Vamos a México!

August 26th, 2010 @ 10:06 am by Mrs. Plaid

I’m sorry, you don’t speak Spanish? Yeah…me neither. I used Google Translator to write this post title. Basically…WE’RE GOING TO MEXICO FOR OUR HONEYMOON!!!

We are staying at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa Resort in Puerto Morelos. We found this resort in an article written in Travel + Leisure.

Luxury travel agent Natalie Nevares likes the little touches at Ocean Coral & Turquesa: ‘Chaise lounges studded with air jets are built right into the children’s pool, so parents can sit in the water with a pina colada, enjoying the bubbles and watching the kids play all day,’ she says. Opened in late 2007, these side-by-side oceanfront resorts are still sparkling new. Guests share six restaurants (including a tapas bar), a spa, four pools plus a children’s pool, and a lovely stretch of palapa-shaded beach that boasts the world’s second-largest barrier reef right offshore. And because the resorts are just 15 minutes from the Cancun airport, you can catch an early flight from the U.S. and be swimming in the Caribbean before lunch.”

We will be staying there for six nights/seven days, and we cannot wait! We will be staying in a Privilege Junior Suite with an ocean view. The room has a two-person jacuzzi, private balcony, aromatherapy candles, and much, much more! And because we signed up for a Privilege Suite, we also get preferred seating at the restaurants; a special lounge equipped with Wi-Fi, hors d’oeuvres, and drinks; and access to a private beach.

I’ve also already found a couple activities we can do outside the resort. I’ve always wanted to go zip lining, and what better time than on our honeymoon! It’s on a nature reserve called Boca del Puma. There’s a half-day tour that starts out with a one-kilometer bike ride through the jungle (where we might see wild animals!).

Then you get harnessed in, and you get to soar through the treetops on a zip line…

Vamos a México! : wedding austin honeymoon Bocal2 …and you finish the day off with a visit to two cenotes, which are large, deep, open-water pools in the ground.

We’re also interested in going to the Little Mexican Cooking School. They feed you breakfast in the morning and then spend the day teaching you how to make authentic Mexican food, including guacamole and salsa. They also serve local beers and sangria, to, you know, “aid” in the cooking process. And you get to take home a cookbook and souvenir apron. Doesn’t it just sound to die for?!

Are you as excited for your honeymoon as we are?

None of these places are paying me to speak about them. I’m just very excited about all of them!

Awesome! I want Mr. G’s British booty to understand Mexican food and culture.. growing up in L.A. it’s always been around me, and I’ve gone across the border quite a few times. I really, REALLY want to take Mr. G to Mexico. Everything looks great, you should do the cooking school! Have a good time!

Definitely do the zipline/cenotes excursion! My fiance and I did that a few summers ago. It was amazing! You should totally climb the pyramids while you are there, too. We went to Riveria Maya, Mexico.

I’m so happy you posted this. I want to have my fiance read it. For some reason everyone around him (co-workers, step-dad, etc) keep telling him that we would be crazy to go to Mexico for our honeymoon, because of all the drug cartel violence, etc that are occurring down there. I have no issues with going to Mexico and don’t believe that we would have a problem. I think you get an incredible value for the money you spend. Our honeymoon plans are still up in the air…we’ll see where we decide. Hope you have a wonderful time!

Be careful on the Ziplines. I was injured At Selevatica on the zip lines last November. It had rained so the lines were super fast and it was looking like it was going to strom, so they were rushing. I was sent down a line too close to the previous person and I couldn’t stop in time. They are supposed to catch you if you don’t slow down enough, but the guy wasn’t in position due to unhooking the other person and I slammed into a tree on the platform. My knee was badly banged up, my entire knee was purple, black and blue. Just be careful and ralize that safety is not handled the same way is it is here.

OMG Miss Plaid…that’s where WE are going TOO!!! We’ll be there in a short 25 days. Staying for a week and I can’t wait. We’re doing the Cooking School thing too! AND we upgraded to Privilege. We are having the same honeymoon! I’ve been using tripadvisor to figure out excursions. If you put in the name of the resort, it can show you activities nearby. How fun!!!

The hubs and I love vacationing in Mexico, especially resorts that are AI! You two will definitely have fun.

We had previously stayed at Le Blanc Spa Resort and for our up coming anniversary this September, we are treking over to Excellence Playa Mujeres Resort and Spa.

We ziplined with Selevatica, and personally, after ziplining thru four platforms, it became boring. Perhaps it was the scenery, which was mostly jungle and trees.

Zip lining is awesome! Another thing we did in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta) was go on a sunset sail. We ended up on a huge boat with out own personal margarita bringer/ tour guide who grew up in the town next to mine!

Hope you have a better experience than we did! We stayed at this resort last October overall it wasn’t bad but their customer service in the privilege club was horrific. Not worth the extra money we paid.

@ToBeMrs2011: I think as long as you mostly stick to the resort you’ll be totally fine. You know, don’t talk to strangers…haha.
@kayakgirl73: Thanks for the tip. I’ll be sure it’s not a rainy day.
@doublepuglove: OMG…you have to tell me how it is after you go. I can’t wait to hear!
@Miss Spaghetti: Oh no, I’m sorry your visit wasn’t great. Hopefully they’ve improved their customer service since last year.

there is also a place called explore that is fun, and this resort is amazing i have been there, another one i would recommend is Paraiso Beach, i have been to both, and paraiso beach makes it seem like your in Mexico, where Ocean Coral & Turquesa makes it seem like your actually at a resort. but i loved both of the trips.
