I haven’t said anything in a while about how things have been with regards to the loss of Mr. O’s mom. The answer is: mostly okay. Sometimes not, but mostly okay. I guess the thing I didn’t know about, and wasn’t prepared for, was the new reality that you have to negotiate after the horrible first few days and weeks are over. The random stuff you remember, or realize she won’t be around for, or when I look at a photo and think, “FMIL Octopus was still alive then,” or the sticky and sometimes weird new family dynamics that spring up after someone’s gone. And, more immediately (and relevantly to this blog), the question that weighed on our minds a few months ago: what will the wedding be like now?
At this point, we’ve mostly figured out how we’re going to include the memory of Mr. Octo’s mom in our wedding day, and how to work through the traditions in which she’d normally be a participant.

Isn’t it everyone’s wildest dream to run down shopping aisles and say, “I want THAT, I want THAT, one of these…” without having to fish out their wallets at the checkout line? If so, why am I having such reservations about just going for it?

Today’s review comes from Ms. Library of her venue, Sunday River Grand Summit Resort in Maine!
When Mr. Library and I started looking for wedding venues, we had some pretty no-budge criteria in mind: we wanted to stick to our relatively small budget (everything had to add up to under $10,000 for the whole wedding), we wanted to show off the state of Maine in the summer, we wanted a place where out of town guests could stay very close by so no one would have to drive after the reception, and we wanted personal service that would make everyone feel welcome. Sunday River Grand Summit Resort was all of it and so much more.
When Mr. Husky’s semi-retirement first began, he would get up with me on most mornings and make a pot of coffee. Now, before you all swoon over how sweet he is, you should know that it’s because I’m no longer allowed to make coffee. Every time I try, it’s either too weak, or I put so much coffee in the filter that it overflows and clogs up the coffee maker. Regardless.

Recently, however, I’ve been spending my mornings alone and coffee-less.

“Do you really love the lamp, or are you just saying it because you saw it?”
I’ve been falling in love with everything lately. And every once and a while, I like to do a wedding-porn dump on you, hive. Here is what’s been lurking in my inspiration folder. (Oh come on, you keep one too, don’t you?)

The start of 2010 brought a lot of change for me. After asking for a divorce and starting the filing process last year, I was convinced I’d become the crazy lady surrounded by her five pets for the rest of my life (which I honestly had no problem with). I had only dated one person my entire life, and ended up marrying him. I had absolutely no dating experience and didn’t really plan on putting myself out there. I figured no one would be interested in a woman who had recently split from her husband because that is a lot of baggage (plus the fact that I have five pets is a deal breaker, I mean come on now), and honestly I didn’t really care or mind being single. That was until I hit it off with someone and realized I’d spend my life full of regret if I didn’t give the chemistry we have together a chance.
I’ve finally grown to trust my gut and knew all signs pointed to yes, but I was worried about what my friends and family would say. What kind of person starts dating someone so soon after going through a divorce?

I live in flip flops. I bring my own pair of flip flops to most weddings and leave them in the car, just in case. Heels+Dancing=pain. I’m no fun when I’m in pain. So I love going to weddings with flip flop baskets, it means more dancing and fun. The first time I saw this was at a family friend’s wedding and I thought it was the best idea ever! She actually did cute slip ons instead of flip flops, but it was amazing. The idea has stuck with me ever since. I’ve seen it at a few more weddings since then, and I’m hoping it will turn into a wedding classic. So of course, it is a must have for our wedding.

Well, hello there, hive! It’s me… Miss Hippo! I can’t begin to tell you how absolutely thrilled/shocked/nervous/excited I am to be here! I was literally in the dentist chair waiting for the novocaïne to kick in when I got the e-mail from Mrs. Penguin saying I’d be “a great addition to the Weddingbee team!” IT WAS THE BEST DENTIST VISIT EVER!!! I can’t wait to share our wedding story with you, and I hope that I can live up to the amazing bees who have come before me and blogged their way into your hearts. No pressure!
So, a little bit about the Hippos… We are Texans at heart pretending to be New Yorkers while planning a March 2011 wedding in the Lone Star State.
Me & Mr. Hippo
We practiced processing and recessing, signed our ketubah, said a few prayers and finally, the rehearsal was over, which meant only one thing: It was time for the rehearsal dinner!
I didn’t talk much about the rehearsal dinner during the planning process for a few reasons. Mostly because it was FMIL Trail Mix who handled everything, and other than choosing an invitation card as part of our invite suite, I didn’t have to do a damn thing. Which, for my over-saturated, much-addled bride-brain, was pretty much the best thing ever.
I don’t know if you remember our engagement party (you can refresh your memory here) but it was so awesome that I knew the rehearsal dinner was in good, good hands. In short, when the Trail Mix in-laws throw a party, they throw a party! Much thanks to the both of them for an incredible pre-wedding shindig!
Because about three-quarters of our guests were from out-of-town, many flying in from Miami (Mr TM’s family is from there), my Trail Mix in-laws were adamant about inviting all OOT guests to the dinner as thank-you gesture for coming so far to celebrate our wedding.
I’ll admit, when I first heard our rehearsal dinner was going to be pushing 120 guests, I was a bit concerned.
Not me, apparently. In the midst of this wedding shenanigans, I haven’t even given thought to packing for the honeymoon which is in a mere few days. No packing! From me, the girl who starts thinking of outfits 3 weeks in advance of a long weekend getaway.
“You don’t need clothes on your honeymoon! That’s the whole point!” some might say… yeah… I need clothes. Otherwise I consider it a failed vacation fashionably-speaking. Sooo…
Last night I did some impulse online shopping. Some purchases were honeymoon related and some maybe not at all. You can decide for yourself.

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ll be wearing “not-so-sexy” shapewear under my dress because it’s really the only thing that’ll hold everything in place on my wedding day. However…it’s totally not what I really want to be wearing under my dress. Especially when it comes off later that night.
Here’s what I’d rather spend my wedding night wearing:
There’s the classic bridal lingerie.
