Brainstorm

August 25th, 2010 @ 1:14 pm by Mrs. Sand Dollar

Hive, I need a card box. It seems that our guests ain’t too tech savvy. We’ve had zero, count it, zero contributions to our honeymoon registry. And with us one month out from W-Day, I need to come up with a Plan B should guests decide to go straight for the source. So, what kind of card box should we use that will fit in with our day?

My first thought ran to a pair of boots. Cute, yeah? It would totally fit in, but we’d have to have a sign, of course. So, it’s on to the next candidate…

A chic, large lantern. How cute is this? I love this idea. And Ross is a prime source of giant lanterns on the cheap.

Or, we could use one of our super cute buckets. Most of them are being used to create support pole bases for the chuppah and our dance floor area, but I could spare a couple for a little card catchin’.

What are your ideas for creative card boxes? Hit me up, ladies!

That stinks that no one contributed to your honeymoon registry. We registered on Amazon.com along with BB&B and no one purchased anything form amazon. I would think people would like the cheaper prices and then free shipping if planned in advance.

we are using a small wooden trunk - about $10 from Michael’s with a 40% off coupon (originally 14.99). We’re just painting it and cutting a slot in the top. With your theme, you could stain it or make it a bit more rustic.

Maybe the biggest 10-gallon hat you can find would work (and be in-theme)?

Something like the lantern would be perfect- fits your theme, and the cards would not be easily accessible.

You just want to make it less easy for someone to sneak by and swipe a couple of cards- not that any of the people you know would, but it does happen! Especially since some people do give cash…

we got a very basic (green) photo card box at the craft store and cut a strip to put the cards in. I made a little sign that said “cards” and put a paper flower I made on it. that was it. It was cute and simple. just fyi make sure the whole is big enough for the largest of cards!

I love the lantern. Great idea! I bought a blue painted birdcage which fits in perfect with our colors and garden theme!

I made a pinata with a slit cut in the top. It was fun to tear open the pinata the next day.

I LOVE this idea! How cute! If I was having a fiesta I would totally do this in a heartbeat.

I don;t mean to get ruthless here, but at a friend’s wedding, someone made a sweet and subtle announcement that they were very grateful for all the contributions that had been made for their fund to buy a house… I think that helped to bring out a few more chequebooks that night from those that had forgotten…

For ours, McHusband hollowed out a log after cutting off the top of it. He stapled fabric in it and carved our initials on the side with our wedding date on the lid. It was awesome!

We used a little rustic branch basket that I decorated with a few organza flowers and it looked cute, could do something like that? *I’m a sucker for baskets…

I used a 9×13″ crate made from barnwood. We don’t have much barnwood available here in Los Angeles so I ordered it from etsy for super cheap and had the seller add a hinged lid. I fastened it shut with the clasp from my old diary. It worked pretty well and fit our ranch-themed wedding. Just a thought. :)

I love the lantern or boot idea. My only worry about a boot is that it might not be wide enough.

I got nothing. We aren’t doing one. But I love birdcages, however unoriginal they are!

I would recommend an open box if possible, in case there are presents as well as cards. But a boot might not be obvious to those from the other side of the room.

@Miss Glasses - I guarantee you that at least some of your guests will have brought envelopes and presents, and there will come a time in the middle of the reception when they are all coming up to you asking where to put them. It happened to me, so I quickly asked my BM to cover a cardboard box in wrapping paper which I happened to have with me. But much better to be prepared!
