Mrs. Barrettes's Picture
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor Engagement Date: November 16, 2008 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: V. Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
About Mrs. Barrettes

When I last left you regarding my BM dresses, I was leaning toward everyone having a different dress. But in the back of my mind, I knew I wanted my two cousins to wear the same dress, and this purple pretty was the first inspiration photo I sent them. Cut to eight weeks to the wedding: I found almost this exact dress at BCBG: two of them, one in each BM’s size!

(Me modeling the BCBG dress to BlackBerry message to my cousins.)

BM Lisa found this dress on her own, and it’s super perfect for her (the mannequin is bigger than her; it will zip). As for BM Amy, we’re still looking. I wanted to shy away from everyone wearing the same color, but that is the direction we are heading. Amy and I both liked a silver dress that she put on hold, but now it won’t really go with the other dresses:

So now I’m thinking about asking Amy and Lisa to wear a charcoal gray or black dress so they will offset my cousins’ purple bow dresses. OR, I do the nice thing and keep Lisa in the dress she already bought and have Amy find something purple.

What do you think? Everyone in purple, or two in purple, two in dark gray/black?

i LOVE LOVE LOVE the purple dresses. My BM’s all wore different red dresses from BCBG and Bloomingdales. Everyone’s jaw dropped when they walked down the aisle. I think different dresses in similar colors looks very dramatic. Seriously, it was the talk of my wedding.

First off, I can’t wait to see you in your wedding gown, you are very pretty! Secondly, I like the silver dress… BTW, I’m bad with colors, I know some will say the silver and purple don’t go together but nyeh, I like it :)

I would stick to all purple, especially if one already bought a purple dress, I wouldn’t ask her to buy another one in a different colour! I LOVE the purple bow dresses!!!

BM Lisa’s dress is super cute. I say keep them all in purple, but different styles!

I say stick with the same color, but have everyone wear a different style dress. However, my opinion may be slightly biased…that’s what I’m doing! All my girls ordered a different Bill Levkoff dress in euro navy. Loooove them!

I agree! I love the first three dresses (and Amy’s silver dress for the record) but I really like the idea of them all being in purple. It’s such a gorgeous rich color, and the first three dresses are all so perfect! Amy looks like she will have no problem finding a smokin’ hot purple dress to go along with the rest :)

PS - is Amy a dancer, too? Why do we all do the token hand-on-hip-toe-dig pose? Or stand in releve’ 5th?! I always do that when I don’t have heels on with a dress, too funny!!

I must say that I am loooving those two purple dresses! So stylish! However, your decision should depend on the way YOU want your bridesmaids to look. Don’t settle for something other than what you want to make others happy. It’s your wedding. Your friends and cousins will be happy to make you happy!

LOVE the purple dress… and don’t let ANYONE tell you purple and silver don’t go together! THEY DO!!! (go look at jewelry; silver and purple DO go together ex: amethyst with silver chain/setting…)

If you could find a GREAT silver dress for the fourth in the group, that would be awesome! Not only would it be different, but it would offset the purples in a very romantic and gorgeous way!

I vote to keep the silver dress too! Whether you have one or two, it would look great. So let your last decide between purple and silver, and you’re going to have some smokin’ bridesmaids next to you!

I really love Lisa’s dress! I wouldn’t ask her to change it. Could you put a purple sash on Amy’s? Or does it come in purple?

I love all the dresses. I say choose the colors you want at your wedding. If you want purple, have the other two girls find a purple dress in another style. But if you do like the silver or charcoal color, you could stagger the colors.
One cousin in Purple, Amy in silver, Other cousin in purple, and Lisa in silver. I think that would look really pretty! :)

I love the purple dresses! My vote is for all of them in purple, maybe just different shades of purple. I think they would look fabulous!!! Also I like @jordynroses suggestion of a purple sash. :-)
