Mrs. Hot Wings, Chicago/San Diego Age and Occupation: 28, Professor Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Instructor Engagement Date: December 20, 2008 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Ocean View Villas/Jasmine Seafood Restaurant About Me: I am a psychology grad student living in Chicago and planning my wedding to a fellow psych grad student. I am a Sunny So-Cal bred gal who trudged across the country to follow her love of psychology and ended up finding a partner in the process. I am overly passionate about anything I involve myself with. I am an activist, a foodie, a reality TV watching junkie, an over-analyzer, a photography obsesser, and am utterly cheesy to the core. This is a story of what happens when a boy and a girl meet, fall in love over academic dorkiness, and a shared love for life. We (mostly I) are planning our semi-destination wedding in my hometown of San Diego. We are excited to bring our families and friends together from across our lifespans to celebrate our future in a grand 400+ person culturally blended affair!

Dress Fitting Take 2

August 16th, 2010 @ 2:55 pm by Mrs. Hot Wings

Dress Fitting Take 2 : wedding san diego wedding dress 16

Thanks for all your kind words after my first fitting. I felt a ton better after my second fitting. Just putting the dress on again felt better. The new bra made such a difference. Without the bustier, my seamstress instantly wanted to take it in at the waist. Can you say, “happy Hot Wings?” I think the shape of the dress is really much more flattering now. If you look closely at the pictures below, you can see that she pinned the sides of the skirt and the back of the dress at the waistline. YAY!

Engagement Teaser!

August 16th, 2010 @ 2:18 pm by Mrs. Socks

On Friday afternoon, as I was driving to Heritage Station Winery where we were going to take our engagement photos, it was raining. The whole way there.

I contemplated canceling or pushing the session back, but kept on driving with the hope the little rain cloud wouldn’t follow.

Stylin’ and Profilin’

August 16th, 2010 @ 1:56 pm by Mrs. Plaid

Hair and makeup! Who doesn’t love gettin’ all prettified? Especially when you get to follow it up with putting on a pretty white dress too!

Let’s start with my hair inspiration. I want a retro look. My dress channels a bit of the 1940s, so I want that to carry through with my ’do.

I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.

The Great Bra Search

August 16th, 2010 @ 1:32 pm by Mrs. Earrings

*WARNING to Mr E and all sensitive relatives of mine (or his): Please refrain from reading the following post. You know you will regret it if you do. :)

So… I bought this pretty strapless ivory torsolette to wear under my dress a few months ago. I just figured because the dress is strapless and the torsolette is strapless that they would work together. Wrong. When I finally got to try them both on at the same time (the hazard of living all over is that things aren’t always in the same place when you want them to be), I discovered that my dress is a bit lower in the back than I expected, allowing the not-so-attractive strap (is that what you call it when it is on a torsolette?) to show. It was not exactly what I was going for. Newbie mistake.

I went back to the drawing board to find a strapless bra to go under my dress. The requirements:

I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. Buck House About Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.

Blank Slate: Mix It Up Fancy

August 16th, 2010 @ 12:08 pm by Mrs. Thimble

This is the Blank Slate series reprise. Getting into details—we’ve covered tables, ceilings and walls of ye olde big white tent. Now let’s cover what’s going on our tables! Less a lesson in how to dress this blank slate, more a recap of an ongoing project my parents have been working on.

Mixed up fancy old china, collected from yard sales, barn sales and thrift stores:

Today It’s About HOPE

August 16th, 2010 @ 11:43 am by Ms. Stripes

Hey hive!

So by now you may have heard that on August 4th Federal Court Judge Vaughn Walker found the passage of Prop 8 here in California unconstitutional.

And on Thursday he denied a stay of his order while the case goes to the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. So all legal jargon aside, gay marriages will resume again in California on August 18th at 5PM, so long as the Ninth Circuit doesn’t issue its own “emergency” stay.

Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you’ve been expecting a celebratory post from me, and if not, well I definitely felt like I should be writing one.

But here’s the thing: I just don’t have the words yet. This is too big and too close to my heart and too close to our wedding and just too tenuous to celebrate quite yet.

Veil Love

August 16th, 2010 @ 11:20 am by Mrs. Starfish

I was so indecisive about my dress in the beginning, but once I put on a veil, I felt like a bride. I felt classic and romantic and knew I needed to wear one on the wedding day. I tried on a few kinds, but nothing felt as special as the cathedral length styles.

I don’t think any other veil compares when it comes to a Rhode Island coastal wedding. I love photos of veils blowing in the ocean breeze. It looks so magical and romantic.

Sattui Winery About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

Cohabitation Styles : wedding napa relationships Living living-

I have to admit, Mr. Barrettes is not the first boyfriend I’ve lived with. (Although to be fair, I told him I would not move in with “boyfriends” any longer. He took the hint.) I lived with 2 previous boyfriends. Now before you gasp in horror please consider that I am 29 years old; it might be scary if I was only 20.

Cohabitating with men is definitely a learned skill and I cannot be happier that I have nestled into my shared-living style before marriage.

My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).

Miss Candy Corn's Picture
Miss Candy Corn, Philadelphia Age and Occupation: 27, Freelance Writer, Photographer and Illustrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Front End Web Developer Blogging Since: May 6, 2008 Engagement Date: November 10, 2011 Wedding Date: September 2012 Venue: Our backyard! About Me: I’m a 27-year-old photographer, writer and illustrator who enjoys shooting weddings, catching typos in magazines, geeking out with Google Reader, watching Wonder Years marathons with my fiancé, and hanging out with our menagerie of pets. I’m an encore bride planning an intimate, offbeat backyard wedding with my fiancé (known around these parts as “The Ginger”), as we explore our adventures of homeownership.
About Miss Candy Corn

Oh my goodness, how I have missed the hive. I am officially divorced and have made the switch back to my maiden name. When I started my divorce research, I was incredibly confused and overwhelmed by the entire process. I didn’t have the funds for a proper lawyer, so I knew I’d have to research and fill out my own forms. My knowledge of divorce consisted of what I had seen during my sick days in high school when I would shamelessly slurp Lipton soup while watching Divorce Court. No one in my family or circle of friends had gone through a divorce, so I turned to Weddingbee for advice.

I was eventually sent a link to the website for Philadelphia’s law library, where I discovered a self help, no-fault divorce manual. I studied all 158 pages of the PDF obsessively and made my first trip to the county clerk’s office in the beginning of the year, where I was surrounded by an interesting group of locals. For example, the father who was seeking custody of his child and scratched his beard while trying to remember his “baby mama’s” last name (seriously, he called her his “baby mama”). These were the people who would often turn to me for advice when I was waiting for my number to be called. People who were desperate for a divorce but couldn’t figure out the difference between defendant and plaintiff and would leave the office, hopelessly mumbling obscenities to the staff.
