Rain, Rain Go Away

August 24th, 2010 @ 10:44 am by Mrs. Starfish

I have an irrational fear that it is going to rain on our wedding day. If it ends up being sunny and beautiful, I’ll be ecstatic, but until the wedding day comes, I’m certain it will be gloomy and rainy.

There is some thought behind this. Back in 2002 when I went to visit Salve for the first time, it rained. When I went back for my second time before accepting, it rained. When I went to freshman orientation, it rained. Then Mr. Starfish and I lived there for four years—some days it rained, some days it didn’t. Flash forward to 2008, when Mr. Starfish and I headed to Newport and Mr. Starfish proposed. It rained while we were there. I’ve had many rainy experiences in Newport.

I’ve decided if it has to rain on our wedding day, at least I’ll be prepared. Although I’m not a fan of rainy wedding days, I am a fan of cute umbrellas for the wedding party.

The weekend Mr. Starfish proposed, we stopped by the Salve bookstore and I picked up an oversized Salve umbrella for our wedding day, just in case. It’s somewhat similar to the umbrella the couple is using above. Then, on a recent shopping spree, I found some cute umbrellas for the bridal party.

If we’re going to be wed in the rain, at least we’ll do it in style.

Did you make any special preparations in case of rain on your wedding day?

Yeah, it rained on our wedding day, up until the reception. Totally ruined my ideas for pics outside, but what can you do?

Yes, it rained and my mom even went our and got a super-cute Monet sunflower umbrella for us to use (since yellow was one of our colors) but then no one gave it to us and so we never used it! So sad…I like pretty umbrellas in photos tho, yours will be super-cute!

Clearly rain is a good thing!! It must be good luck for you. Even if it does, those photos are adorable.

My friend got married at a small island in Greece, and OF COURSE, it rained the whole time we were there… But they got us ALL umbrellas, and the pictures looked stunning!

Said that, I’m also convinced (and terrified) that it’ll rain on my wedding day. It’s at night, so we really can’t pull off cute pictures with umbrellas…

Our first “official” date was in Newport. That little city has a big place in my heart. Rain or no rain, your day will be wonderful and romantic, just like our Newport.

If it rains we’ll get a tent. I also want one of those cute frog umbrellas, like this: http://www.nhmshop.co.uk/kids-soft-toys/frog-umbrella/product.html

it poured on our wedding day, and we had no contingency plan. thankfully it wasn’t in any important parts. the weather was considerate in that respect. :p

I don’t think it’s irrational to be afraid of it raining in New England. Actually, I think that’s the most rational fear you can have ;-) (**stares outside at gloomy day**). Definitely stock up on cute umbrellas, and remember that dramatic sky + ocean = AMAZING photos!

Great idea - I should definitely go out and get some umbrellas just in case. Maybe I should splurge on fancy ones - the more I spend, the less likely I am to need them!!

Miss Starfish - I went to Newport for the first time this past weekend, for my bachelorette! SO fun and I can’t believe I have never been before - I will definitely be back. What a great place to go to school and to get married!

I love those purple umbrellas. Luckily we have a covered pavilion, so we can party rain-free if it happens to bless us with a storm or something. And I’m already wearing boots and a short dress, so I guess I’m covered! :)

@Miss Glasses: that would make for good photos!
@crayfish: I know! Today makes me feel like it was a good idea to get umbrellas.
@eeper: I got mine at Marshalls, they were super cute and a great deal. A Newport Bachelorette sounds awesome, there are so many fun things to do!
@Lhammond: Thanks! Our first date was there too!

Our ceremony and cocktail hour and planned for outside and the reception in a tent…I’m freaking out that it will rain!!!
I envy those brides that suck it up and put on their cute rain boots. I know I’ll be devastated if it rains :(

12 days until the big day which means in 2 day I can check the 10 day forecast! I’m sure I will obsessively check it after that haha!

I actually love the look of umbrellas in wedding pics! If it does rain, there are some great picture opportunities that you wouldn’t otherwise get!

We are spending an arm and a leg to get a tent, just in case it rains. We’re almost hoping it will just so that it’ll at least be worth it. LOL

I will be RAIDING bellaumbrella.com’s rental section! I’m a New England bride, too, and I just do NOT trust those skies.

I’ll cross my fingers for you that it won’t rain on your big day! But at least it sounds like you’ll be well prepared!
