like the S’mores, I don’t know if I’ll be able to. I’m just hoping my best friend gets engaged soon and I can share tons of ideas with her.

Do you feel the need to share your new-found wedding knowledge with other brides-to-be? Do you think they find it annoying or helpful?

I’m doing a pashmina basket!! They are the winter equivalent of a flipflop basket for the summer :)

I find it helpful to hear advice and ideas. And I think you can tell from the vibe of the person if they want advice or not. Now I’m totally craving a s’more!!!!

I TOTALLY do this too! I think it’s actually a good thing that none of my close friends are engaged bc I would probably be micro-managing their weddings at this point!

If it makes you feel better, I’m having a fire pit and s’mores station!! So you can consider that your two cents has been input here ;)

I’m totally hoarding ideas for when the hub’s cousin’s boyfriend finally gets around to proposing. Seriously—I have a delicious tag called cousinswedding just waiting for him to grow a pair. Any day now…

My best friend is getting married 3 months before me which I thought would be great but she is the complete wedding opposite of me. She dislikes planning and thinking about the wedding and just really wants to be married. I have to stop myself constantly from butting in. It`s so hard though!

If we were allowed to have fire, I would have had smores at our reception in a minute. So delicious! As for wedding advice, I feel like I really want to give it, but I refrain unless I’m asked. I don’t want to come off as overbearing. Plus, I personally found my own discovery of these ideas very satisfying. I save my advice for the boards here when people are specifically asking for help.

I’m going to do smores at a bonfire on the beach after our rehearsal. I need to make these kits! They are adorable!

We had s’mores! People loved it, but a lot of them just stole chocolate bars and ate them, so make sure you stock up heavily on the chocolate.
