It’s a Glorious Day for a Drive!

Wouldn’t you agree? No? Well too bad ’cause I’m sending a map your way anyways.

For those of you ladies who live in wedding blog land like me, I’m sure you’ve seen many of the awesome hand-drawn maps brides and grooms are sending out to their wedding guests. Check these out:

Aren’t they adorable? A definite must-have! So of course I decided I had to include one in my invitation suite (just because).

I started off by following a tutorial that suggested printing out a Google map of the area. Then I traced the simple highway and road lines to create my wedding map. However, after spending about an hour playing around with that technique, I decided I’m not a drawer and moved on.

No I didn’t give up. I DO NOT give up. I just moved on to a different method: my trusty Paint.net. Using the curved line tool, I just drew the general shape of the highways I wanted to include on my map.

Next, I started adding icons for the venue, hotel, the Plaid House, downtown, and various other locales around town. I also labeled all the roads and highways and threw a compass on the map for good measure.

So without further ado, I present to you my super awesome map:

Forgive my constant “tooting my own horn”-ness. It keeps me motivated to continuing DIYing if I think I’m doing an awesome job on every project. Please don’t judge.

This isn’t the last you’ll see of my map. Y’all are gonna have to wait until the invitation suite is complete to see my map in action, in its full glory.

Are you including a map with your invites? Did you do it yourself or have it commissioned?

That looks great! I tried to hand-draw one, and it looked terrible. I’m gonna try your method to see if it works out a bit better.

Thanks ladies!

@la boome: I really wanted to print it in postcard form so it would be glossy, but I got lazy and ended up just having it printed on cardstock at Office Depot. It came out very nice though.

SAN DIEGO!!!! I recognize that area ’cause I was there last year! LOL! talk about bringing back GREAT memories of chaos, costumes, and fun!

You did a great job with the map! I’m still debating adding that in, but I might… but only AFTER we go back to the venue again to test out our GPS to see if it works. (There is NO cell phone reception at our venue! EEK!!!)

Yes! We are also including a custom map…just because. I asked our etsy invitation person to create one for us, and I love it so far!
