Mrs. Scissors, LaGrange, GAAge and Occupation: 25, Photography & Graphic DesignFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Engineering Grad StudentEngagement Date: January 1, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Ceremony - First United Methodist Church; Reception - My parents' house!About Me: I’m a six-foot-three bride with a fifty-foot personality! I love great art, fabulous design, intense color, tons of music, indie photography, watching movies on repeat, and being really awesome. This super-tall, Southern, loud, quirky, neurotic artist is marrying a German, quiet, silly, super-amazing roboticist in an eclectic, funky, fun, snazzy, technicolored June wedding. Anything is game for this shindig, for it is all about us! We’re bringing giant paper cranes, six-foot-tall portraits, fortune cookies, a photo booth, a club-circuit DJ, handcuffs, and possibly a kidnapping to this small Southern town. Watch out, y’all, and try to keep up!
While we were fielding contact crisis 2k10, everybody meandered over to the restaurant to get set up. Read more…
Mrs. Zebra, Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 24 Marketing/Costume DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 26 Management/Firefighter Engagement Date: December 12, 2008Wedding Date: March 2011Venue: The Providence BiltmoreAbout Me: I'm a small town New England girl with an affinity for procrastination, crossing the proverbial line, and putting her foot in her mouth. I'm a lover of history, all seasons, sewing and Incubus. I design costumes on the side for my old high school's theatre department, which is where I met my sexy man. Our motto for our Big Fat Lebanese/Portuguese/Irish near-300 person wedding is "the more the merrier"! We are marrying in a Catholic ceremony and are hammering out the details of our Victorian-inspired reception.
Hokai so…you want to get to know who you are trying to get to know? I will give you the rundown of us (hopefully!) without the boring wedding website–esque vibe.
HIM
Zeb is the sexAY-ist man ever! He really enjoys a ruining a good picture with a silly face. His favorite things are his holey shoes, microbrew beer, occasional cigars, and sports. What drew me most to him was that he can see the good in people. I know! Boring, right? Seriously though, I’m pretty sure he does not have a single enemy. Not only does everyone gravitate toward his sunny attitude like flies on shit, but I’m pretty sure anyone he’s ever met would give him the shirt off their back if he needed it. He’s also amazingly athletic (according to his painfully un-athletic future wife). And mannnnnnn can he put down a cheeseburger, actually he can put down three to four in the time it takes me to enjoy half. Hopefully sometime in the near future we can add “fireman” to his resume without “volunteer” next to it. Very shortly he will start his shifts as an EMT. I might think I’ve died and gone to heaven if he rescued me. Hehe.
Mrs. Moonbeam, Los Angeles/San AntonioAge and Occupation: 26, Intern ArchitectFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Studio Analyst, aspiring ScreenwriterEngagement Date: May 20, 2009Wedding Date: November 2009Venue: Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (LaCoste, TX) and Mary Gray Events Center (Castroville, TX)About Me: I was born and raised in Texas, but after college I moved to Seattle for a couple of years and loved it. Then I followed my beau out here to LA and we're getting settled in. I've been making things since I can remember. I was raised by crafters. I love to sew, draw, paint, build, cook, bake (anything with a tangible end result is fair game). In that same spirit, I've been hosting since I was old enough to cook and set a fancy table. I kind of take after my grandmother, who believes that your morning OJ always tastes better out of the good crystal.
We made our way to the chateau exhausted and weary from our travels thus far, but we were excited and pretty amazed at what we saw as we pulled up.
The rest of the day was spent wandering around the chateau and the grounds just falling in love with everything, except maybe all the taxidermy (we’re talking giraffes, baby elephants, chimps, lions—it was ridiculous). Read more…
Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CAAge and Occupation: 29, DancerFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building ContractorEngagement Date: November 16, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: V. Sattui WineryAbout Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
This was it! It was time to walk down that beautiful grassy aisle! Our ceremony musician, guitarist Rich Barry, officially kicked things off by starting to play Sheep May Safely Graze (Bach), which Mr. GP and our officiant first walked out to, then Mr. GP’s parents together, then my mom escorted by Mr. Guinea Pig’s sisters.
Mrs. Seashell, Chicago, IL / Providence, RIAge and Occupation: 28, Marriage and Family TherapistFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Electrical EngineerEngagement Date: September 3, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: The Glen Manor HouseAbout Me: Fonts and fashion, stationery and Sundays, photography and french toast... the beauty is in the details for this fun-loving Chicagoan who loves to plan plan plan! The soon-to-be hubs plays "Mr. Fix-It" in our new condo while I swoon over beautiful, personalized stationery and choose shades of aubergine for my bridesmaids' dresses... and thus begins my new fairy tale! Skirting to the East Coast for our September nuptials where my home state of Rhode Island awaits with fall foliage, I'm just a few dress fittings and bachelorette party away from saying "I Do" to a very happy ending!
I recently made a request of my bridesmaids. With 5 girls living in 5 different states and knowing the general nature of travel, forgetfulness, or miscellaneous mishaps, I opted to hedge my bets on the possibility of something going awry. I hate to be a pain—or worse, a bridezilla!—but basically, I allowed myself a paranoid bride moment.
My request? Ship your bridesmaid dress to Providence in advance of the wedding. Track it, insure it, the whole shebang.
Why? Flights get delayed, canceled, re-booked, and bags get lost. If you’re flying in the day (or even two) before, you don’t want a lost bag arriving the morning of the wedding. Or after the wedding. Or whatever. Alternatively, because we all have our moments, you hang the dress outside your closet because it’s the one thing you have to remember, and it’s the one thing you forget to pack. It could happen.
Mrs. Plaid, AustinAge and Occupation: 26, Pastry ChefFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Cabinetry CarpenterEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Kindred Oaks, GeorgetownAbout Me: I am a Jersey girl born and raised but have since migrated to Texas and embraced its twang and Tex-Mex. I could probably eat chips and queso every day but instead I eat popcorn. I use the word “awesome” way too much but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I am addicted to all things DIY and am planning what I call a Texas-Chic wedding. I love snuggling with my two adorable dogs and of course, my adorable fiance. I can’t wait 'til I can call him my husband some day! October 2010, here we come!
That’s right. I said PRE, not POST. That means before the wedding. You probably think I’m crazy, but let me rewind a minute.
I always thought I’d be a long-haired bride. I’ve been growing my hair out since last August, and it’s a couple inches past my shoulders now. (You see, I’m a Gemini and have to constantly change my mind and the length of my hair.)
Mrs. Sand Dollar, HoustonAge and Occupation: 24, Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical TechnicianEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: MacLean ParkAbout Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
Hive, I need a card box. It seems that our guests ain’t too tech savvy. We’ve had zero, count it, zero contributions to our honeymoon registry. And with us one month out from W-Day, I need to come up with a Plan B should guests decide to go straight for the source. So, what kind of card box should we use that will fit in with our day?
My first thought ran to a pair of boots. Cute, yeah? It would totally fit in, but we’d have to have a sign, of course. So, it’s on to the next candidate… Read more…
Mrs. Argyle, St. LouisAge and Occupation: 24, Project CoordinatorFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, PilotEngagement Date: February 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Jewel Box in Forest Park and Windows on WashingtonAbout Me: I'm a true Midwestern girl (born and raised), lover of red wine, reality TV and the entire J.Crew catalog. I love to dance regardless of who is watching, and enjoy a good laugh with my girls. I have a soft spot in my heart for planet Earth, my two dogs and my fiance. Fall is my favorite season (which is why we are marrying in September), but I love a warm summer day and the Colorado mountains in the winter. We are planning a modern soiree downtown, with lots of bold colors, and fun, eco-friendly elements.
My bachelorette festivities kicked off with me knowing nothing other than to “wear a dress and bring your ID.” Thanks to those instructions from my fab MOH, I wore a dress, and brought a clutch I found at DSW (which held my ID and phone).
The night started at my friend Molly’s house, where we sipped on a little wine, enjoyed a little appetizers and opened a few naughty gifts, one of which was a box of “nothing” or as my MOH put it, for my wedding night.
(This bow has nothing to do with my gifts—I requested it for my Halloween costume where I’ll dress as Lady Gaga)
Mrs. Elephant, Dallas, TXAge and Occupation: 27, Financial Operations AnalystFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, IT Student/Store ManagerEngagement Date: March 29, 2009Wedding Date: April 2011Venue: The Tribute Golf ClubAbout Me: I'm a Philly native creating roots deep in the heart of Texas. I might be a little obsessed capturing those Kodak moments of anything and everything (mainly on vacations). I've become more of a gamer thanks to Mr. Elephant, who I met online and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with. We are planning a wedding based on our favorite colors, blue and green, with a travel theme for 150 of our closest friends and family. Hopefully our long (2-year) engagement won't kill me!
Hey there, Hive, or as they say on the campus of my Alma mater, “Howdy!” Any other Aggies out there? I know you are, Miss Cardigan
I don’t think words can express how incredibly excited I am to be the newest Bee blogger! I was in the middle of five work conference calls on a Friday (who schedules meetings on Fridays?!?!) when I checked my iPhone and saw the welcome e-mail from Mrs. Penguin. I seriously jumped around our apartment (Yes, you read that right. I lucked into a job where I can often work from home.) for 15 minutes before beginning the calls to Mama Elephant, Mr. E, and my bridesmaids.
Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New ZealandAge and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography StudentEngagement Date: February 14, 2010Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Gardens of the WorldAbout Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.
I haven’t mentioned our flower girl yet (let’s call her M), because until a couple of weeks ago I wasn’t even sure she and her family could make it to the wedding. I met M’s mum (who we will call T) when I lived in Australia for a few years as a middle schooler. Her mum is about 8 years older than me, and gave me much needed encouragement and friendship during that time. I was lucky enough to be in Australia for M’s first year, and since then three siblings have been added to their family. Now, I’m not really a “kid” person…they kind of scare me. But T’s kids are different: I completely melt over them and love them to pieces. M is seven-years-old now, sends me frequent pictures she has drawn, and I’ve always had it in my head that I wanted her to be our flower girl.
M’s latest artwork: Me in a pink wedding dress…oh yeah, and it has my first name on it, too. Oh well.
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CAAge and Occupation: 24, English teacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacherEngagement Date: September 2008Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Parents' backyardAbout Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
We have very few vendors for our backyard wedding. We’ve got our caterer and our rental company. My mom is a florist, and my girlfriends and I are baking our dessert bar.
