About Mrs. Plaid

God Bless Texas!

August 27th, 2010 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Plaid

Yeah, normally I don’t feed into the whole “Texas is the best state ever” stuff, but in this case I’ll say it loud and proud: “God bless Texas!”

Why God bless Texas, you ask? Well, they have these little places called fireworks stands. And by little, I mean freakin’ huge. P.S. If you’ve never been to a fireworks stand before (I’m from Jersey where fireworks aren’t legal), then you must go. Granted, it’ll be a bit overwhelming, but seriously, you have to see it for yourself.

OK, now what in the heck does this have to do with my wedding? Sparklers, baby! Around the Fourth, I headed to one of these stands and was able to pick up 130 sparklers for $20. That’s right. Twenty buckaroos, y’all! No, they’re not those fancy “wedding” sparklers, but they’re my wedding sparklers and they’re gonna be awesome!

And instead of explaining why I need sparklers at my wedding, I’ll just show you.

OK, so umm, if you don’t get it, then leave please. Haha, just kidding. If you’ve learned anything about me from reading this blog, you know what’s coming next…a little DIY project!

This was one of the easiest projects I’ve completed so far. The only thing I paid for were the sparklers. Everything else was stuff I had lying around from other projects! And it was nothing a little hot glue and some double-sided tape couldn’t handle.

Now y’all just have to keep your fingers crossed that we don’t have a burn ban in effect come October.

What are you planning for your sendoff? Do you think there’s a chance the sparklers will singe my dress? (Eeek!)

Awesome! Just make sure someone hands them out as only two people used my bubbles (my first finished DIY project, so yes, I’m a little bitter. They had cute ribbon on them that said “Happily Ever After”). Moving on, sparklers are awesome!

Amen! God bless Texas! I hear you on those firework stands…they’re enormous! And I love a good sparkler exit. I’m considering doing one too, but I had an unfortunate incident a few years ago involving sparklers and some of my hair… soo…

Can’t wait to see your exit!

I am hoping to do a sparkler send off as well. I should probably stop by the sparkler store that is right down the road from me. I had that same question about the sparklers and my dress.

Super fun. Wish I had taken advantage to get me some sparklers too! Such a cute way to end the night. But I have to admit, the thought of organizing 200 drunken guests into lighting them at the same time and not burning the place down made me think twice!

Fantastic Idea!

I’m actually leaning towards a night wedding just so I can use sparklers! I love your idea of the jars and covering the matches! I’m definitely putting this post in my ‘idea’ book so that I can remember to do this once I actually start my wedding projects!

From one Jersey girl to another - I totally understand what you mean about being able to buy fireworks anywhere you want - dont you feel just a tad bit like a rebel since you grew up with them being illegal here! I know that’s the feeling I get whenever I stopped at South of the Border and brought them home with me! :)

Yea for sparklers! We had them at our send-off and no fires (even with small children and slightly intoxicated adults). My only tip is that these regular sized sparklers burn FAST. Try to get folks to take more than one and to wait as long as they can to light them. We ordered the giant ones online but had a few of the regular-sized ones for the kiddies.

I wish I could do sparklers for my send off, I’m still struggling with ideas on this one. Can’t wait to see how this turns out!

We love this idea, too. We’re in Houston and a sparkler send-off is on my list. Love what you’ve done to arrange yours!!!

I HIGHLY recommend that you put your coordinator or your parents or a couple trusted people you know will be sober enough to coordinate this. You 100% do not want to give people matches at the same time you give them sparklers, especially if you have a group that is fond of the bar. Have people that know it’s their job to line people up and give them sparklers right before ya’ll come out.
