Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

Prepping Myself

Prepping Myself : wedding napa Il 430x05 il_430x05

(source)

This is going to be my mantra for the next six weeks. When things don’t go my way, I’m going to GET OVER IT.

When guests don’t RSVP, I’ll GET OVER IT. If I don’t find my perfect sassy white reception dress, I just might have to GET OVER IT. If we can’t finish all the DIY projects I have planned, my guests will GET OVER IT. Nothing that will happen in the weeks leading up to our wedding will be so bad that we won’t be able to GET OVER IT. I’ve learned that when I get over something, it frees up a lot of energy to focus on what’s happening as I move forward. Easy to say now, right? :)

Are you currently living by a mantra when it comes to your wedding? What is it?

My current mantra is: I don’t even care anymore. Previously it was: Why are the families trying to make me miserable?

Mine was “just go with it” and it worked well.

Mine was: “It is what it is.”

i’ve been using “get over it” at work a lot recently. more specifically, “build a bridge and get over it.” i tell people (mostly myself) this at least twice a day.

I recommend the OK Go song by the same name: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Tl-c1PusrM

Very cathartic.

Some few weeks before our wedding, I adopted the mantra “Who gives a shit just pick something” for decisions I’d been putting off because I couldn’t make up my mind or whatever other reason. That helped! And prevented me from spending forty dollars on a guestbook pen at one point too, simply by serving as a “Have you gone completely batshit insane yet, check yes or no” point.

haha right now mine is “it’s not my problem.” It is the only way I can avoid taking on everyone else’s stress and problems as well as dealing with my own!

My favorite matra leading up to the wedding was “It’s not worth it. No one will notice but me.” As in: “These program fans look nice, but kind of plain. Maybe I should hand tie tiny ribbons to each of the handles in a contrasting color?”

The correct answer is: “It’s not worth it. No one will notice but me.”

I’m going with: “you’ve got this” and the occasional “let it go”.

“It is what it is.” Very useful when my stationier printed, and my planner mailed, all my invitations with the wrong time printed on them…

@bakerysensei: Love “build a bridge…”

@LittlestBirds: I will think of that too. Just pick something!

@MsTerrapin: Absolutely. So many things that no one will notice is missing, unless of course I point it out. (Which I don’t intend to do.)

@tweds: Thats a big OOPS! Hope everything works out!!!

My wedding is still 9 months away, and I am starting to tell myself to “get over it” more and more. I also have had to realize who I can vent to about things…If it is fixable, I can totally talk to my fiance about it. If I just want to b****, I need to vent to a girlfriend. End of story. :)
