Mrs. Pretzel's Picture
Mrs. Pretzel, Seattle Age and Occupation: 32 Learning, Training, and Development Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28 Manufacturing Engineer Engagement Date: September 2, 2009 Wedding Date: July 2010 Venue: Catholic Church & The Engine Room at Georgetown Studios About Me: I’m just a thirty-something girl who never dreamed of weddings, poofy dresses, or ritzy receptions. I am a rabid knitter, except recently, wedding projects have replaced my yarn and needles. I’ve been fiercely independent since the age of 2 and 30 years later I think my family and friends had given up on me settling down and getting married. Ironically, I had to go all the way to Seattle to find a boy from Purdue. We fell in love over Seattle Beers and cooking together. I love NASCAR, he loves Legos. I can talk like a Muppet and he can fit a whole McDonald’s cheeseburger in his mouth. We are a two reception couple, currently planning a brewery inspired bash.

Playing Housewife Pt 2: Game Time

August 3rd, 2010 @ 1:11 pm by Mrs. Pretzel

Bridesmaid H and Momma P made sure our bellies were full of brunch ‘n’ punch before they busted out the shower games. I have to admit, my experience with shower games is pretty limited. For some reason I am usually unable to attend the bridal shower and I just send a gift with my well wishes. My Fort Wayne showers featured pen and paper games focused on getting to know me better… but the first game Bridesmaid H introduced involved another kind of paper.

Mrs. Earrings, Fresno, CA/ Nelson, New Zealand Age and Occupation: 20, Student, Wannabe Writer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 19, Photography Student Engagement Date: February 14, 2010 Wedding Date: January 2011 Venue: Gardens of the World About Me: I'm a girl from down under who grew up in Indonesia and I'm marrying a California boy. I'm addicted to all things sweet, have never met a chocolate silk pie than can get the better of me, and have dreams of one day being a fulltime novelist. I go weak in the knees for lace, tea cups, and a beautifully crafted sentence. When I get excited about something (whether it is historical linguistics or the Beatles) I tend to go overboard in research, and planning this wedding is no different. Mr. Earrings is my high school sweetheart, my best friend, and somehow we combine all our quirks into one big happy mess.

Roses for Their Hair

August 3rd, 2010 @ 12:23 pm by Mrs. Earrings

I was bored. So, I made some hair accessories for my bridesmaids!

Roses for Their Hair : wedding accessories crafts diy new zealand Importe Importe

I started making bits and bobs with du-kit (polymer clay) a few years ago, probably because I never grew out of my mud pie stage. One of my favourite things to do with it is make roses, so when I was playing around a bit with the clay the other day the thought crossed my mind: ‘Hey… we’re having roses in our wedding… Hey I wonder if these roses would look good stuck in the BMs’ hair…’ *drags compliant sister BM over and sticks some in her hair* ‘Hey… they do look good!’

Mrs. Guinea Pig's Picture
Mrs. Guinea Pig, Baltimore, MD Age and Occupation: 26, PhD student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 26, Operations Director at a non-profit Engagement Date: December 25, 2008 Wedding Date: May 2010 Venue: The Chesapeake Bay Beach Club About Me: I'm a tomboy science nerd whose girly side has made a startling appearance thanks to wedding planning! I love to bake, knit and sew but I also ride a motorcycle (that Mr. Guinea Pig wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole). We live with our three crazy cats and love to read, travel, watch movies, and do home improvement projects together! My parents/family are Canadian but I'm definitely American, although I've lived in 5 different countries, 6 different states, and speak Russian fluently. Mr. GP and I met online (did I mention I'm a scientist?) and had a whirlwind romance - now we can't wait to get married & celebrate with all our friends and family in a blue and yellow waterfront affair!
About Mrs. Guinea Pig

The day before our wedding (Friday), the Guinea Pigs, our families, and our many (many) carloads of stuff trucked it over to Kent Island to drop off all the decorations and Out of Town Bags, check into the hotels, and get ready to rehearse!

Many people arrived around lunchtime, so I headed to a nearby restaurant and had lunch with my lovely ladies, while Mr. GP went to a different restaurant to hang with the groomsmen. It was great to have this relaxed time where we could catch up with our friends before having to do anything wedding-related. At 4 PM, we all arrived at the venue to figure out exactly how this whole getting married thing works.

Everyone mingled while Mr. Guinea Pig and I went over the order of events with our venue’s coordinator, Teresa (who was great, and the reason I never even considered a DOC).

Mrs. Veggie, Raglan, New Zealand/Scranton, PA Age and Occupation: 27, Director of Small Non-Profit Fiance's Age and Occupation: 42, PhD Student & Farmer Engagement Date: June 13, 2009 Wedding Date: August 2010 Venue: Indian Head Camp, Honesdale Pennsylvania About Me: I am a tree-huggin' farmer turned enthusiastic wedding-planner. I live in a house truck and wear flip-flops more often than shoes. In my old life I was a high school Spanish teacher in love with a crazy guy who lived off-the grid on a farm in New Hampshire. But, we decided to mix things up a bit, quit our jobs and move to New Zealand. My southern hemisphere lifestyle involves growing veggies, teaching, running our small non-profit, and surfing. I love laughing, singing, playing, and the inspirational Mr. Veggie (of course!). For our wedding, I am committed to throwing a killer party that celebrates our values without breaking the bank. Look forward to an eco-thrifty summer-campy weekend-long extravaganza.

I Get by with a Little Help from My…

August 3rd, 2010 @ 11:00 am by Mrs. Veggie

… newly-found-internet-acquaintances. That’s such a catchy tune.

Last week I was the recipient of some major bee love.

There once was a girl so nice that she volunteered to help with cutting and gluing, the two most evil most dreaded wedding crafting jobs. Who is this saint? This happy little crafting elf? This magical crafting fairy-godmother? Why she’s EAQ219 (aka Em), Weddingbee aficionado. We met at the D.C. bee meet up two weeks ago and she volunteered to help me finish up some projects. You know I wasn’t going to let an opportunity like that slip by. So, I invited her over for an afternoon crafting session while my nieces were supposed to be napping.

My First DIY: For the Ladies

August 3rd, 2010 @ 10:08 am by Mrs. Plaid

From the beginning, I’ve always wanted to make my own invitations, Save the Dates, everything. I figured I’d start small and make some “Will you be my Bridesmaid” cards. I think they turned out pretty cute. Here’s how I did it:

I went to Archiver’s and picked out some pre-made cards. I got dark blue circles, white flower shaped circles and white envelopes. I also picked out a pretty flower stamp and some red ink.

Mrs. Husky, Denver Age and Occupation: 26, Systems Administrator Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Mechanical Engineer, recently laid off Engagement Date: August 14, 2009 Wedding Date: October 2010 Venue: Rancho San Carlos About Me: I am planning a quirky-crafty wedding with my recently out-of-work fiancé for a (fingers crossed!) warm October afternoon. We are two self-professed nerds with an affinity for all things outdoors---be it rain, snow or shine. Recently relocated from the drizzly Northwest, we're enjoying the many sun-soaked days in the mile high city. Our day will be filled with both of our large families and friends, a self-served Cajun feast, and a Zydeco-style jazz band rocking beneath the beams of a historic red barn.
About Mrs. Husky

Mr. Husky and I are working very hard to throw a helluva party without being wasteful. One way that we are doing this is by offering our guests a choice of what favor(s) they take home with them.

Inspired by the many adorable candy buffet bars, we too will set out jars full of goodies. But instead of various types of delectable sweets, ours will be filled with a variety of items that are meaningful to us both as individuals and as a couple. First up? I present to you Stumptown Coffee:

My love for crafting and creating is quite apparent and I've been referred to as a Wonder Woman/Martha Stewart/Stepford Wife hybrid (yup, I'll take that as a compliment). I adore sewing, photography, sculpture, good eats (mmm tapas), baking, snugging and oh, pretty much everything in between (there's not much I dislike). I am super excited to be planning our vineyard wedding and couldn't be happier to be marrying Mr. Locket. Invitation Printing Play

August 3rd, 2010 @ 8:41 am by Mrs. Locket

June was a busy month on the DIY front. Early on I spent a lot of time sewing flowers for my bouquet, but with time slipping away I really needed to work on my invitation design. I know…I know…it was June and nearing the three-month mark (BAD BRIDE!!), and I needed to get those puppies out ASAP! But I had been busy and hadn’t quite figured out how I wanted the final product to look yet. (Plus, I had a plan involving sweatshop-like conditions with family and friends helping me out on an upcoming weekend.)

I initially played with black ink on ivory card stock with a purple backing and created this:

Get Away Car Giddiness

August 3rd, 2010 @ 8:12 am by Mrs. Pin Cushion

Photos of wedding get-away cars make my heart flutter (which you’d think, as a nurse, might concern me a bit…). There is just something about objects tied to the back of a car that screams “wedding” (which now that it’s written down, sounds ridiculous [as ridiculous as pine trees in your living room for Christmas and eggs to celebrate Easter, I guess]).

Silly or not, I love the idea of a get-away car.

I Don’t Care About Shoes

August 2nd, 2010 @ 6:33 pm by Mrs. Knitting

I really don’t. I probably own about 10 pairs of shoes and that includes a few pairs of heels I’ve never actually worn. I can pretty much always be found wearing a very basic pair of black flats that I wear until they are worn out (read: completely destroyed), and then I move onto the next pair. Basically, it comes down to this: if I had an extra $100 to spend on something fun, I’d never spend it on shoes.

As a result, wedding shoes haven’t been too high on my list of priorities. There has been no scouring stores or searching on every website I can think of. I also tend to skip every post on all of my favourite wedding websites about shoes. While I’ve meticulously researched pretty much every other detail about our wedding, I just can’t get excited about shoes.

So, how does a girl who doesn’t care about shoes find her some wedding shoes? Here’s how it went down.

I was shopping with one of my BMs a few weeks ago and I found a pretty pair of shoes on a nice sale. However, I decided that I was too poor to be buying wedding shoes at the moment. Fast forward to last Sunday, when I happened by that store again (Town Shoes on Bloor St.) and remembered the shoes. At that point I’d gotten my tax refund and wasn’t feeling so poor, so I bought the shoes. Done!

Here they are:
