Mrs. Earrings's Picture
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
About Mrs. Earrings

I haven’t mentioned our flower girl yet (let’s call her M), because until a couple of weeks ago I wasn’t even sure she and her family could make it to the wedding. I met M’s mum (who we will call T) when I lived in Australia for a few years as a middle schooler. Her mum is about 8 years older than me, and gave me much needed encouragement and friendship during that time. I was lucky enough to be in Australia for M’s first year, and since then three siblings have been added to their family. Now, I’m not really a “kid” person…they kind of scare me. But T’s kids are different: I completely melt over them and love them to pieces. M is seven-years-old now, sends me frequent pictures she has drawn, and I’ve always had it in my head that I wanted her to be our flower girl.

M’s latest artwork: Me in a pink wedding dress…oh yeah, and it has my first name on it, too. Oh  well.

Recently we found out that M and her family can indeed make the wedding, which gives me license to think about flower girl style! Fun, right? :) This brings me to the title of this post: this is what T titled her Facebook message when letting me know that they were coming to the wedding. In the message was a photo of M all dressed up in the prettiest cream silk dress ever:

The little girl beside M is her baby sister (named after me! I love her :) ).

The dress is by Australian designer Leona Edmiston and when T saw it on eBay for $30 AUD she just couldn’t pass it up and bought it in case I happened to like it for our flower girl. :) She knows my taste well! I love it and think M looks absolutely gorgeous in it (ha, she always looks gorgeous, but I’m biased).

With what shall we accessorize this lovely dress? For the answer I went back to Silver Pencils, who, if you remember, was the lovely lady who created wrist corsages for my bridesmaids. I asked her to make a headband for M with a flower that matches those corsages. Here is a reminder of what they look like:

The flower on the headband will just be a little smaller than the ones above. I’m still undecided on shoes at the moment (M loves running around in bare feet…that could be an option on the nice soft grass of our garden venue if she wanted that. I like the kind of hippie flower-child image bare feet conjures up). Basically, I’m just in my happy place right now knowing that one of my favourite families on the planet will be able to join Mr E and me as we say our vows to each other.

I will leave you with one more pic of M in her pretty dress (the first two pics and this one were all taken by T):

What a gorgeous little girl! Our flower girl is our little girl Brooklyn. Here’s to hoping she behaves.. she’ll be almost three at the time of the wedding. Seven is a much better age as they know more what is going on!

Oh my goodness, she is darling. And I love the dress! I am not a fan of when the flower girl looks too much like the bride or too ‘done up’. They should look just like your flower girl will…pretty, but very natural and innocent. Great choice T!

I wish there were little girls in our family. I had my cousin’s sons as my ringbearer and “flower” boy. He had a bubble gun.

I love “M.” And that dress is incredible… I’m all for the bare feet, too!

@ jamiemichelle, my three-year old niece was one of our flower girls, and she sat rapt with attention during the 1-hour Catholic ceremony, and was better behaved than the older flower girls! I’m sure Brooklyn will be fabulous. And if not, some of the cutest wedding moments are courtesy of little ones, so as long as it’s not a tantrum, it’s all good! :)

Aw yay I’m glad it worked out and she is adorable. We were in the same boat as you, not doing if FI’s neice would be able to make it and sadly she can’t :( Breaks my heart :(

Both little girls are just precious! I know how it feels to love & gush over little ones you’re lucky to have in your life. My niece (will be 4 for the wedding) is our FG and my nephew (will be a little past 2) will be RB. I used to be bummed FH and I waited a while to get married now I’m thrilled because I get to have the sunshines in my life in my WP. I don’t even care if they make it down the aisle “properly” … whatever they do is fine by me (no crying I hope!). I am SUPER excited to get awesome pics with them.BTW… barefoot ideas seems cute esp. if it fits with your theme & grassy venue!

What a cutie pie! We recently found out our ring bearer will be able to come. I’m sure his parents will put him in something cute because I can’t be bothered to look for anything. That headband will be adorable on her!

when i got married 3 years ago i had my two neices ages 12 and 9 as my flower girls.since there were no little girls in our families i asked them if they would be little flower girls and they said yes, that it would be fun to be little girls.i got them identical poofy, above the knees white dresses with head wreaths.they had the lace anklets with shiny white shoes.to make them feel more little girlish,i had them each wear a cloth diaper with ruffled plastic pants over it.they looked very cute and adorable and many people thought their diaper and ruffled plastic pants were especially cute.
