Mrs. Socks, Southern NJ/Philadelphia, PAAge and Occupation: 23, Web Developer/Marketing SpecialistFiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Systems EngineerEngagement Date: September 7, 2009
Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Ladder 15 RestaurantAbout Me: I am originally from the Midwest, but I love being an East Coast transplant! Mr. Socks and I are foodies and winos to the core---give us a hunk of cheese, some charcuterie and a glass of wine and we could die happy. We have two mischievous Wire Fox Terriers with completely opposite personalities but with a shared love of uprooting anything in our garden. Our backyard garden includes everything from tomatoes and peppers to a fig tree, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries! I love cooking, indie music, and spending time in our wedding city of choice---Philly!
Because I can be a bit of a control freak, I thought it would be nice if I could “stage” an example of how our engagement shoot setup would look, that way I could make changes if necessary. Are you ready to see?

Mrs. Barrettes, Tumon, Guam/Napa, CAAge and Occupation: 29, DancerFiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Licensed Building ContractorEngagement Date: November 16, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: V. Sattui WineryAbout Me: I'm an East Coast girl, living on a tiny little island in the Pacific, twirling, leaping, and shimmy-ing my way through life, and now, wedding planning! I'm equal parts nerdy and cool... okay, mostly nerdy. I love satin bows, red lipstick, black & white graphic anything, the shine of sequins and the sound of a champagne "pop". My favorite books are The Portrait of a Lady, by Henry James, and Tender is the Night, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I can also conjure a pretty good Patronus Charm. I started my appreciation for good red wine while traveling on the high seas, and it's only fitting that my passion for wine drinking led me to my Napa-bred honey. We bonded over bottles of Cabernet on my oceanfront porch and haven't looked back since. We're sealing the deal at a winery in the Napa Valley on a 'perfect ten' of a day!
Mrs. Locket, Ithaca, NYAge and Occupation: 25, Research TechnicianFiance's Age and Occupation: 28, former Banker hoping to become an Officer of the LawEngagement Date: June 15, 2009Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: Heron Hill WineryAbout Me: I am a little bit of everything all rolled into one: A girly gal with rough edges---I love to get dolled up just as much as I enjoy throwing on some sneaks to toss a ball with Mr. Locket. My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. We are a quirky, fun-loving couple residing in our college town with our two pups Maple and Molly. We love to go on hikes, visit our local dog park and to bask in the beauty of many of the local falls and gorges. We are an indecisive pair, but together we somehow manage to make up our minds (it's the easy stuff that's tricky).
Mrs. Plaid, AustinAge and Occupation: 26, Pastry ChefFiance's Age and Occupation: 34, Cabinetry CarpenterEngagement Date: August 8, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Kindred Oaks, GeorgetownAbout Me: I am a Jersey girl born and raised but have since migrated to Texas and embraced its twang and Tex-Mex. I could probably eat chips and queso every day but instead I eat popcorn. I use the word “awesome” way too much but I just can’t seem to stop myself. I am addicted to all things DIY and am planning what I call a Texas-Chic wedding. I love snuggling with my two adorable dogs and of course, my adorable fiance. I can’t wait 'til I can call him my husband some day! October 2010, here we come!
So I’m sure for most girls, the biggest decision they make during the wedding planning process is choosing the right dress or the right location. For me, it’s the cake. After all, I do decorate cakes for a living. So I ask you, why is it such a hard decision for me? I see cakes all day every day, yet I cannot decide.
So here’s what I’ve compiled so far (keep in mind none of the colors are right on these cakes; I was more attracted to the designs):
I love the nature-y, simple feel of this first cake.
Mrs. Ribbons, Washington D.C./Bloomington, INAge and Occupation: 23, Research Associate for an international development firmFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, Proposal Coordinator for contractor
Engagement Date: May 2, 2008Wedding Date: June 2010Venue: Indiana Memorial UnionAbout Me: I'm an Indiana transplant living in DC with my fiance and our pretty kitty. I enjoy the color pink, I'm obsessed with the Dior New Look and tulle, and I heart my level 80 paladin. I'm a sucker for bad TV, literary theory, and cakes of all persuasion. I also happen to be marrying the cutest closet nerd around! It's all about Bloomington for us because it's where we met -- on the college paper. If there's a theme for our small summertime wedding, it's Dior meets Dorothy Draper on a lark in Bloomington; think poofy, plus graphic prints, bold colors, and a whole lot of prettiness.
After squeezing myself into the dress, we headed outside to a well-worn pathway to the Union. Then I nonchalantly stood by an iron gate. Of course. Read more…
Mrs. Sand Dollar, HoustonAge and Occupation: 24, Graphic DesignerFiance's Age and Occupation: 22, Electrical TechnicianEngagement Date: January 8, 2010Wedding Date: September 2010Venue: MacLean ParkAbout Me: I'm a domestic diva down to the core. I heart cooking, sewing, baking, decorating and making sure we have a hand-crafted home. The best part about the wedding is I get to incorporate it all! I make sure I put my art degree to good use by screen printing, craft knife cutting, and a whole lotta graphic design. We're having a big-time party on a small-time budget, and I promise to show you a boot-scootin', barbecue-eatin', finger-lickin' good time! Mr. Sand Dollar and I spend most of our time on DIY projects or traipsing around the outdoors with our two pooches Rory and Juno. I'm looking forward to sharing our journey with all of you!
Mr. SD and I can get swanky sometimes. Here we are at the fabulous Rockwall Idol. He may look completely identical to this on our wedding day, except with black boots instead of those fugly brown ones, and a white button up.
Mrs. Glasses, Tokyo/Los Angeles, CAAge and Occupation: 24, English teacherFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, English teacherEngagement Date: September 2008Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Parents' backyardAbout Me: I’m an expat living in Tokyo. I’ve been in Japan for almost three years now, where I met my fantastic English fiance. It’s time to leave Japan, so we are planning a fun, intimate, backyard ceremony back home in the suburbs of L.A. in October. Our wedding will be a mix of my love for food, beer, my Japanese culture, and Mr. G’s Englishness. We are on a tiny budget and DIYing almost everything!
Our engagement photos are in! I’ll be putting them up in bits and pieces because there are a lot. We went to three places: Shinjuku Gyoen, Asakusa, and Shibuya. In Asakusa, we stopped off in front of the famed Sensoji temple. It’s been under renovation for a while now, so we couldn’t get any pictures in front of it, but we grabbed an omikuji!
Mrs. Star, New York CityAge and Occupation: 22, ActressFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Casting AssistantWedding Date: October 2009Venue: Ceremony: The Kraine Theatre, Reception: Midtown Loft & TerraceAbout Me: I’m a professional actress who’s always had New York City in her blood and I'm finally getting the chance to make a home in Manhattan with my fiancé, my dog, and my big dreams! I love polka dots, craft projects, Dunkin’ Donuts’ iced coffee, and anything sparkly. I’m having a blast planning our elegant/dramatic/New York City/acting-themed/largely-DIY wedding and am thrilled to be the youngest current Miss Blogger!
Hey, hive! Remember me, Mrs. Star? I’ve shared every little detail of our wedding with you, but I’ve held back a few secrets still… like this gorgeous little photo shoot we did! I’m still unsure of what to call it. A “day-after shoot”? Wellll, we did it three months after our wedding. A “trash the dress”? You all know I love my dress wayyy too much to trash it.
So anyways, we found an amazing budding photographer who was looking to expand her portfolio and I squeezed back into my dress with the help of Mr. Star to capture some more couple portraits that we hadn’t had time to get in the hustle and bustle of our wedding day (remember how I wanted pictures on the steps of the Public Library?). Take a look at what we got!
Miss Handbag, Smyrna, DE/JamaicaAge and Occupation: 25, AdministrationFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, SalesEngagement Date: Christmas Night 2008Wedding Date: March 2011Venue: Rosehall Resort, Montego Bay, JamaicaAbout Me: I am a Type A, emotional Italian fireball, who on a weekly basis must be brought back to reality by my level headed, calm, cool and collected fiance. We are planning an intimate, all white with hints of black, vintage inspired wedding on the old sugar aqueducts of Jamaica, with 30 of our closest friends and family flying in to witness the occasion. We are not traditional by any means and will be doing things very differently. :)
Mr. Handy and I aren’t too big into dancing. I am a little too conservative to be droppin’ it like it’s hot, and he wouldn’t know what rhythm was if it knocked him over. During our many years of relationship bliss, I can honestly tell you that we have never danced together, well, except for the occasional twirl in our living room. I can’t imagine my friends dancing to Flo Rida with my elder family watching. I am not sure if most people dance the way we do up here, but shall I say, its a little on the “oh my goodness—did she really just do that” side. It’s somewhat provocative and not really appropriate for a wedding. Most people tell me after a few drinks you won’t even care about the way anyone is dancing. But then my reply is, “We don’t drink either.” Boring, aren’t we?
With that said, we aren’t having a reception. Well we are, but it is more like just a dinner. After the ceremony on the aqueduct, we are heading over to… Read more…
Mrs. Husky, DenverAge and Occupation: 26, Systems AdministratorFiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid offEngagement Date: August 14, 2009Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: Rancho San CarlosAbout Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
We took a trip down south this weekend to visit the wedding property and try to get a feel for where the ceremony should be. Since this isn’t really a “wedding venue,” the ceremony location isn’t immediately obvious. Here are our top contenders:
Mrs. Penguin, Northern CaliforniaAge and Occupation: 27, Weddingbee Editor in ChiefFiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Doctor of Physical TherapyEngagement Date: January 29, 2007Wedding Date: June 7, 2008Blogging Since: September 14, 2007Venue: Winery in the Gold CountryAbout Me: I love the Spice Girls, dogs with underbites, bean burritos, making messes, high fives, avoiding showers, crossword puzzles, blogs, weddings, and blogs about weddings!
Mrs. Starfish, Boston/NewportAge and Occupation: 25, Operations AssistantFiance's Age and Occupation: 25, SalesEngagement Date: October 8, 2008Wedding Date: October 2010Venue: The Atlantic Beach ClubAbout Me: I'm a perfectionist who is a planner at heart. I don't do well with surprises. I love planning, crafting, Newport RI, family and friends, and most importantly, Mr. Starfish---all of which will be big components in our October wedding in our favorite little city by the sea.
When Mr. Starfish and I started to plan our honeymoon, we had dreams of Aruba, Jamaica, Bermuda, Bahamas, Key Largo, Montego… pretty much anywhere in the Beach Boys Kokomo song. It was a once-in-my-life dream to visit every place in that song before I die. Actually it kind of still is. We also considered Disney and Hawaii—anywhere sunny and by a beach. I dreamed of fruity drinks and relaxation.
When we realized Mr. Starfish won’t have enough vacation time, we decided to do a minimoon in Newport. The closer we get to the wedding, the more excited I get about our minimoon! I thought we’d be down there all the time planning the wedding, but we’ve only been there once this year. I really miss Newport. There are so many fun things to do. Plus, it will be really fun reliving all our favorite memories when we start our new life together. We’re looking for a mix of old favorites and new adventures.
We really don’t want to plan the whole trip, since we want to relax, but the planner in me still had to come up with fun options to consider while we are there. Read more…
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
While my friends and I were gettin’ all pretty, the boys were having their own fun afternoon. I had told Mr. Guinea Pig that our second shooter would be arriving to their room around 3:30 to take some ’getting ready’ photos before they left for the venue - later, Mr. GP would admit to me that they were all so antsy and nervous, they were pretty much completely ready and just waiting around when the photographer got there!
Still, I love looking at the photos from the guys that afternoon because of all the camaraderie. I’m also really glad we have a photo of Mr. GP putting on the tie I handmade for him, and love that Best Man J helped make sure it was juuust right.

You say cheap, but I say FRUGAL.
Like many other brides in this world I had dreamed of my wedding since I could remember. Imagine my fiance’s shock when I explained to him the reason girls run around with pillowcases tied to the back of their heads is because they want a wedding veil. My family feared that I would go nuts with our wedding because I had thought of it so much. I grew up in a very small town with a population slightly filling out the 800 mark. Although I would have loved to have had our wedding there, my personality had outgrown the style of the town since I had moved to the “big city” of Vancouver. To compromise and infuse my past into our present and future, we chose to have a low key, grassroots-level wedding with an added touch and class of a Vancouver high-class wedding. Read more…
