Just Mauied: Marrying Your Dad

August 26th, 2010 @ 8:13 am by Mrs. Dolphin

Okay, so this post isn’t really about marrying your dad, but the title caught your attention, right?

I’ve been told many times that little girls grow up and find someone like their dad, then marry them. This  probably explains why Mr. Dolphin and Dolphin Dad get along so well; they are so much alike. They both hatch up crazy ideas (that often are really incredible), can fix any electronic/mechanical device, can whip up yummy food in the kitchen, are super smart and have an entrepreneurial spirit, and can strike up a conversation with ANYONE about ANYTHING. Both are excellent at public speaking, both are the first ones to purchase that hot new gadget on the market, and both can talk websites/media devices/gators/inventions for hours. I love them both with all my heart.

All this makes these next two pictures extra special to me. My two most anticipated moments on our wedding day were Mr. Dolphin seeing me for the first time (our first look is coming up in an entry soon!) and my dad seeing me in all my bride-ness.

I love Dolphin Dad. Doesn’t he look very Bond-like in his tux? :)

This moment was excellently captured by Amy of Starks Photography

So, if little girls grow up to marry people like their dads, who do little boys grow up and marry? Women like their moms? What do y’all think? Did you marry someone like your dad or like your mom?

And in case you missed it, this is what has happened so far:

There are quite a few similarities that my husband and father share but I see it being more my dad was able to gain a son that he never had. After we had been dating for a few months my husband said that he didn’t want to be with someone that is like his mom…I later found out his mom was unfaithful and lacks some importand morals!

Aww papa d looks so happy! And yes, very Bond-esque. I think Mr. G is like my dad in ways that sound mean but are actually nice so I won’t mention them here (I’ve both heard them say “Whatever you want, darling,” repeatedly.). Without getting to Freudian, yes I do think boys grow up to marry someone like their moms.

I think my Dad went for Bond too! As for marrying someone like my Dad, I totally think that there’s a lot of similarities between McHusband and my Dad. They both can figure out how to do anything. It’s awesome.

Your dad looks so dapper! I think there may be some similarities between Mr. E and my dad, but not a ton.

my mom and I joke ALL THE TIME about how much my guy and my step-dad are alike. The upside is that they get along so well, but man they are double trouble together! haha, oh well. . .

I love your hair! That’s almost exactly how I had mine styled. Good choice. :)

My husband is very similar to my dad in some ways, and very different in others. I got the best of both worlds. There are personality traits of my dad’s that I’m not very fond of, and those are the ones my hubby does not possess.

Nope. I’m one of those few who had a love for scoundrels (my dad does NOT fit this bill, though he WAS a troublemaker in his youth, lol… just not the way my FI was… hehehehehe)

As far as I can tell: they are nothing alike. And, considering my dad and I never got along till just recently (long story), it’s not surprising I kept away from anyone even remotely LIKE my dad! lol!

I know, I know, I’m one of the few, but I DID get what I always wanted in a guy…. and a few great bonuses!

There are a lot of similarities between Mr. FF and my dad, and they’re all good. Well, except for the times I’m frustrated and say “That is EXACTLY something my dad would do!” :)

Dolphin Dad looks pretty good in his tux! My FI and Dad share a few similarities, but overall they are pretty different.

This summer we spent 7 weeks with my FIL’s and it was very strange how much I am like my FMIL. I however think my FI is much more like my grandfather then my father!

@Miss Glasses: Mine is the same!!! “Whatever you want” lols. Mr. D does share a few of Dolphin Dads traits that I don’t like too much, like talking super loud all the time. I’m’ always lightly touching Mr. D and saying “Your voice.” He knows he talks loud and fast, so I actually kind of find it cute, especially when he immediately talks softer after I touch him lightly. Love him.

Thank you for all the sweet Dad comments. He sure does look dapper. I love him so much!!!

My mum tried (and succeeded) to marry the exact opposite of her father. By my Mr E is very very similar to my father! Scarily similar sometimes…

I feel like my FI and dad are SO similar. When I met my FI he reminded me a lot of my dad, so I immediately fell in love with him.

I wouldn’t say I’m like his mom really, but who knows!

Awww, your dad looks so cute in his tux!

But thank goodness Mr. C is nothing like my own dad! That might be one of his best qualities ;)

Mr. Buttons is eeeeerily similar to my dad on many many levels. It kind of freaks me out a little bit, but hey…I love my dad, so it makes sense ;)
