Mrs. Hippo's Picture
Mrs. Hippo, New York City/Dallas, TX Age and Occupation: 34, Event Planner for a Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Finance IT Engagement Date: August 8, 2009 Wedding Date: March 2011 Venue: Samuel Lynne Galleries and Marc Events About Me: I’m a thirty-something bride living in New York City and planning a modern-ish wedding in Dallas, Texas. I love trashy reality television (Jersey Shore, anyone?), online shopping, Sunday brunch, Central Park, and random celebrity spottings on the streets of Manhattan. While I love NYC, I miss good Tex-Mex, my college friends, central A/C, and being in close proximity to a Target. I’m thrilled to finally be planning an event that’s not work-related and to be marrying my best friend in what I hope will be a unique and personal ceremony followed by a reception with plenty of good food, good drinks, and dancing (regardless if it’s good or not).

Our Wedding Paper is Here!

August 31st, 2010 @ 5:51 pm by Mrs. Hippo

After ordering paper sample after paper sample, testing things out on my printer, and doing a million and one mock-ups, I finally committed to my invitation design and placed an order online for all the paper for my wedding—STDs, invitations, programs, and thank you notes. Even though I won’t need much of it for quite some time, I decided to order everything together to save money on shipping. I’m just thrifty that way!

Everything just arrived, and I am thrilled to pieces. Wanna see?

Sorry about the glare. I don’t want to unwrap it all yet!

Can’t you just imagine how all that paper might make something fabulous?!? After much research and comparison shopping, I ordered from two places—Paper and More and Cards and Pockets.
From Paper and More, I bought the bulk of the paper—dark blue metallic paper, pocketfolds, and envelopes for the invitation; pearl metallic paper and card stock for invitation inserts, STDs, and programs; and smaller-sized metallic envelopes for thank you notes and STDs. I love the shimmer of the metallic paper, and the card stock is really weighty but still goes through my printer. The one concession I had to make was that the envelopes have a square flap, instead of a pointy, triangular flap; but I love the color, and they were less expensive than other similarly colored, pointy-flap envelopes I found. To me, it wasn’t a huge deal, and if I can save a few bucks, I’m all for it.

After searching a ton of places for patterned paper that would work well with my invitation vision, I found Cards and Pockets, which has several patterns to choose from and will print them in any color you want. You just have to tell them the CMYK code. I chose the tile design printed on pearl metallic paper, so it matches everything perfectly. I ordered 4.75″ x 6.75″ patterned paper for the backing of the pocketfolds (how great is it that it comes in just the perfect size?!) and the belly bands and 12″ x 12″ paper for making envelope liners. They have pre-cut envelope liners on the site, but only for the pointy envelopes, so I will be DIY’ing those. One of my favorite things about Cards and Pockets is that it has a small business feel. I e-mailed a couple of questions before placing my order that were answered really quickly, and my order arrived with a personally signed note thanking me for my business. I know that seems so trivial, but small touches like that are so rare nowadays.

I’m so excited that everything arrived safely, not to mention that I LOVE it! It’s kind of overwhelming when you see it all just sitting there waiting to be made into something beautiful, but it’s exciting all at the same time. How did you feel when your paper arrived?

My dad does some work for C&P, and they ARE a small business! They’re so popular on weddingbee that we assume they are a big corporation but they’re not!

I’m glad you got all the paper you wanted…can’t wait to see how it comes together. I really liked Paperandmore.com as well.

YAY - - Hippo I used the tile pattern too and it looks amazing. I used it for the back in my gate fold as well as the envelope liner ;) You’re gonna love the look, no doubt! You commented on my silly cell pic but here are the rest of the pics which show the tile pattern :) http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/my-invitations-arrived-yipppeeeee-1silly-cell-pic

I love your colors. I was looking towards maybe doing a letterpress design for my invitations but I don’t know if I care enough… it will run me about $600 and considering that I think folks don’t keep them, I can’t justify the cost. Good job lady…I love the papers. Hope you don’t mind if I send you an email when I’m ready to do mine :)

Pretty! I love working with small and local businesses. The girl who did my invitations opened up her own business 2 years ago and she works out of her house nearby. Since the thought of DIY terrifies me I can at least feel good that I am supporting a small business owner!

I had asked for pointy envelopes way early in the process, and was disappointed that I got the straight edge ones….I noticed this only after I stuffed and sealed about 20 of them! So I guess it really wasn’t a big deal. :)

LOVE the colors! I also order our paper goods all at once, in advance from Paper and More. It’s still wrapped up until we begin the invitation assembly line!

@jackie-o: Oh wow… that IS the tile pattern! I feel like we have a very similar style! Love it!

@bRooklynRocks: Of course I don’t mind! I’d love to help with anything!

@photographernico: I’m not sure how far out I’m going to start. I may start the envelope liners and putting the pocketfold backing on pretty soon since I have the time now.

How exciting! You are a smart lady. We should have ordered all our paper in bulk beforehand because recently I had to send a thank you note for something purchased off our registry and we had no time to get to a card store and no nice paper in the house. I had to make something out of computer paper and origami and let me tell you, it was the ugliest offing thank you card you’ll ever see. It was embarrassing to send off. Oh paper, glorious paper.

ahhh I love the Stardreams Dark Blue from Paper and More! I’m about to make a big purchase from them. I’m using the SD silver pockets and SD dark blue to matte my invitation.
