About Mrs. Zebra

Surprise!!

August 31st, 2010 @ 8:16 am by Mrs. Zebra

I had a super wedding-chore day today!! Wanna hear about it? Well, I’m going to make the bouquets with FAKE FLOWERS!!  (Gasp!) That shit is expensive…but not as expensive as real flowers. So I made my way over to Michaels to buy the rest of the flowers because I’ve got to get something done. What did I find there, you ask? A giant bin of flip flops, two for $3. BWAH!? AND I didn’t have to fight the crowd at Old Navy? I’m Ron Burgundy?

Once I got inside the store, I notice all flowers are buy one get one free. Yahoo! The wedding gods are looking out for me today, for sure. I believe I’ve got all the fake flowers needed for the bouquets, but math isn’t my strong suit, so we will see.

The lady at the register told me not to worry about the initial total because it quickly reboots to reflect the sales. I stared at the register because I love me a good bargain, and $160 quickly went down to $100! Yowsers, I saved $60 by chance, stumbling upon a sale.

I was also able to call Julie’s Bridal to confirm the ordering of the bridesmaids dresses, and the shop owner listed all the dresses off for me. Now I can show you which dresses the girls picked out.

I also gave a call to the woman who was supposed to call me about the room block in February. I put my best sweet voice on and left her a voicemail about the room block. She’s British…so just listening to her voicemail made me happy.

I saw a ton of frazzled brides in Michaels with weddings within the next couple months. One of them struck up a conversation with me about her florist not listening to her. The sample bouquet she saw was not what she had asked for. I looked at her and said, “I was so nervous about that happening to me, I decided to make everything.” She looked at me like I had eight heads, but I’m betting that she wishes she had enough time to do it herself.

Don’t you love the new camaraderie you have with all the future brides out there? I love talking to other brides!

I hope you used a 20% off coupon! Bride magazine has 20% off your entire purchase coupons in this month’s magazine. Even if you didn’t - nice score!

I saved up buying everything for a 15% off everything day at Michael’s. It was awesome and McHusband was so happy with my savings, he didn’t question a single purchase.

Zebs, you crack me up with your Ron Burgandy references. And yes, Michael’s is by far the best store ever for brides (and anyone, really)! Good luck with the bouquets!

Just a note, if you are using Michaels to buy paper crafting supplies, they are very often available at Wal Mart at a much lower price. Michaels has an extremely high markup.

Ever since I got engaged, craft stores are my crack. And yes I stalk other brides I see out in public. I was waitressing the other day and saw girl come in w/ the same Wedding Binder/Planner that I have and so I had to go over there and be a psycho and stuff. She wasn’t even my table, but whatev. She knows how it is. (I hope…or else I just looked like a crazy person…)

Great Odin’s raven, you quoted Anchorman! Well done!

Anyway, I gotta go. I’m trying this new fad called uh, jogging. I believe it’s jogging or yogging. it might be a soft j. I’m not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It’s supposed to be wild.

I can’t wait to see your faux flower bouquet. Congrats for being savvy and scoring a great deal! You’re so wise. You’re like a miniature Buddha, covered in hair.

Oh God. I spent TOO much time @ Michaels during my engagement -I recognized it from the first pic. I was going to try to do silk Lily of the Valley for my bouquet, but no dice. They have great silk flowers @ Mike’s, but LotV isn’t one of them. Plus, you simply cannot beat that smell!

I love surprise deals!! I totally met a ton of brides on my many forays into the various craft stores, and believe me you, I hit ‘em ALL.

@Trishthedish36: I’m fighting the urge to call you a dirty pirate hooker. :) I need to buy that movie stat!

I accidentally moseyed on into Michaels today again. I hope Zeb doesn’t hate me when he sees what I bought. I just can’t help myself in there!
