Colors & Theme

August 25th, 2010 @ 5:32 pm by Mrs. Elephant

When it came to picking wedding colors, I knew that I would stay away from colors such as pink or purple simply because Mr. E is not a fan of them. We talked about it shortly after we were engaged and decided that the best way to make the wedding about us would be to use our favorite colors: blue & green.

Our bathroom is in the beachy blue and green colors which led us to our “theme.” My family has always loved to travel, and that was one of the things that Mr. E found interesting when we first started talking on Match.com. Since we’ve been together, we’ve been on wonderful trips to San Antonio, Las Vegas, Philly, New Orleans, Disney, a Caribbean cruise, and more. We decided that if we were going to have a theme to tie in to the reception and some of the paper products, travel would be perfect. Here is a picture of a cake that sparked my travel-theme interest.

We’ll be incorporating the theme and colors into our paper products, the bridesmaids’ dresses, the groomsmen’s ties and (hopefully) socks, flowers, and table names. I’m really excited to get to work with these colors and theme, as is our planner who said that she has never done a wedding in our colors before!

What colors did you chose for your wedding? Did your FI give his opinions on colors?

Those are gorgeous colors! Tying into your theme we ventured into the wedding cottage and saw the neatest idea using old maps, they made full circle folded paper fans and hung them from the windows with pretty bows in the middle. It doesn’t sound as cool as they were while I’m trying to explain it though. LOL I love that cake too!

My colors were royal blue (ok, I called it “UCLA Blue”) and lime green - I got a lot of the same comments about never seeing those colors together before…

I built our theme around the concept of grass. :)

Love that cake! Both of us really like navy blue, so that is definitely one of our wedding colors.

Great colors, Ele! Mr. B and I combined our favorites and that’s how we came up with the Violet, Charcoal, Slate combo!

The bright colors look great! We are having a fall wedding, and I wanted to steer clear of traditional fall colors so I went with navy and charcoal, but decided I needed hot pink too (ya know to brighten it up:))

Ooo! I love travel-themed weddings! Mr. G and I go abroad at least once or twice a year, we are definitely gonna try to figure out a way to incorporate that. Can’t wait to see your ideas!

These are going to be very similar to our colors. I wanted to go with a brighter shade of blue (like a turquoise) and the bright green, but we ended up with royal blue and haven’t quite decided on a kelly green or a lime green.

@Kelly - We really loved these colors (in the picture) but found it harder to actually find everything in those shades so our colors morphed more into a royal blue and lime green.

@lynnmichelle: Yay! It’s going to be a fun 8 months to go :)

Go blue and green weddings! Our colors were navy blue and apple green. Just a tip: pick your green carefully! I found green paper that I absolutely LOVED at Paper Presentation and Paper and More but then it was sooo hard to match that green to anything else (labels, ribbon, wraps, etc). Most greens are sage or chartruese and the green I picked wasnt either. Ties werent a problem to find but I just could not find any green socks! Hopefully you’ll have better luck than I did.

Wow We must think alike! That’s my same ring!!! and my bridesmaids are wearing “Clover” for their dresses. It’s a bright green from Bill Levkoff.
