Mrs. Zebra's Picture
Mrs. Zebra, Providence, RI Age and Occupation: 24 Marketing/Costume Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26 Management/Firefighter Engagement Date: December 12, 2008 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: The Providence Biltmore About Me: I'm a small town New England girl with an affinity for procrastination, crossing the proverbial line, and putting her foot in her mouth. I'm a lover of history, all seasons, sewing and Incubus. I design costumes on the side for my old high school's theatre department, which is where I met my sexy man. Our motto for our Big Fat Lebanese/Portuguese/Irish near-300 person wedding is "the more the merrier"! We are marrying in a Catholic ceremony and are hammering out the details of our Victorian-inspired reception.
About Mrs. Zebra

Hallelujah!!!

August 27th, 2010 @ 2:04 pm by Mrs. Zebra

I really can’t go any further into my wedding-world plans with you until I talk to you about my savior. No, not Jesus…the utter hilarity of my Catholic ceremony will be a little later. (Get your seatbelts ready, folks! We’re in for a bumpy ride!) My savior is Sara! OMG, did I just use somebody’s real name? Yessum, and I will tell you why. She is in college majoring in event planning. She wants to be a wedding planner and is using my wedding as a portfolio piece. Sara, being a part of my own pro-bono-college-portfolio piece, was happy to return the favor. She is also a great dumping ground for all those brochures from vendors I decided not to go with.

**We almost died in Dorchester, MA trying to find this fabric. Any one of you ever driven the wrong way down a one way?

Sa has been with me from the super beginning when we started looking at venues. We have had some awesome times together. The only complaint I have is she keeps bringing Fat Food (McDonald’s) into my house and not gaining a damn pound! I jest. She does tempt me with those damn fries, though. Sa was the one there when I found my dress, we have discovered the wonder of Paper-Source together, and the venue hunt stories will soon come. She has put up and laughed at my ever-changing theme ideas and always keeps me motivated. Her mother is even helping us with our invitation embossing. Her brother, one of our best men, is affectionately called “boyfriend number two.” I’ve already made her clipboard for the big day (easiest DIY project ever!), and I am totally comfortable implementing a no-cell-phone zone for me on the big day because everyone will have her contact info. She be taking care of it all. She keeps me sane. Love her!

I had always wanted to hire a college student as a wedding vendor: photography, videography, etc. It didn’t matter. College students would be happy to do an excellent job for a few cases of Gansett, but I felt slightly more comfortable with a professional with contracts and contacts. I was afraid my photographer would get sick, and I would be pictureless. I’m super duper excited that Sara has fulfilled my college-student requirement of the wedding. After all, if she doesn’t show…I’ll guilt her forever. :)

Would you let a friend help out with your wedding so she could work on her portfolio?

Our invitations were done by a friend for his portfolio :)
I’ve also driven the wrong way down a One Way street on accident and came face to face with a 3 lanes of cars. Luckily they were at a red light and I was able to turn right before they got the green :-/

Haha I sat at a red light for like 5 minutes the wrong way with a whole row of maybe 8 cars looking at me. I didn’t get it until the light turned green and they all started honking! You guys could have alerted me before you started driving at me!
Living in SF, I think everyone’s done it once or twice :P

Sara’s most recent message to me:1. I have so much to read now with the website. 2. AWWW for writing about me in weddingbee :) 3. I am giving you until Tuesday to relax then back to the wedding chores ( ya i’m a bitch ) I am going back to school soon and my goal was to have the invites done before i went back so lets get on that shit! k bye

Yep. There would be no DIY if it weren’t for her motivation. :)

That’s an awesome idea Miss Z. I recently thought about doing the same - we can’t afford a videographer, but we have two flip video cameras and would just love some footage of some vows, toast - you know, the things that don’t quite translate as well in pics. So I’m looking for an art student. BTW, the dress is friggin’ fierce!

My photographer and videographer are both girlfriends of mine that are just starting out as well! I am taking a super relaxed approach to it but I know they’ll do a great job!

@OctPumpkin: You should post that up at the local art school’s board. We are close to RISD and I thought about advertising there.

I hired my groomsmen’s little sister to be our Day of Coordinator, she went to Johnson & Wales in RI for event planning and works for a caterer in Philly now. I swear i didn’t pay her enough for all that she did and made the day run smoothly. Plus most of the evening she was still able to enjoy herself as a guest.
