I haven’t mentioned our flower girl yet (let’s call her M), because until a couple of weeks ago I wasn’t even sure she and her family could make it to the wedding. I met M’s mum (who we will call T) when I lived in Australia for a few years as a middle schooler. Her mum is about 8 years older than me, and gave me much needed encouragement and friendship during that time. I was lucky enough to be in Australia for M’s first year, and since then three siblings have been added to their family. Now, I’m not really a “kid” person…they kind of scare me. But T’s kids are different: I completely melt over them and love them to pieces. M is seven-years-old now, sends me frequent pictures she has drawn, and I’ve always had it in my head that I wanted her to be our flower girl.
M’s latest artwork: Me in a pink wedding dress…oh yeah, and it has my first name on it, too. Oh well.
Recently we found out that M and her family can indeed make the wedding, which gives me license to think about flower girl style! Fun, right?
This brings me to the title of this post: this is what T titled her Facebook message when letting me know that they were coming to the wedding. In the message was a photo of M all dressed up in the prettiest cream silk dress ever:
The little girl beside M is her baby sister (named after me! I love her
).
The dress is by Australian designer Leona Edmiston and when T saw it on eBay for $30 AUD she just couldn’t pass it up and bought it in case I happened to like it for our flower girl.
She knows my taste well! I love it and think M looks absolutely gorgeous in it (ha, she always looks gorgeous, but I’m biased).
With what shall we accessorize this lovely dress? For the answer I went back to Silver Pencils, who, if you remember, was the lovely lady who created wrist corsages for my bridesmaids. I asked her to make a headband for M with a flower that matches those corsages. Here is a reminder of what they look like:
The flower on the headband will just be a little smaller than the ones above. I’m still undecided on shoes at the moment (M loves running around in bare feet…that could be an option on the nice soft grass of our garden venue if she wanted that. I like the kind of hippie flower-child image bare feet conjures up). Basically, I’m just in my happy place right now knowing that one of my favourite families on the planet will be able to join Mr E and me as we say our vows to each other.
I will leave you with one more pic of M in her pretty dress (the first two pics and this one were all taken by T):
Are you having a flower girl? Do some very important bridal party members have to cross countries for your wedding?
