From the moment we made an appointment to walk through the mansion to the moment we said our goodbyes, we were in love. They not only provided us with the beautiful historical mansion, but they provided us with classy, professional, friendly staff members who were there to work with us on every detail.
Mrs. Plaid, AustinAge and Occupation: 26, Pastry ChefFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Cabinetry CarpenterEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Kindred Oaks, GeorgetownAbout Me: I am a Jersey girl born and raised but have since migrated to Texas and embraced its twang and Tex-Mex. I could probably eat chips and queso every day but instead I eat popcorn. I use the word “awesome” way too much but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I am addicted to all things DIY and am planning what I call a Texas-Chic wedding. I love snuggling with my two adorable dogs and of course, my adorable fiance. I can’t wait 'til I can call him my husband some day! October 2010, here we come!
I realized just this week that my wedding is actually taking on a theme. I definitely didn’t have a clear vision when I started planning. I knew my colors—blue and yellow.
I knew I wanted classy but casual. Apart from that, I had no clue. But over the last few months I’ve started collecting inspiration and have actually completed (or at least started) several DIY projects that I’ve noticed all fall into my newfound theme.
I call it Texas chic. Texas Chic - adj. having country qualities while maintaining a sense of classiness. Does that make sense?
The lace on my dress has inspired some other lace details throughout the wedding, which will keep it classy, while elements like the Mason jars and paper flowers will keep the even relaxed, laid back, and Texan. Not to mention the delicious Tex-Mex food we plan on serving (more on that decision later).
Mrs. Lace, Pasadena, CAAge and Occupation: 29, Elementary school teacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, EngineerEngagement Date: September 6, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Orange County Performing Arts CenterAbout Me: Born and raised in Southern California, my fiance and I are marrying in Orange County. We're planning a vintage wedding with a modern twist. I am an elementary school teacher by day and a wedding planner by night. I love reading, blogging, scrapbooking, trying out new DIY projects, buying awesome finds at incredible deals and spending time with friends and family. Trying new restaurants, traveling and shopping also top my hobby list. I'm anxious to share my wedding ideas and planning with the hive!
The day after our wedding, Mr. Lace and I got up at 6 AM, got ready, went back to our place to drop off stuff and pick stuff up and headed out to the airport to catch our 10 AM flight to Florida. We left Orange County, and 2 sausage and egg McMuffins and 6 hours later, we landed in Orange County, Florida! We found the Disney Magical Express which would magically transport us over to Disney World.
Those magical sandwiches are our favorites. Unfortunately, we lacked the foresight to buy some extra food to bring on the plane. Read more…
Mrs. Hamster, New York CityAge and Occupation: 28, Finance GalFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Finance GuyEngagement Date: March 9, 2009Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Pierre HotelAbout Me: I'm an original Jersey girl living it up in the big NYC! I love baking for others, hosting brunches, and exploring NYC with my mans. Besides Mr. Hamster (of course), I'm attracted to shiny things, bold colors, snacks, matching and coordination, pork and duck fats, miniature versions of things, corny jokes and puns. We are planning a swanky Spring wedding in the heart of NYC, followed by a second reception in Singapore. From one city that never sleeps to another - I can't imagine a more exciting ride!
Last week, Mrs. Hermit Crab, Mrs. Lovebird, Mrs. Pug and I attended the Brides Magazine Blogger Happy Hour event. We had the opportunity to meet the lovely editors and staff of Brides magazine, as well as enjoy some hors d’oeuvres and yummy cocktails!
Editor-in-Chief Millie Martini Bratten first led us through a slideshow of the Brides Magazine covers through the years - it was interesting to see how fashion trends have changed over the decades!
Since the event was hosted by a publication all about weddings, the arrangements and decor were gorgeous, of course: Read more…
Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CAAge and Occupation: 24, English teacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacherEngagement Date: September 2008Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Parents' backyardAbout Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
We don’t have Etsy here. We don’t have fancy crafting stores like Michael’s, Paper Source, or even anything like a Target here.
For a country that is known for it’s efficiency, convenience, and having everything-under-the-sun (love cups anyone?), this makes it hard to do our invitations.
Invitations are the one thing that we need to do from over here, though, so we are wiggin’ about them. The way we see it, we have three options: Read more…
Mrs. Cardigan, AustinAge and Occupation: 21, Student/Soon-to-be Special Education TeacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 20, Student/Soon-to-be Accounting Systems AnalystEngagement Date: August 16, 2009Wedding Date: January 2011Venue: Vintage VillasAbout Me: I'm a native Austinite who was raised as a die-hard Aggie. Luckily, I'm a pretty persuasive girl because I managed to convince my high school boyfriend (now fiance!), Mr. Cardigan, to ditch his hardcore Longhorn ways and join me up at A&M, where we currently reside with our adorable dogs, Cullen & Ranger. We're currently planning a bright, cheery wedding with a ridiculous amount of DIY projects that I can't wait to tackle! I love crafting in any form, reading, and margaritas (I think I love them the most!). Organization is what keeps me sane and I love helping others, which is probably why I ended up as an education major. It gets a little chaotic sometimes when you're planning a wedding among all of the papers, projects, finals, and certification exams, but we're having the time of our lives and we can't wait to get started on our journey as husband and wife - and we're so excited to share our wedding with the hive!
From the beginning of our engagement, Mr. Cardigan and I have planned to keep our honeymoon a secret. The idea was, he would plan it, and I would show up and have fun—not knowing anything about it until it actually happens.
When I first blogged about this, many of you commended us for being so strong, and for holding out and not spoiling the surprise. At the time, I just smiled and thought to myself, “No big deal! I love the idea of a surprise, and so does he. This will be so easy.”
Mrs. Cola, Mountain View, CAAge and Occupation: 27, Product Communications and PromotionsFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Managing Partner and Senior DesignerEngagement Date: March 5, 2009Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CAAbout Me: I’m a Washington State native, enjoying life in Silicon Valley California with my fiancé, our three kitties and one leopard gecko. I like reading wedding blogs, Photoshopping wedding design mock ups, making lists, and planning, planning, planning! I’m a bit of an anomaly, on one side I’m a very girlie girl, I collect shoes, I lay out my outfits 4-6 weeks in advance, and I’d never leave the house without my hair curled and makeup on. But on the other side, I’m a total tomboy, I love to go camping and hiking, play drinking games (hey, I’m Irish!) and most of my closest friends are guys. My fiancé and I are planning a DIY-focused wedding with a balance between easygoing (what he wants) and chic and stylish (what I want), and are tying it all together with elements in lavender, sage, butter cream and chocolate.
And I’m going to officially start our recaps with the Thursday night before the wedding, since that’s pretty much when all the projects and prep ended and the fun pre-wedding events began.
But before we dive right in, I wanted to give you all my #1 tip now that my wedding day is over: add more time!
I really, really wish we’d added an extra hour or two to our reception length. Our 5PM ceremony, 5:20-6:20 cocktail hour (which, as you’ll find out, we didn’t get to enjoy at all), and 6:20-10PM (well, really 9:30PM, because that’s when Mr. Cola and I left) reception was SO not long enough!
It’s completely true what everyone says, your wedding day will go by in a flash.
What I didn’t hear about was why it goes by so quickly, and for me it was because all our guests wanted to talk to me. Seriously, I felt like everyone wanted a piece of me, and I was constantly pulled in a million different directions all night long. Read more…
Mrs. Thimble, NYC/PhiladelphiaAge and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job)Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie WizEngagement Date: August 22, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Pearl S. Buck HouseAbout Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.
Remember this adorablewonderfulmostperfectever Etsy find? No? That’s fair. But get ready a story of a little wedding ring with big heart, because I just took this brand new custom palladium wedding band from WroughtGold out of its safekeeping envelope for a photo shoot for hive-sharing purposes:
The day I posted about the Etsy heart wedding ring that caught my eye, I convoed Gaelen of WroughtGold for a price quote for a 3mm version, in my size, with possibly a rose gold heart instead of the black enamel on the 5mm original.
Mrs. Socks, Southern NJ/Philadelphia, PAAge and Occupation: 23, Web Developer/Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems EngineerEngagement Date: September 7, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
This past weekend, Mr. Socks and I got together with most of our bridal party and their significant others (we have three bridesmaids and three groomsmen) at our wedding venue, Ladder 15!
From left to right: Lauren, Groomsman TJ, Mr. Socks, Groomsman Jay, Jill, Chris, and Bridesmaid Jess! (We missed you BM Lea, GM Matt, Sister Socks and BIL Socks!)

I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
After a night walking all over the city, the Starfish Girls planned a relaxing day. We slept in and didn’t have anything scheduled until 2:00, which I learned would be an afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton.
I love tea! But, I loved this tea even more because it wasn’t your traditional afternoon tea, instead it was a special tea, which had cupcakes instead of the traditional fare. Each of us had a cupcake flight with five different flavors including: Read more…

I’m not actually referring to beauty and people, but it’s true of those things, too. I’m talking about what to wear under your wedding dress.
Girls, when you purchased your dress, did you think about undergarments first? I sure as heck didn’t. And let me tell you, it has been a difficult search. Here are some pictures of my dress so that you will understand my difficulty.

Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
Mr. Guinea Pig and I saw each other before the ceremony, and I’m so glad we chose to do that because it felt like we hardly had any time for photos after the ceremony. Before I saw Mr. GP though, I took a little spin in the spotlight myself! To calm my nerves about having the camera turned on me, I acted like a goofball, then laughed at myself.
(How nice of our bridal suite to be arranged in coordinating colors!)

We are planning an intimate, all white with hints of black, vintage inspired wedding on the old sugar aqueducts of Jamaica, with 30 of our closest friends and family flying in to witness the occasion. We are not traditional by any means and will be doing things very differently. :)
Every wedding that I have ever been too in my state of Delaware have cost $25k+. So, the only knowledge that I had of weddings was those that I had already been to.
When we decided on a destination wedding, we figured it would be cheaper and still give us the wow factor we wanted. We just pick the resort, pick the package and bada bing, were married!
Boy was I wrong!
We chose a resort that was all inclusive for our guests and chose a wedding package the resort offered. We figured everything was included in the package and that’s all the money we needed. Read more…
