The 100 day challenge is well under way. At the 25 day mark, I had exercised 23 hours, with only one day of no exercise. As time is crunching down, I’ve been ramping it up more and more.
How am I staying motivated? Well, besides walking with Sky, I decided to take my routine to the next level. Awhile back, I started looking into personal trainers in my area. I found many will give you a free trial session to test it out. I had a few in mind I wanted to try, but after my first consultation, I knew I found the right fit. It’s like hiring a photographer; it’s important that you have a connection.
I started working with the trainer before the 100 day challenge, but then I knew the challenge would be going into effect and I needed to find a way to motivate myself. I’ve never liked to exercise. I get bored too easily. I used to keep fit with group sports like a few years of softball, a couple years of basketball, a couple years of soccer, a year of cheerleading, a year of hockey, a couple years of dancing, a year of volleyball…
Do you believe me now when I say I get bored easily?

We might be on a budget but we’re still having a mini-moon! We are hopping across the pond (as in the Sea of Japan) to an exotic locale with awesome food and sights.

I was reeling from a bad break-up. I was acting out, being rebellious, drinking too much and staying out too late. It was the first time I lived by myself… meaning, no man, no roommates, no dog. Just me. It was dangerous. I was dangerous. And fun. [insert smirk]
But underneath it all I was hurting, and feeling guilty. I had blindsided my boyfriend with a clean break and I felt guilty for hurting him, but mad at him for hurting me first. It was a mess and I didn’t feel like dealing with it. So I didn’t. I partied.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
Since I don’t have our professional pictures yet from the France wedding, I thought I’d regale you guys with some pictures I took from the ol’ point and shoot.
The day of the wedding, our chateau hostess Brigitte had kindly made a hair appointment for me in a local salon. By local salon, I mean the only hair salon in the town. I was prepared for some old-school hair appliances, and was actually a bit excited about it! I was picturing Chocolat… which it turned out to be a bit like it when two sweet old French ladies walked in and started gossiping… but then they saw me so the gossip turned to gawking. Before I went, I thought they would probably use the curling iron I had when I was in seventh grade. When I sat down, the nice hairdresser lady started wetting my hair and putting it in velcro curlers. I thought hmm, this will be interesting.
After she tightly curled all of my hair into multicolor curlers, she put a hair net over my head and sat me down under this Paramount hair dryer vent thingamajig. I thought, well, there’s no AC, and they’re having a heat wave, but surely this can’t take long. She looked at me and said, “One hour.”

Two weeks to go. There’s no time for a real post right now, as Mr. Veggie flew in to the US two days ago and I am on my way up to see him for the first time since mid-June. (Pucker up Veg!, I’m-a-comin’.) Then we have a wedding to go to, a conference to present at, family to visit, a driver’s license to renew, a bank account to open, oh yeah, and a few minor details to hammer out before the big day. Marriage license? Yeah, that one should probably get moved up to the top of the list.
So, sorry for the lack of witty and insightful commentary, but the least I could do is give you a sneak peek at some projects I’ve been working on this week.
Vegetable Escort Cards made from recycled craft paper cardstock and fabric scraps from Veggie sister Kale’s quilting room.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Mr. SD and me! Our Waco lease ran out, which meant it was time for me to hustle on down to the house we’ll be living in once he graduates. We’ve spent the last six months spending weekends and vacations fixing up his grandma’s house. And I would say the work has been worth it! It was our first big project as a couple, and we’ve come to head on a few issues about how we work together and what processes we use. Our work styles are completely different. But we’ve learned to work together, and look how far we’ve come!
Before
Last week, I had my final appointment with our florist who put together a table sample. I’m a dummy when it comes to things like decor and flowers. I can totally appreciate nice design but I can’t coordinate things very well. This is why I leave things to the professionals—for example, the centerpieces.
The Vision & The Reality
“Garden arrangement, pinks, whites, purples, candles” was my vision, and here is the reality:

We have big plans today—wedding license here we come!—and we seem, in general, to be on a wedding-roll! Which is not a bread roll made of weddings, just in case that was the image that came to mind.
I have to wait until people actually receive their invitations to show you the whole shebang, but here is a preview for you/picture of how we spent much of our mini-vacation:

In a cabin in the woods, surrounded by peace and serenity… addressing invitations.
Calling all cute adorable shoes in the perfect shade of blue! Where are you?
Since before I even had a ring on my finger I’d been searching for the perfect wedding shoe. My friend L (also my co-MOH) got married last year and rocked some awesome red shoes under her wedding dress. I vowed right then and there that when I got married I would have some fabulous colored shoes on under my dress, too.
And so the hunt began. I searched everywhere - DSW, Zappos, Payless, David’s Bridal, several department stores and everywhere else I could think to type into my Google search engine. I found a lot of tempting shoes like these:
I’m thrilled to introduce our newest generation of bees—Safari Animals! Check out that little heart the prairie dog is carrying. Adorable!

Which icon is your fave?
As my friends were getting dressed, it was finally my turn to get ready. I started feeling a little bit nervous at this point! As I mentioned in my last post, for most of the morning/early afternoon I was sort of like, “Oh this is fun, hanging out with my friends,” but once my hair got set into rollers, it sank in that today was the day!
(I think this is a good look for me*)
I’ve been super busy with work, but I’ve still got weddings on the brain, especially our Tokyo reception! I won’t be organizing it because my Japanese is rubbish, but I’ve seen my fair share of receptions since I started living here in 2007; so I think I know how it’ll go down. First of all, there is a lot of drinking.

A couple weeks ago, before Prop 8 was overturned, a new colleague who is in a long term committed same-sex partnership asked me how I felt about getting married in California where the institution of civil marriage discriminates against people based on their sexual orientation. At first, I felt caught off guard. She knows I’m a supporter and fighter for equal rights on many fronts. However, I didn’t want to get defensive. She had a right to ask me. Luckily, I had thought about this before and knew how I felt about the issue. I’ve actually been asked this twice since getting engaged.
Let me just make this clear. I didn’t just sit around and attempt to come up with a “correct” answer. I thought about this as a matter of principle. I am the type of person who listens to song lyrics, and if/when I decide the song is discriminatory or wrong in some way, I essentially boycott it. I don’t care if it’s got a great beat and is all the rage at the clubs. A song that trivializes sexual abuse for example is not something I want to dance to. So I had to come to decide for myself if marriage was right for me, at a time when many couples say that they are boycotting the institution of marriage until it is legal for ALL individuals to do so.
