Pre-Wedding Chop: A Contemplation

August 25th, 2010 @ 1:48 pm by Mrs. Plaid

That’s right. I said PRE, not POST. That means before the wedding. You probably think I’m crazy, but let me rewind a minute.

I always thought I’d be a long-haired bride. I’ve been growing my hair out since last August, and it’s a couple inches past my shoulders now. (You see, I’m a Gemini and have to constantly change my mind and the length of my hair.)

I’ve been trying to find hair inspiration pictures for long hair and just can’t seem to find any that I love. I want a retro up-do to go with the feel of my dress and jewelry, but nothing’s right.

Lately I’ve been thinking about chopping my locks off.

Haha, not that short. Gotcha! I don’t have the guts to go that short. I’m thinking more like this.

I’ve had my hair short before, and Mr. Plaid actually likes my hair better short; so it’s definitely a possibility. If girls can add extensions to their hair on their wedding, why can’t I take some length off mine? Check out some of my short-hair inspiration photos.

What do y’all think? Should I just say “screw the long hair, I’m going short,” or should I stick with the long hair so that I have more options? Would any of y’all ever cut your hair before the wedding?

Arrrr! Decisions decisions! I would opt for long hair, you can always chop if you really wanted to… even if it’s just days before (gasps)… I dunno… with longer hair you have more option. Either way, it will be cute. Keep us posted!!

I say (chant) “CHOP, CHOP, CHOP!”. I think it’s really refreshing to say shorter hair brides and the inspiration pictures you posted are FAB-U-LOUS! Plus, it’s an added bonus that your guy likes it shorter. ;)

I LOVE shorter hair brides. If you want it, do it. The hair length won’t matter unless you want a very specific style. Then again, the styles you posted really require shorter hair. I love that there are no rules in today’s world. Can’t wait to see what you choose.

Hmm… obviously I dont know what kind of hair you have, the inspiration pics look great but will you hair have that much body and hold the curl like in those photos? From your bee picture it looks as if your hair is pretty straight, but that might be from a flat iron.

My vote is to not cut, but if Mr. Plaid likes it short and you do too then chop chop chop!

As a short hair bride to be, I vote short! Although, I will tell you, finding inspriation pics of short haired brides is really hard! If you decide to go short, please keep sharing those pics!

I think that short hair is so refreshing and modern! Also you don’t have to worry about your updo coming down or bobby pins poking you. And you can do SO much with short hair (glam waves, headband/headpiece)

Can you try a hair trial first to see how you like it with long hair and then chop it if you’re not feeling it? Just a thought.

I think for the first inspiration picture, your hair is about as long as hers. Don’t forget, for curled hair, it gets a lot shorter bc of the curl! I vote to wait until after the wedding bc you can always go shorter but if decide you want more length, you’d be outta luck…

If you like your hair short, go for it! For the Reese pic, your hair would only need to be taken up a couple inches. But hey, my hair is longer now than it was at my wedding almost a year ago by a lot (at the wedding it was probably a few inches - when curly above my shoulder and it’s a good six inches longer now.) I actually pulled the Drew Barrymore pic as an inspiration, but it was too rainy and drizzly on my day to put fingerwaves in. Go for it! I’m tired of people feeling the need to grow out the hair for the wedding. It’s your wedding, do you!

I’m in the same boat. I’ve been growing my hair out since our engagement (a year ago) and now I’m so sick of it!! I think I’m going to just tough it out so that I can truly have more options, especially with updo’s.

I say cut away! Your inspiration pics are way cute, and I think you have a great face shape for a shorter style. My guy likes my hair short, too, but I’ve decided to grow it anyways :-p Do whatever is going to make you most happy and comfortable!

You can always do a faux bob like the ones on this link if you don’t want to cut it.

http://www.bowiebride.com/2010/03/i-am-faux-sho-faux-bob-bride.html

I used to do it all the time for work! I love the look of it and in the end I still have all my hair.

I would hold off if you want these styles. These are pin-up bobs, meaning that hair has been curled, tucked and pinned under. You have the full feeling and stronger hold with the added length. Just my two cents.

I was so excited when I saw the crop :)
I love short short short hair, haha.
I think you should cut it to where you want it! It’s silly to grow it out just because that’s what you’re ’supposed’ to do.

Go for it! I’m a pixie cut bride and with all the hair flowers and headbands available these days, I am confident I’ll feel just as feminine and gorgeous as I’ve always imagined — with the haircut that I love, that is way more *me* than longer hair. I say, go with the hair you love for everyday… you can make any hairstyle look awesome on your wedding day.

I love short hair, but I agree with trail mix that your hair isn’t much longer than the inspiration photos once you add the curl! I vote for waiting, but that’s just because I know if I were in that situation, I’d cut it and then end up regretting it!
