About Mrs. Plaid

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!

I surely do love me some pictures.

As y’all know by now, we’ve got an amazing photographer, Nathan Russell, booked to shoot our wedding day. However, he’s only one man, and he simply can’t be everywhere all at the same time that night. I’m hoping that all my camera-happy friends (you know who you are) will be there to get lots of candids of the reception and ceremony.

Now comes the question: how do I collect said photos from my many “photographers”? The last couple weddings I’ve attended, the couples have had little cards sitting out for guests to take telling them where to find the wedding pictures online. These cards I’ve seen have only pertained to the pro shots, but I want mine to include all pictures.

Enter, good ole Shutterfly. You can create a little website/share site where people can upload and order photos from a specific event. It’s perfect! I jumped right in and created a simple page for guests to use.

All that was left to do was figure out how to let people know that the share site exists. Enter trusty photo cards. I used one of our engagement pics, added some background and text in Paint.net, and ordered 80 prints from Shutterfly.

They came in the mail today and they’re perfect! I plan on uploading all the pro pics onto the share site once I receive them as well. I love technology. It’s so easy to share with people that don’t live right down the street.

How are you sharing photos of your special day? Are you just counting on pro shots, or do you think friends and family will have some valuable pictures too?

I have an iRave tutorial saved from another Bee actually, and am planning on using that. The only reason I went with iRave over Shutterfly is that I’m worried not everyone will upload pictures if they have to sign up for a service first. Anyway, I’m going to have some kind of card printed up and included with each place setting, as well as hopefully some extras piled by the bar and the guestbook and such. And then I’m going to hope and pray my friends get camera happy and are willing to share!

We’re using irave. All our guests have to do it email photos to our irave account or upload them to the site. Easy peasy!

We gave our guests 3 options and put a card at each place setting. They could email the photos to a picasa address, upload them using irave or send us a link to their album. Almost 3 weeks after the reception, 1 person has used the picasa option, 2 have used irave, and 7 have sent us their album or given us a cd (mostly close family). 10 people’s pictures and we had over 350 guests. I’m hoping that people just got busy with summer vacations (and well, life) and that we’ll eventually get the pictures. I’m just glad that we didn’t pay for a site or extra storage.

I’m still trying to figure out which site to use for this. With shutterfly, can they download the photos or can they only play to print them?

Our wedding was small enough that I figured I’d have an easy enough time keeping track of guests’ photos by watching what went up on Facebook, and I was right. One guest emailed us a zip file of photos which was awesome while we were waiting for our pro ones. Good idea.

Ahhhh technology. Making it so easy to share things these days! I need to look into setting something like this up. Just not now…. Like, later, or something.. Yes, this is something I’ve been procrastinating on. And you’ve just reminded me of that. Thanks, P! ;D
