Mrs. Knitting's Picture
Mrs. Knitting, Toronto Age and Occupation: 24, Student Recruitment Assistant Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Neuroscience PhD Candidate Engagement Date: October 2009 Wedding Date: December 2010 Venue: University of Toronto Faculty Club About Me: I'm a pearl wearing, etiquette book reading Toronto girl who loves cooking and baking, museums, charm bracelets, and collecting books on Jackie Kennedy (a lot). I've been known to spend Sunday mornings at the antique market, Wednesday evenings at sister sushi dinners, and any bit of spare time reading. After six and a half years of many late night walks, watching DVDs together in bed, travelling to places like New York, and Tobermory, doing Sudokus together on the couch, lots of Indian food, the occasional yoga class, moving in together and so much more, Mr. Knitting and I are planning a cozy Christmasy (it's a word!), vintage wedding in Toronto complete with many DIY projects (eek!) and lots of help from our amazing group of family and friends.

Yum…That Is All: Part 3

August 26th, 2010 @ 1:47 pm by Mrs. Knitting

Ha ha, yes, I’m still talking about food today. I can’t help it. It’s so much fun looking at pictures of amazing food!

Every single wedding I’ve ever been to has been either in the afternoon or in the evening and has been followed by a dinner and dance. Our wedding is no exception, and I love this type of wedding, but I’m dying to attend a wedding that follows a different format. One of my top choices would be to attend a morning ceremony followed by a brunch. We actually considered this for our wedding for a while, but ultimately decided it wasn’t the best choice for us. I still think it’s a fantastic idea and would be so much fun. (Hint hint, all my friends!)

Mmm…brunch:

Brunch is very cozy and comforting in my opinion. Whether it’s meeting your girlfriends in a restaurant, snuggling at home with your SO, or, you know, at a wedding with 100 other people, brunch is pretty fantastic. Since I’m still talking about comfort food, I’m going to give you a run down on some comfort food that I would love to see at a brunch reception (or a morning-after brunch!).

Banana Chocolate Chip Pancakes

Pesto Scrambled Tofu with Grape Tomatoes

I currently have a bit of a pesto obsession, so anything with pesto looks amazing to me right now.

Sushi

I know sushi isn’t everyone’s idea of comfort food, but it’s definitely mine. I’m especially partial to the spicy salmon rolls from Tokyo Sushi in Toronto.

Avocado-Pesto Potato Salad

I told you I have a thing for pesto!

Scones with clotted cream and jam (preferably strawberry rhubarb or something involving ginger)

I realize these would be more appropriate for a post on afternoon tea, but I’m personally pretty flexible about what counts as brunch food. These feel brunchy (it’s a word!) to me today.

I also can’t forget to mention a few amazing brunch drinks.

Tea

I’d include a whole bunch of different kinds (chai is my current favourite) and serve them in adorable mismatched tea cups.

True story: when I asked Mr. Knitting for a suggestion for a comfort food brunch food he replied, “Cantaloupe!” really confidently and right away. I don’t think he quite gets the concept of comfort food. I also had no idea he had such strong feelings about cantaloupe…

What’s your favourite brunch comfort food?

I’m doing a Sunday jazz brunch wedding next year and theses are some great food ideas! FYI to anyone considering it, we’re paying less than half of what we would pay for an evening wedding for our brunch wedding.

We are having a Sunday wedding starting at 11:30am.
I want to have the ‘cocktail’ reception be a brunch theme - we are having a bloody mary and mimosa bar and I WANT to have mini-brunch items for the nibbles.
Not sure the place will be able to do that, but I was thinking that would be a great way to start the reception at brunch time,

Fried eggs, thick cut bacon, and some kind of lovely toast are my comfort breakfast foods. But my favorite breakfast food? Eggs benedict. Yum.

I had a brunch shower! Bacon, smoked salmon, rustic tomato tarte, cheese board, chocolate cake, fruit and champagne cocktails - it was heaven! Maybe a brunch shower is in your future?
