Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, IN
Age and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firm
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Indiana Memorial Union
About Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.

My parents walked me down the aisle, in what was certainly a blur for me. Our officiant, the Rev. Lynn James, started with a simple remembrance of those in our lives that have passed and then read our two readings: Song of Solomon 8:6-7 and an excerpt from Goodridge vs. Department of Public Health.

I die. I die! Cake bunting? Brilliant!

Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand
Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student
Engagement Date: February 14, 2010
Wedding Date: January 2011
Venue: Gardens of the World
About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.

Kiwi brides will recognize the guys in the above pic. Meet New Zealand’s pride and joy: our All Blacks rugby team, one of the most recognized symbols of our country. In my family supporting these guys is deadly serious. We are so passionate about the All Blacks that we would go through hell and high water to watch their games (the one and only reason we had satellite TV in Indonesia). Once we were so loud in expressing our enthusiasm that a concerned neighbour dropped by, thinking that there was a domestic dispute at our house. Nope. The All Blacks were just thrashing the South African Springboks silly. Very satisfying.
What has this got to do with our wedding and marriage?

Mrs. French Fries, Milwaukee
Age and Occupation: 27, Paralegal
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 35, Investments Advisor
Engagement Date: September 20, 2008
Wedding Date: June 2010
Venue: Ceremony: Catholic Church, Reception: Hotel Ballroom
About Me: I'm a Midwestern girl who longs to live in a warmer climate (my feet would be happy in flip flops any day!). I love travel, impromptu napping, grilled cheese sandwiches, my iPhone, singing with reckless abandon in my car, and Mr. French Fries.
After our rehearsal, Mr. French Fries and I were ready to eat. We had opted to have our rehearsal dinner at the same restaurant that Mr. FF had taken me to for our second date, partly because it was sentimental, partly because it was affordable, and mostly because it has amazing food!
We had selected a buffet of pizza, pasta, salad and garlic bread for our guests. Mr. FF and I are obsessed with Italian food, so it was a natural choice for us. The restaurant had a party room for private parties, and they didn’t charge us to use the room. Score! Our wedding party assembled and we set to work handing out bridal party gifts. What did we select? I’m glad you asked! Almost all of our bridal party gifts were purchased off of Etsy. (Seriously…what would I do without Etsy?)
The guys got personalized pilsner glasses with mustaches and their names etched into them from Etsy seller JackGlass. They were a hit, and the quality was top-notch. As you can see, our usher C really enjoyed them…

Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CA
Age and Occupation: 29, Dancer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building Contractor
Engagement Date: November 16, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: V. Sattui Winery
About Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!

OH-EM-JEE. I don’t even want to think about catering for at least two more days. I’m going to have to promise my firstborn child to Angelina Jolie in order to actually get what I want. Why does five hours of hot hors d’oeuvres cost over $xx,xxx? It absolutely makes zero sense to me, and my head is pounding.

Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NY
Age and Occupation: 25, Research Technician
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the Law
Engagement Date: June 15, 2009
Wedding Date: September 2010
Venue: Heron Hill Winery
About Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
This past weekend I had my first hair trial with stylist Zhallena, and it was awesome! I found her via a Craigslist post I had set up searching for an affordable stylist in the area. (With budget cuts looming, I didn’t want to spend tons of money for a one day ‘do.)

Mrs. Plaid, Austin
Age and Occupation: 26, Pastry Chef
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Cabinetry Carpenter
Engagement Date: August 8, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: Kindred Oaks, Georgetown
About Me: I am a Jersey girl born and raised but have since migrated to Texas and embraced its twang and Tex-Mex. I could probably eat chips and queso every day but instead I eat popcorn. I use the word “awesome” way too much but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I am addicted to all things DIY and am planning what I call a Texas-Chic wedding. I love snuggling with my two adorable dogs and of course, my adorable fiance. I can’t wait 'til I can call him my husband some day! October 2010, here we come!
Everyone’s seen it…almost every movie involving a bachelor party also involves a stripper. But honestly, how many real life bachelor parties do you know of that involve strippers? I can’t think of any.
That leads to the question: How many bachelors actually want a stripper at their bachelor parties? I know Mr. Plaid doesn’t. And he’s not just saying that. Most of my other guy friends feel the same way. They’d rather spend their “last free night as a single man” hanging out with their buddies, drinking, gaming, and shooting the shit. They definitely don’t want to spend it getting lap dances.
That’s not to say that there aren’t guys out there that would very much enjoy a lap dance or ten at their bachelor parties. I guess I just don’t understand it. What’s the point? What’s the thrill? I’m just at a loss.

Mrs. Starfish, Boston/Newport
Age and Occupation: 25, Operations Assistant
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Sales
Engagement Date: October 8, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: The Atlantic Beach Club
About Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
After a few invite posts with no photos, I’m ready to reveal the Starfish invites!
Since we went with a super simple design on the invitation suite, I wanted to add a fun embellishment. I’ve seen twine used on a few other bees’ invites and knew it would be the perfect finishing touch.

I wish I didn’t have to blur anything out, because the invite looks pretty blah here, but we used a calligraphy font for our names to make them stand out a bit.

Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CA
Age and Occupation: 24, English teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacher
Engagement Date: September 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: Parents' backyard
About Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
Tents are dope. They create a certain ambiance that can really focus the feel of a reception. They come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and there are so many things that can be done with them. I’ve got mad respect for anyone that can take the time to get creative and decorate the space a tent provides.

Mrs. Dolphin, Gainesville, FL
Age and Occupation: 24, Graduate Architecture Student
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Interactive Interface Developer
Engagement Date: February 14, 2008
Wedding Date: May 2010
Venue: Plantation Bay Country Club
About Me: I’m currently a Graduate Student at the University of Florida studying Architecture. I enjoy playing Scrabble with my Fiance, rooting for the Florida Gators, making any drink that involves a blender, cleaning (yes... I’m crazy), design... GOOD design that is, the new Pepsi with natural sugar, taking pictures, discovering new places in the U.S., and obsessing over doing (and designing) everything myself for our upcoming wedding!
Okay, so I loved EVERYTHING about our wedding. Well, just about everything except for our darn Florist. He was ’the suck.’

Poor Happy Bridesmaid had to carry such an offending bouquet.
I don’t understand how a florist can get my bride’s bouquet mostly right but completely mess up the bridesmaid bouquets. Yes, those are rogue daisy leaves left by our florist. You can see more pictures of these bouquets in my beautiful bridesmaids post.
Every time I think back to our wedding, I think about all the beautiful people and details… then I get to those dang bridesmaid bouquets and I just about want to cry.

Miss Handbag, Smyrna, DE/Jamaica
Age and Occupation: 25, Administration
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Sales
Engagement Date: Christmas Night 2008
Wedding Date: March 2011
Venue: Rosehall Resort, Montego Bay, Jamaica
About Me: I am a Type A, emotional Italian fireball, who on a weekly basis must be brought back to reality by my level headed, calm, cool and collected fiance. We are planning an intimate, all white with hints of black, vintage inspired wedding on the old sugar aqueducts of Jamaica, with 30 of our closest friends and family flying in to witness the occasion. We are not traditional by any means and will be doing things very differently. :)
There may be some confusion: We booked our trip to Jamaica last year and went in April of this year. This blog was written after our trip this year. Just to clarify.

Mrs. Thimble, NYC/Philadelphia
Age and Occupation: 26, Actress & Costume Designer (+ day job)
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Lawyer & Techie Wiz
Engagement Date: August 22, 2008
Wedding Date: October 2010
Venue: The Pearl S. Buck House
About Me: I’m an easily inspired over-thinker delighted with the process of designing, building, directing and {dare I say} co-starring in the early-autumn affair I’ve been dreaming up. I’m a sucker for trendied-up comfort foods and old family anecdotes; I have an affinity for adjectives, alliteration, eyelet and earl grey; and I live for quality time with family and friends. I never guessed I’d marry my “high school sweetheart", but when it turned out to be my funny, techie, loyal Mr. Thimble I was committed for life. We’re both mid-career transition and ready to move back to small-townish TBD, PA in a pre-wedding flurry of all-good life changes.
Hi hive!! It’s been a while… I’ve be buried in invitation assembly and worried about getting everything done in eight weeks. I’ve had a constant fireball of stress burning in the pit of my stomach all week, and wedding nightmares have been creeping into my dreams—bad ones that make sleeping ineffective because I realize my heart has been racing while the story unfolded through the night…
This was bound to happen since I was on a wedding roll. I was manic happy about the whole thing and caught up in all the fun details. But now I’m concerned that if one thing goes wrong that my whole world will come crashing down on Wedding Day. I’ve played and re-played a daydream in my head in which the florists drop bouquets off at my parents’ house and I’m so overcome by their perfection and the reality of the day that they symbolize that I’m hugging my vendors and choking back tears of joy. (Yes, actress. Dramatic.) But what if the flowers aren’t what I asked for? What if they aren’t even close??
But why do I care? 2 weeks ago I had a healthy mantra that I’ll have fun no matter what and no one will know if something is amiss but me. But the reality is, I will be pretty mad about it. No, not mad. I’ll feel betrayed because I’ve created friendships in my head with my vendors. I think they’re all super awesome!
I’m disappointed in myself for being so concerned with the cosmetic details of the wedding that if they don’t turn out like I want them to I’ll let it cast a shadow over the day.
