Ladies and gentlemen, a momentous occasion! I was in a bikini recently; I haven’t been in a bikini since high school. No more hiding behind big t-shirts, muumuus, and one pieces at the beach anymore.

I’m still not happy with my tummy; I debated for a long time about wearing a bikini to the beach this summer. I think I’m still a bit soft, and I jiggle a little (which is totally gross, and I can’t believe I just admitted that). But part of weight loss is about being comfortable with your body—I was totally ashamed before.
Hive, I’ve lost a good amount of weight in the past six months. I am visibly skinnier, and I keep shrinking in a good way! I’ve lost all my back fat and side-boob fat and gained muscles in my arms. How did I do this? I stayed on a pretty strict 1,500-calorie-a-day diet and went to the gym three to five times a week. I used an online calculator to determine how many calories I should eat per day and stuck to it. Here’s the one I used in case you’re interested.
My before: this set of engagement pictures never saw the light of day before now.
I’m not going to go on a long-winded speech about weight loss. All I want to say is if you are on a weight- loss journey, or thinking about one, don’t give up. I was the last person anyone thought would sign up for the gym and start thinking about calories. It was hard to stick to a routine of working out and limiting portions. It was hard. I’m not gonna lie. But the results are worth it! I feel great! And, okay, I think this is something only other Asians will understand, but Asian family members can be way harsh on each other in matters of weight. All my life, my mom and aunties would see me and say “You’re fat. When are you gonna lose weight?” and then proceed to make fun of me over lunch. Well, I recently saw my auntie, and she looked at me in surprise and said, “…you’re thin. That is good.” Which, really, coming from an Asian auntie, is the biggest compliment a niece can get.
Going back to my last post, I lost three pounds last week while on the kanten diet. However, I don’t think that was due to the diet. I cut my portion sizes drastically and relied on kanten jelly to help me feel full. And let me tell you something—I was hungry! I think the kanten diet is all about the placebo effect. They tell you it makes you full, so you feel full. I never felt full, though. Maybe I’m just not eating enough or making it correctly in terms of proportions. But whatever, I’m gonna keep making the stuff ’cuz I know the fiber keeps you regular, and I do enjoy being regular.
My fitness goal was to look great for Mr. Glasses in a bikini (he likes bikini girls…) and, of course, be in tip- top shape at our wedding. As a girl that’s always been a bit overweight, I really wanted to wow everyone with my dramatic weight loss since I was last home almost two years ago.
I’ve still gotta keep working on toning and trimming my tummy. But I am so surprised and proud of myself for getting in shape.
